Chapter 8 - Text imagination: Contracted(2)

I opened my eyes slowly.

"Urgh, I fell asleep?"

I had fallen asleep on the soft piece of furniture.

"Hello...."

I heard a voice from behind and turned my head.

'I guess that human is awake now. I can resume my research.'

I simply observed the human thoughtfully.

The human's body temperature was lower and his face looked slightly pale.

"What is this thing called?"

I pointed downwards while staring at the human.

The human flinched slightly and answered. This human, its reaction was certainly different to before.

"That's a couch..."

The human's voice was also more subdued than before.

'A couch....'

"And what's that?"

I pointed towards the rectangle emitting light in his hands.

"... It's a phone."

I continued asking questions and eventually the human asked a question.

"Why, are you here?"

"Because you summoned me, you foolish human."

The foolish human shook his head and continued talking.

"I mean…. Why did you accept the contract? I doubt my soul is that valuable."

'Oblivious human.'

"Your soul isn't worth that much to me, however, that doesn't mean it's worthless. Even bugs exist for a reason. Anyway, what's that?"

I pointed towards something that was connected to something called a television.

"….."

The oblivious human didn't answer.

"Human? I'm asking a question."

"Oh, sorry about that. That's a cable that's connected to something called a game console."

'Truly strange…. I guess humans have developed many things since the last time I was here.'

In just a mere one hundred or so years, earth has changed this much. Were there humans out there that surpassed the rest?

'Special humans? Could that be possible....'

I thought about all the humans I've met and slowly nodded to myself.

'Kings and emperors.... then there were those that desired something so much that they alerted me. Be it greed, envy or delusion.'

It seems I've seen many of those special humans before.

"Ah, what do I call you?"

The oblivious human asked as he sat down next to me on the sofa.

'A title? What did they call me?'

I briefly searched through my memories and found an appropriate answer.

"Teller of apocalypse?"

'It seems quite fitting.'

Weirdly enough the human shook his head and sighed.

"What do you find displeasing?"

I asked as I approached him.

"Cough! Goodness, that's too close."

'He's bold, any other person would be too scared to even move....'

He had the guts to tell that right to my face. I moved away while observing him silently.

"Hmm, apocalypse.... let me check something."

He pulled up his phone and then asked.

"Apocalypse as in revelation?"

"Yes, what else should it mean?"

The foolish yet bold human asked.

"Got it.... here, what do you think of Sibyl as a name?"

He turned his phone and I read its contents.

'Yet again there is more information.... prophet....'

"I'll accept it temporarily. Now, what do you normally do in your life?"

I needed information outside of his home.

'I'll also have to research about how to use a phone.'

The foolish human flinched slightly and his expression changed as he looked away for a moment.

"Uh, I'm unemployed."

Foolish indeed, the human couldn't even answer properly.

"I don't care, show me what you do every day. I need information about humans and their creations."

"Oh... alright?"

The foolish human briefly looked outside and flinched.

The sun was rising in the distance, colouring the sky with an orange hue.

"It's morning?"

'He really is foolish.'

The foolish human sighed as he scratched his head.

"Fine, I'll show you. Cough."

'Finally, I can properly gather information.'

The foolish human got up and changed clothes.

"Can you not look?"

'What is he complaining about? I've let him live so far, shouldn't he be more respectful?'

"Foolish human."

"What??"

After changing clothes he went to another place within his home.

"Wh-."

"It's a kitchen, you cook food and clean plates here with tools."

He took out-

"Bread, peanut butter and jam. You can toast these, however I don't feel like it. Oh, toasting is like cooking until crisp."

'I know what that means though?'

He ate his food silently for a while before he stopped.

"Why did you stop, human?"

He looked at me briefly and shook his head.

"Sit down, I'll cook some eggs or something."

"Don't order me around."

".... Fine. Cough."

He cooked some eggs wit-

"A pan and a stove to add heat to cook the egg."

'An offering?'

He placed the egg on a plate and gave me a-

"A fork, knife and a spoon. You won't be needing a spoon."

I felt a strange emotion briefly.

'This foolish human.... should I just kill him?'

