Chapter 227 - 2.2

"Ankur," she breathed. Just his name. Like a request.

He kissed down her stomach in a slow line, pressing his mouth to her skin with deliberate care, and when he reached her shorts, he hooked his thumbs into the waistband and paused. Met her eyes.

She nodded again.

He pulled her shorts down, and her underwear with them, slow and steady, revealing her inch by inch.

Ankur's breath left him.

He had imagined this, abstractly, the way you imagine things you've never had access to. But the imagination had nothing on the reality of Priya lying in front of him, completely bare, her pussy soft and slightly flushed in the low light, her hair trimmed but grown out, natural, like someone who hadn't been expecting any of this when she packed for the trip. It made her feel more real to him, not less. She was trembling faintly. She didn't stop him.

He felt his heart going very loud. Awe, more than anything. He was being trusted with something.

He gently pressed her thighs apart and positioned himself between them. Watched her breathe for a moment, the rise and fall of her chest, the way she was biting her lip.

Then he lowered his mouth to her.

His tongue moved slowly at first, uncertain, learning her, broad flat strokes along her folds and then up to her clit, circling it with careful attention. She gasped sharply, and her hips lifted instinctively.

He took the encouragement and built on it. His tongue firmer, the pressure more deliberate, finding the rhythm that made her grab for his hair. She sucked in air and held it. He sucked at her clit gently and then flicked his tongue in short pulses,s and she pressed his face harder into her and breathed, don't stop, please.

He didn't.

He worked a finger inside her slowly, and then a second, curling them forward as he moved, his mouth still at her clit. Her legs began to shake. Her moans got less controlled, more erratic, the sound of someone losing the thread of composure.

Then she shifted, turned herself onto her front, rising up onto her knees in a half-arch, not entirely deliberate, just her body looking for a different angle. Ankur adjusted behind her, hands moving along her hips, and lowered his mouth again from behind.

He spread her gently and licked her from behind, slow, broad strokes that made her clutch the pillow in both hands. He buried his face in her and let the hunger he hadn't known he had take over, his tongue working her pussy from this angle, tasting her, his fingers sliding back inside her as he held her from behind with his free hand. She was muffling her cries in the pillow, her whole body shaking, hips pushing back against his mouth.

And then she came apart.

Her body seized, every muscle pulling tight at once, a long breathless shuddering release that she swallowed into the pillow as best she could. She collapsed forward, body still trembling, face pressed into the fabric, breathing in ragged pieces.

Ankur kissed the back of her thigh, soft and gentle. Then moved up beside her and pulled her into him. She turned and pressed her face against his chest without saying anything.

Neither of them spoke.

They lay there together, skin warm, bodies slowly returning to something like calm. At some point, Ankur remembered, with a faint, distant sense of having done the right thing without knowing why, that he had quietly locked the door after Som and Ritika had left. He hadn't been certain why he'd done it at the time. Instinct, maybe. Or something more like hope.

Then: knock knock.

Som's voice, low through the door. "Bro? You guys still up?"

Ankur and Priya both went rigid at the exact same moment.

Their eyes met. Wide and wild, the panic replaced everything else in an instant.

Priya was already sitting up, grabbing the sheet, pulling it around herself. Her hair was everywhere. Her lips were swollen. Her breathing hadn't fully settled.

"What do we do?" she whispered.

Ankur was already off the bed, stepping into his boxers, hunting for his t-shirt in the dark.

"Ankur?" Ritika's voice this time was softer. "Everything alright in there?"

"Yeah, yeah, one second," he called back, keeping his voice loose. "Priya's feeling off, I think the tequila's getting to her. Just give us a minute."

Silence on the other side. Then: "Okay. We'll wait."

Priya was already moving, pulling her shorts on and getting them backward, correcting them, reaching under the pillow for her bra and making the instant decision to stuff it into her bag rather than try to put it on in the dark in forty seconds. She pulled her oversized t-shirt over her head and sat on the edge of the bed.

Ankur opened the door.

Som and Ritika stood outside. Faces concerned, calm.

"Is she okay?" Som asked.

"Yeah, just dizzy from the tequila. She's lying down," Ankur said, rubbing the back of his neck.

Ritika's eyes moved into the room for just a moment. She didn't make a production of it. But she took in Priya sitting on the bed with her hair pressed against her neck, the faint flush still on her face, the way she wasn't quite meeting anyone's eyes. The bra strap catches the light from her bag, slightly visible.

Ritika said nothing.

But she looked at Priya, and for a brief moment something passed between them, quiet and direct and without any judgment in it at all. An acknowledgment. Woman to woman.

Then she stepped inside and let it go, and that was that.

Everyone settled back into bed. The room had a different quality to it now, not tense, but settled. As something that had needed to happen had happened, across both sides of the bed, and now the air was just still. They all slept. Properly, deeply, no one stirring.

The last morning of the trip arrived pale and quiet.

The vodka and tequila were long metabolized. The specific warm blur of the night before had sharpened into clarity. The skin had cooled. And everything that had happened sat very plainly in the room alongside everyone, unable to be unfiled.

Ankur was the first to register that Priya wasn't beside him. He reached out without thinking and found the sheet tossed back, the mattress cool. Bathroom door open. Her sandals are gone. Her phone is gone.

He lay there for a moment, telling himself she'd stepped out for air, or had to call her boyfriend before the lie got more complicated, or just needed to be alone after everything. He told himself these things and then sat up and tried calling her anyway.

