Chapter 868 - Chapter 869: Brimming With Confidence

Chapter 869: Brimming With Confidence

With his body already set, David Alaba could only watch the ball tugged behind him as Bruno carved a shooting channel.

Bruno barely paused—he whipped his right and curled it.

"Kane's deft flick!"

"Exquisite control!"

"Bruno chops—right-foot strike!"

"It's in!!!!"

"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLL!!!!!"

"Twenty-two minutes—United finally pierce Bayern!"

"Bruno's right-foot curler bends into the top-right corner!"

"After a string of big stops, Neuer had no answer."

"It was a gentle, guided strike—shaped into a beautiful arc."

...

Bruno skated to the corner, arms wide; teammates piled in, Harry Kane and Harry Maguire roaring into the camera.

On the touchline, Mourinho burst from his seat, fists pumping.

...

"A huge goal!"

"United's plan is crystal clear."

"For fifteen minutes, Bayern dominated—possession once hit seventy-seven percent—but for all that control, they produced little teeth."

"United absorbed, then in seven minutes launched multiple dangerous raids."

"Bruno's earlier long-range bolt sent a shiver through the Allianz; this move on the left was intricate—fast combinations, Shaw's arcing delivery to a dropping Kane."

"Kane's set was soft as you like, and Bruno's first touch made the moment."

"Under a Pavard–Alaba pincer, he brought it down, wrong-footed Alaba, and floated the finish—both a product of United's targeted plan and Bruno's individual class."

"Now Bayern are in trouble—two down on aggregate."

...

The broadcast cut to the chairman's box—Bayern's president wore a thundercloud.

If the first quarter-hour favored Bayern, the next few minutes were United's; a stern examination for the Bundesliga champions.

Bruno dazzled—one man tilting the match.

Flick frowned; Mourinho's setup had a stranglehold on Bayern's weak points.

Without Lewandowski, Bayern's bite was dulled; seventy-seven percent possession without menace.

United, by contrast, racked up threat in seven minutes—razor counters—Bruno breaking the deadlock at the key moment.

If Bayern couldn't equalize before halftime, the trial would worsen.

How to crack United's plan?

Mourinho's side lives on defensive transitions; push too high, and Bruno's blade will carve the spaces again and again.

What now?

...

Even after the goal, the tilt continued United's way. Bruno remained the sharpest knife, even nutmegging Pavard once before dinking to the back post for Marcus Rashford, who missed the volley.

Then, against the run, came the shock.

39': Sané crossed from the right; at the box edge, Choupo-Moting outmuscled Virgil van Dijk, chested down, and spun into a left-footed volley—a cannon into the left netting. De Gea had no chance.

1–1.

United's players trudged off aggrieved—leading for so long, sucker-punched near the break.

...

"Stunning—and sudden!"

"If Lewandowski had hit it, fine—but Choupo-Moting?!"

"Left-foot, too—out of nowhere, with pace—no time to set."

...

In the dressing room, talk buzzed around the strike—pure technique, and from Choupo-Moting.

The Cameroonian's scoring rate had long been modest; since 2009 he'd bounced through Nürnberg, Mainz, Schalke, Stoke, PSG, and Bayern without a double-digit league season.

But that hit—chest, pivot, left-foot volley—was no fluke.

Every goal carries a bit of fortune, but only atop firm foundations. Without skill, luck doesn't finish.

Credit to Choupo-Moting—he'd honed himself for years.

With his physique, elite shooting would make him devastating.

At thirty-two, the window narrows—and backing up Lewandowski doesn't help—but the quality showed.

...

"That was world-class," Bruno said earnestly.

Teammates blinked—praise for an opponent, and sincere.

Seeing their faces, Bruno grinned. "I haven't scored one like that."

Laughter broke the tension.

That kind of chest-spin-volley demands both technique and power; in that moment, Choupo-Moting suppressed Van Dijk with his frame.

Bruno would choose guile over force—his own brand of artistry—while the Cameroonian's was a blunt-force beauty.

"He can't score yours either," Harry Kane quipped.

Nods followed.

Both first-half goals were high craft; Choupo-Moting's was brilliant, and so was Bruno's—trapping under pressure, wrong-footing Alaba, curving it home.

"If you push again, you can bag a brace—maybe a hat-trick," Kane laughed.

...

The room rose to the tease—Bruno shook his head with a rueful smile. Hat-tricks don't come easy, and this was Bayern—a meticulous defense.

"Kane's right—be bolder," Van Dijk chuckled, shedding any weight from the conceded strike.

Top players have big hearts; carry errors with you and you don't survive at this level.

The chorus of encouragement swelled; Bruno almost laughed at the confidence—was it really 1–1 and not 2–0?

Then the source clicked: Mourinho's plan was smothering Flick's.

From selection to flow, it had gone to script—save for one flash of brilliance they couldn't control.

Rashford and Mbappé tortured the full-backs, Pavard and Alphonso Davies; through the middle, Kane's platforming worked; Bruno roamed free; Fred and N'Golo Kanté were winning their duels. United's relentless thrusts were stretching Bayern thin.

Thinking it through, Bruno felt the same surge—there was every reason to believe in the second half.

Stick to the blueprint, keep the edge—this match was there to be taken.

And who knows—maybe another for the captain.