I shook my head briefly, I shouldn't break the contract for something like that.

He sat back down and continued eating.

"Why did you only cook for me?"

The foolish human looked at me briefly with unfamiliar eyes and answered.

"It's because it felt weird being the only one eating."

'Compared to the kings... he's the opposite.'

I sat down and ate the food.

'It's extremely bland compared to what those kings gave me.'

The kings and emperors who feared me and never ate while I ate. Then there was this human, he was foolish, he didn't fear me and even did what those kings couldn't.

After he finished eating he cleaned everything and went towards the door to the outside.

'Finally, the current human world.'

Then he stopped right in front of the door, looking at me.

"Hmm."

He checked his phone again and sighed.

"Let's get you some clothes."

"Why? Clothes are only needed to provide warmth to the human body, nothing more. It will be useless to me who isn't effected by temperature."

"That's true, but there are other reasons why people use clothes."

I listened silently, this was the time to learn about humans.

"Appearance is one, we like to look good, clothes are a way we can do that. There's also the factor of how comfortable it is. Some don't care about appearance and just want to be comfortable."

'So clothes are important to humans.'

I only wore clothes so that I could fit in with humans better, so I never thought about it much.

'That one emperor said it was to make me more comfortable..... did he lie? He also offered to remove everyone's clothes if I found it uncomfortable.'

"Can you make clothes?"

The foolish human asked a question.

"... Yes."

'It would be good if I could blend in better with humans.'

"Alright, can you please cover up your legs and create shoes?"

'How weird, he didn't seem to mind until now.'

It would definitely take a while until I fully understood humans.

After about fifty or so minutes the foolish human nodded.

"That... should be fine? Cough, whatever, let's just buy some clothes."

He opened the door and a light breeze went through me.

'This is the place where humans live.'

*******

I locked the door and looked at Sibyl for a while.

'For a demon, she seems awfully curious, or should I say dedicated to her work?'

She was still wearing a poncho but now she had more clothes.

Shoes, tall socks and a T shirt.

'It took about 80 or so tries until she figured it out.'

The first thirty or so times her clothes stuck to her body, which looked quite odd.

'Although it's not that much better now, at least the laws of physics technically support this?'

The shoes looked like they were made badly with CGI, the socks looked fine from a distance, but looked impossible when you looked closer, and the T shirt was all in one piece, not to mention the colours.

'I should've just showed her pictures to reference. It's probably fine, she's a demon after all.'

I felt the consequences of my actions pretty quickly. Quite a few people were staring at her, but she was preoccupied with staring at a light post.

"It's a light post, it turns on when it gets dark."

"Is it dangerous?"

"No."

I walked towards my car and opened the door.

"This is a car, it's used for transportation."

Sibyl nodded to herself and I got in the car after opening the door for her.

"You sit down and you put on the seatbelt."

"Humans are still fragile."

I ignored her comment and turned on the car

"I'm using a key t-."

"I know what a key is."

I stared blankly at Sybil who answered back.

'Is she annoyed? Do demons even feel annoyed?'

"That's good, let's continue."

I started driving and answered all her questions.

"That's a skyscraper."

"That's an advertisement."

"It's used to make people want to buy something."

"Tha-

After a long barrage of questions we arrived at a supermarket, eventually reaching a clothing store.

'I used so much time on her clothes that the supermarket opened.'

".... That's the clothing store. Let's go in."

"Got it."

She seemed determined or something, her expression felt a little too serious.

'She should learn to relax…. Scratch that, a few people are staring a little too much.'

"Now then.... found it, there's the women's section."

I pointed and looked at Sybil.

"I see, that makes sense..."

She seemed to be very on guard, looking around constantly.

"Should I explain what everything is?"

She nodded and I explained yet again.

"An-."

Someone approached us and asked.

"Hi, are you two searching for clothes?"

"Yes, she needs new clothes she.... visited Mexico recently..... and that's all she's been wearing. She also loves playing around with strange colours."

A relatively horrible excuse in my opinion but it did the job.

"….. Alright, miss, let's go over there and pick out an outfit for you."

"Don't tell me what to do."

Sybil said while looking at the employee.

'What are you saying now??'
