Chapter 30 - Mourning Hour

The sky had darkened as hours passed.

There was no thunder, no rain, and no heavy winds, only a darkness that loomed over the sky.

However, the cries from the vampires all across the city of Altanisar had made up for the lack of noise.

No matter which side they stood on, every vampire looked up to Jenk.

Cassiel was still laying locked in a room, unconscious and worn out from the fighting, along with the heavy blow he took from Rael.

Albus, however, was awake.

He was sitting at the edge of his bed, contemplating ever so heavily.

Reluctantly, he stands up, getting himself dressed in his usual black attire as he opens the door just as Kislev was about to knock.

"What." Albus speaks confidently, hiding his sorrow.

"I-We, thought it'd be good if you came out with us man." Kislev responds, putting his hand on Albus' shoulder.

Albus glances over at the hand, before looking back at Kislev.

"Alright..." Albus responds back, not questioning as he follows Kislev out the room.

…..

Taking a stroll down an alley, Kislev walks into a bar, surprising Albus, as he believed Kislev to not be someone that would drink.

"What..." Albus starts to say, before realizing Kislev is already inside, unable to hear him.

Walking into the bar, he looks around the compactly filled bar before seeing Kislev sitting down at a table alongside Elysia and a person wearing a cloak over their head.

Reaching the table, he takes a seat, before looking at the new person.

"Who-"

"I'm a noble, my name is Ophelia Umbriel, the last of my family..." It was the voice of a woman.

Taking her cloak off, she reveals her pure red eyes, proving her nobility.

She has long golden yellow hair that droops behind her shoulders, wearing an almost completely white outfit with hints of gold, it covered her entire body since she was wearing gloves to hide her hands while the collar of her outfit hides her neck.

"And I'd prefer to not sit next to some commoner nobody." She scoffs, looking Albus up and down.

Albus responds by sighing, before shortly after standing up.

"No!" Elysia blurts out.

"Ahem... I mean no, Albus, sit down, please." Elysia says, composing herself.

Albus stays standing for a bit, staring at the silent three for a second, before deciding to sit back down, making Ophelia sigh in discomfort.

"So who is she, why's she here and where did she come from." Albus questions, looking at both Elysia and Kislev.

"If you have questions you can ask m-"

Before Ophelia can finish, Albus turns and glares at her.

"Silence." Albus says, shutting Ophelia up immediately.

"Kislev, answer, please." Albus continues, staring at Kislev.

Kislev stares at Albus for a moment, shocked with the confidence he has to tell a noble to shut up.

"She... was someone whom Jenk raised for a few short years, and you know, word seems to travel fast here on Rampiel... so she's here now, to pay respects."

"I see..." Albus responds, glancing over at Ophelia.

"Well then, let's drink the night away, for Jenk." Elysia chimes in happily.

"Right, for Jenk." Albus says, looking down.

…..

…..

Back in the city castle, Cassiel would finally wake up.

The room was pitch black, as was the outside sky.

Sitting up straight, his eyes would quickly adjust to the darkness, to see that his room was quite large, larger than the room he had in Kotor.

Checking his body, Cassiel found he had no wounds left, which is what he had expected.

With vampires needing blood as their main source of strength, every aspect of their body would grow in regards to the amount they take, including the regeneration of their bodies, some of the strongest being able to even regenerate their own limbs.

After a quick glance around his room, Cassiel closed his eyes, remembering every aspect of his battles.

Dodging the stab from Belh Aamon, Cassiel proceeded to spin kick him in the head as he was falling from the sky, resulting in Belh's head flying off.

Next, Cassiel remembers borrowing and crushing Mathall's shield, the shield wielding warrior from the Aurelius family, to then use it to cleave his head clean off.

After both the frontliners were down, he grabbed a rock from off the ground, throwing it straight through Eurn, the mage from the Havencrest family, putting a hole clean through her chest, killing her instantly.

"Good on me." Cassiel mumbles to himself, smirking with his eyes still closed.

As he had finished remembering everything, how he basked in the blood of his enemies for a couple seconds, he would keep replaying the battle in his head, over and over and over again, hammering it into the back of his mind, thinking of what he could have done to be faster, to cut time down in between the kills.

Cassiel blames himself for Jenk's death.

He believes he should've been faster, better.

He believes if he was there to help Jenk, even if only for a moment's distraction, Jenk would still be alive.

He believes Rael would be dead, and the war would be over, vampires would proceed to win with the human's trump card out of the picture.

What he also believes, however, is that the fight was fair, that Jenk lost to Rael in an honorable duel.

Not one vampire has ever known about the existence of Zuriel, not even his father had known, not in time, at least.
