As we drove off we decided we will go back to Ravencroft academy instead of braving it out on the street. We tried calling family members but no one was answering. I felt my heartbeat in my ear. I felt my mouth dry so I asked Sonja to drive. I extended my senses and felt mom in a fortified building. I told the girls where she was and Irene looked it up on the papermap. Had I been driving when she said prison the car would have been wrapped around a tree. I freaked out, "Prison. My mom is not a criminal." Annie responded, "You described it as a fortress. Maybe she is there to hide from those things?" I extended my senses and eavesdropped on her conversation. My mom was part of security protecting the survivors. I wanted to link with her mentally so I can tell her I am safe and where I was going. I saw a police patrol car that was flipped upside down. Sonja stopped the car at my request. I told her to keep the doors locked till I get back. I heard all the doors locked as I walked towards the patrol car.
I picked up the radio and kept checking stations till I found the one the prison was using. The man who answered was the former chief of police. I asked him to tell mom where I was heading. He promised to do so. I felt the military convoy so I signaled the girls to hide. I hid in the car and watched as the army stepped out and summoned zombies so they can grab some and kill the rest. I told the man on the radio to move out of the prison and move to the academy where there is plenty of space to grow food. The military personnel are surely creating the next generation of zombies. The man on the other side asked me what to tell mom. I told him tell her that her apex predator daughter is going to the academy and calling it home. So she had better rally up all the survivors and get her butt over here now. Sooner or later those things are going to get out. If they stay then it will be like an all you can eat buffet. He will be their breakfast, lunch and dinner. He didn't believe it till I stuck the receiver of the radio out so he can hear what the soldiers were saying.
He asked me to give him a day at least. I gave him the address to Ravencroft and switched off the radio. I quietly made myself invisible and ran at torpedo speed. I found the girls and asked Sonja to open the door. She did and we took off to find supplies. Normally we would go to convenience stores but they will be picked clean so we went to the vacated houses. I collected clothes, shampoos, soaps, cleaning liquids, groceries, bullets and guns. I even cleaned out all of the medicines left in the houses. Then I got some empty bottles and siphoned off gasoline from the cars so we don't have to refuel. I pulled out the batteries as well. The girls wanted snacks so I searched for those too. Then once the SUV was stuffed to the brim we left for the academy. We took turns driving and we reached the private school the place was empty. There was nobody. I did a quick sprint and found nothing. It was empty and felt weird. I double checked for booby traps and bombs.
The military had removed everything from the storage unit. I deactivated the cameras before I went outside to signal the girls to come over. Daisy stopped at the drop off area. I emptied the SUV and went back to get the rest of the stuff from the houses. No one is going to miss it. I asked everyone to move everything inside while I go to the nursery to get seeds so we can grow fruits and veggies. I quickly ran and found the place untouched. I got apple, tomatoes, potatoes, oranges, herbs, ginger, garlic and carrots. Daisy mentioned one of her neighbours had a lemon tree. I took her with me as I flew to get it. I tied a ribbon on a branch and asked her if there were any more useful trees I can nab. She showed me a house where the owner grew all sorts of berries. After sorting the ones to snag I escorted Daisy safely and went back for the plants. I replanted them all on the school grounds or the greenhouses. I used torpedo speed to move everything. Then I took a moment to catch my breath. We had the place to ourselves.
I made myself invisible and went out to search for a walkie talkie. I found one in the police station. A zombie officer had it on his waistband. I grabbed it quickly and searched the place for anything useful. The weapons vault was almost empty. It had bullets of different types, a few shotguns, a rifle, a device designed to break doors and a bazooka. It took several trips but I removed everything possible. From weapons to bulletproof vests. There was no stone unturned. I got home and turned the radio on. I called the prison and mom answered. Shaw can be heard in the background. Mom began to cry. I told her to buck up and get over to the academy. The girls and I have grabbed everything useful and we have made it our fort. She and the other survivors better get over here since the army is working with the scientists. I am sure they will make deadlier varieties of zombies. I asked Shaw if he was still loyal to the death cult. If he still likes being a licensed killer. Mom laughed, "That's my daughter. She hates the army. She thinks they do more harm than good."
I pinched the bridge of my nose, "Mom get your butt over here before you become zombie food. Understand something. Only survivors are allowed here. No army and no scientists. No specimen collection and no nonsense. Are we clear?" Mom replied cheerfully, "Of course dear!" I frowned, "The last time I heard you speak that was the day I used my crutches to hit the washing machine" then I heard mom burst out laughing. She took a moment and then I guess she accidentally pressed the button yell at Shaw before telling everyone else to get in their vehicles and drive to the academy. The military can have the prison. The academy is larger and has space to grow food and have space much more. Mom promised she and the other survivors will be at the academy around five. I made it clear. There is no room for the science department. If they come here I will use the guns and shoot them dead. I am very serious. They will come to the academy to die.
Mom promised, "Just us dear. We celebrate the arrival of survivors. We hate watching the soldiers hauling these nightmares. We only chose to stay because there was nowhere to go. We are coming dear." I smiled, "Excuse me while I get Batou" mom was in shock, "Batou is there? I thought he was dead. I am happy to hear that." It took me sixty seconds to find him. I made sure he knew about everything. I told him to hold on before I took him to the academy in the blink of an eye. He explained to mom that I am alive and that the place was secure. Once mom was offline I got on my knees and Batou asked me to get up. He trusts me. Shaw called to remind me the place was military property. I reminded him if it was military property then why is the entire place empty. Since the place has no occupants and it is proven it has no use I am reconfiscating this place. He had no words so I switched off the radio. I heard everyone else laughing. Batou was grinning, "You are still you" I grinned, "Yes I am still me. I am just cured. I don't understand why you would believe I am different."