She declined.

He tried again. Declined.

The third time it rang out.

Something cold moved through him. The warmth of the night before, her breath against his chest, her body trembling under his hands, all of it tilted sideways and became something that felt a lot like dread.

He woke Som and Ritika. "Have either of you seen Priya?"

They blinked at him, groggy. Ritika said, "Check the bathroom?"

"She's not here. She's not picking up."

He went outside, texting as he walked. Please just let me know you're okay. Please share your location. The messages were being read. No reply.

Then a notification. She'd shared her live location.

Half a mile away. Near the beach.

He went fast.

He found her standing at a low fence near the palm trees, the ocean behind her, back turned, voice soft and light. She was on the phone. She was laughing.

Ankur stopped.

He knew that tone. He had never heard her use it with her boyfriend in all the time he'd been overhearing those calls. It was gentle and easy and warm in the particular way of two people who have built something together over the years and know how to slip back into it even after a fight. She was someone's girlfriend. She was being affectionate.

He stood there until she saw him. She finished the call, took a breath, and turned.

The moment between them was heavy with everything it wasn't going to say.

"You okay?" he asked, walking up beside her.

Priya looked out at the water. "I don't know."

Silence.

"Whatever happened last night," she said, her voice going quiet, "it shouldn't have."

She wiped at her eyes. The tears came anyway.

"I know he's not good to me. I know that. Everyone tells me. Ritika. My sister. I tell myself sometimes. But I still love him." She turned to look at Ankur properly, her face open and frustrated and sad all at once. "We've been together four years. He's my first everything. I still have this thing in me that says when we're in the same city again, when I graduate, it'll get better. That we'll actually be okay."

She let out a short, bitter breath of a laugh.

"And now I don't know what last night was. Maybe I was drunk and lonely and you were warm and there and kind, and I just let myself have something for one night. And I feel like I cheated. Even if he's been awful to me, even if I've been miserable, this was something I chose to do, and now I have to carry it."

Ankur listened without interrupting. His throat was dry. He waited until she had said all of it.

"Priya. I don't think you're a bad person. Not even slightly. I think you've been holding a lot in for a long time and convincing yourself it'll fix itself. And you deserve to feel like you matter to someone. Like what you feel is the point, not an afterthought."

She looked at him.

"I don't know what last night meant either," he said. "But it wasn't anything to me. It wasn't just the alcohol. I'm not going to tell you what to decide. I'll be okay whatever you choose. But you'll be okay too. Either way."

She looked at him for a long moment. Her face did something complicated. Then she gave him a small tired smile. "You've grown up a lot."

"I think we both did," he said. "Last night."

She nodded. "Let's go back. I need to think."

They walked together without touching, the distance between them not cold but uncertain. Everything that had been said and done sat between them like weather, present, real, not resolved.

Back in the room, Som and Ritika were both up. The moment Ankur and Priya walked in, the atmosphere shifted without anyone doing anything deliberate. No jokes. Eyes that glanced and moved away. Conversations limited to necessary things.

Som looked at Ritika sideways. Ritika watched Priya's shoulders, the particular weight of her silence, the way she moved to her bag without looking at anyone. She didn't ask. She didn't need to. She had already understood.

She said nothing. Because sometimes the most decent thing you can do for someone is let them carry something privately for as long as they need to.

Ankur lay back on the mattress and looked at the ceiling.

Two nights ago, he had watched Ritika naked and wanting in Som's arms and felt a hunger so sharp it had scared him a little. Raw and animal and entirely without context or consequence in his mind. He had wanted her with a kind of desperation he hadn't known he was capable of.

And now his body still remembered Priya. The warmth of her skin. The sounds she made. She leaned against his chest in the quiet afterward. He had not just touched someone last night. He had felt something, something that sat in him differently than any want he had known before, more grounded, more frightening.

And yet the room was silent. And nothing was resolved. And he didn't know what any of them were to each other now.

He had spent the night in Priya's arms and still couldn't name what they were. He had watched Ritika come apart under Som's mouth and still felt the echo of it in his chest. He had crossed more thresholds in forty-eight hours than in his entire life before this trip.

And the strangest part of all of it, the thing that sat with him most oddly, wasn't the sex or the watching or the guilt or even the conversation on the beach. It was the silence afterward. They were all four in a room together, and nobody was saying a single word about any of it.

He rolled onto his side.

He thought about Ritika. Not the Didi, not the mentor. The one from two nights ago, spread out on the bed, whimpering ouch as Som's teeth caught her nipple and then pulling him back anyway. The one whose hips had rocked against Som's mouth as he ate her pussy until she couldn't stay quiet. The one whose orgasm he had felt move through the mattress under him.

How was he supposed to look at her now? How was he supposed to sit across from her at the club table next semester and take her notes seriously? How was he supposed to ask for advice about anything while knowing what her voice sounded like when she was completely undone?

He had heard her cum. He had felt the sheets pull in her fists. He had lain three feet away while another man's tongue was inside her.

And some part of him, underneath all the mess, still needed her. Not just her body, though that want wasn't going anywhere. But her, the version who always knew what to say, who saw through things clearly, who had made him feel like he was worth paying attention to.

He didn't know how to hold all of it at once. Ritika and Priya, and what each of them meant and what he was now in relation to either.

He just knew that something had opened on this trip, something real and complicated and completely without a clean ending.

And it wasn't done yet. Not even close.