Batou explained, "We were told once a person is bitten their attitude changes." I stared at him like he has slapped me. I went to check the power as the girls told him how I had saved their lives countless times. I came back and Batou was like a proud dad. I gave him a hug and pulled out a rifle. I assembled it and loaded it too. Then I went to the gate and waited for the guests to arrive. Mom and the other survivors came. Irene and Daisy checked them one by one for bites. They went inside and mom made it clear the scientists are not here. Just survivors. I checked the car and allowed it to get in. I put the gun back in the case and had everyone gather at the lobby. I gave them the house rules and introduced myself and my friends. I assigned a chore for everyone so no one is going spend the day loitering. Some were assigned to the kitchen. Some to the laundry. I saw mom and Batou snickering. A few were tasked as guards the rest were gardners. I asked Irene to watch the guests as the military was coming over. I didn't take a weapon as I went to the gate.
Shaw was in the front hummer. I stood in front and asked him to state his business. He asked me to step aside as the military made itself at home. I told him to turn around and go back to the prison since he and the zombie makers not welcome. He asked again and I refused. Mom came out and told him to go back. This is no military zone. She has seen them inject the zombies and watched with horror as they became worse. So now a safe zone has been established she and the other are not going to be a buffet for those killers. Shaw stared for a second and asked if the place was secure. I grinned, "I double checked personally" he stared at me for a second and ordered the others to leave. Shaw walked over and asked mom to let the military personnel make a base here. Mom and another survivor told him if the soldiers come so will the zombies. The reason they came here was so they can feel safe and never see another zombie while they try to grow food and live out their lives.
Shaw asked if the zombies were the problem. Everyone yelled yes in unison. He didn't say a word. He just walked back to his hummer and drove away. I asked everyone to get back to their new home. People were crying happy tears. I walked back and mom didn't say a word. I took her to an empty classroom and covered the windows before showing her the truth. Batou was there for support and were my friends. I told her how I was cured. I overheard two people talking and took the substance from the locker. What it contained and how it cured me. Mom listened without any reaction. I asked her to put her guns on the table and step aside. I took a deep breath and changed into the beast. I had to change back to explain that the side effects. It changed me physically. Mom stared blankly as Irene and the others testified that I have not harmed them. All I did was protect them from harm. I risked my life against a werewolf. I had saved from Molly and zombies.
Mom took a moment before she looked at me. Slowly a proud mom face appeared. She wanted to know more. I told her about Cain and the others who came to protect us. They didn't harm us or eat us or kidnap us. The formula just enhanced their personality. I heard a bang and went to see what was going on. The army had blasted a wall. I grinned as they drove away. I zipped out of the school and went to find a way to fix the wall. I found an abandoned construction site and picked up the necessary items. I came back and rebuilt the wall as quickly as possible. Then I zipped back to tell my friends. Mom was surprised so I took her to the blast site. She was furious so when we came back she switched the walkie talkie on and yelled at Shaw. He had to apologise and he asked if he could send someone to fix it. Mom retorted that it was already fixed. He came to see a newly constructed brick wall with visible scotch marks. They were hot to the touch. He was amazed that someone had managed to rebuilt the wall in such a short. He went back to the prison and we didn't see him for a while.
I was sure that I will my brother when the newer version breaks free. The monster makers will come here so they can continue making beasts to eat us. Sonja just swore in Ukrainian. Irene just nod her head. A week later Shaw used the radio ask if they could come over. I told him that he is welcome but the zombie makers are not. He and the soldiers can come and live as farmers or security but they are not allowed to behave like they are the masters of the universe. A few seconds later he came with a convoy. I asked them to get out and let us search them for bites and check their vehicles. If there is a scientist or anything zombie making stuff they will turn around and leave the property. Shaw asked us to open the door. I smiled, "My house my rules" he didn't get out so I told him to turn around and go in a different direction. He asked me again to let him in. I told him he can only get in if he accepts house rules.
I can tell that he will do whatever he sees fit so he can find somewhere else to create monsters to depopulate the world. He walked out with his hands raised. I checked him for bites and told him to get in. He walked in and ordered everyone else to do the same. One by one they came and I searched them before they got in. I searched the vehicles and waved them in. The zombies came and I stood still. They went around me to the gates. I had placed the machete on the dirt. It took me a while to find it. I beheaded them all and walked back in. The soldiers were staring as Irene laughed merrily. Mom was impressed. Shaw asked nicely, "How are you able to walk amongst them so easily?" I shrugged, "I had a rare blood disorder. I may look healthy on the outside but traces of the illness still exists. They like to eat healthy so they will chase after you while they treat me like a brick wall." Mom was amazed and so was Batou. One survivor checked me for bites and inquired about my illness. I made it clear to Shaw if he brings those zombie makers then I will shoot him first. Mom asked me not to shoot him. Shaw promised there will no specimen collection as we head to the main building for lunch.
