Chapter 381 - Chapter 381 - Hello, Radovid. It's been a while.

[Chapter Size: 2700 Words.]

Third Person POV

Novigrad.

...

...

"Quick, protect the High Priest!" shouted the temple men, quickly trying to form a shield against the enraged population.

Coming back to their senses, the priests accompanying their leader were still trying to process everything. He had only just managed to make sense of part of what had happened a short while ago, before the city simply exploded against them... The sacred temple of their religion had also vanished, along with that thing he couldn't even say what it was that had come from the sky, but which had looked like a dragon before simply obliterating part of that area of the city.

Now, the population had decided to hunt them like animals, assigning all the blame for the city's devastation that night to them. Some had no chance at all when they were caught by the first aggressive people.

Upon reaching the area where they were gathering after losing the temple, they were simply assaulted by a group of people carrying anything they could find, clubs and other weapons. Some were brutally beaten, falling dead in the middle of the street due to the attacks of hundreds of people.

The temple guards were terrified. Some simply dropped their swords and wanted nothing to do with that enraged crowd. After all, even if they could kill one or two of them with a sword, they would certainly be surrounded, beaten, and even dismembered by the people themselves.

The High Priest was there, watching the group of people trying to hunt him down as they rushed into an alley to escape.

"We have to flee the city, my lord! If we can reach the docks, we can get a ship. The sea will calm down soon!" said one of the men wearing a white robe like everyone else in the group fleeing with their leader.

They could even see the harbor in the distance, but the sea was certainly not calm. The wave that had erupted from the enormous stone that had supported the temple and had fallen into the ocean had created a massive surge. That wave had simply swept through the entire dock area, far more than the previous one. The place was in complete chaos.

Even some fishing huts, where people kept their boats, had been flooded and dragged away by the sea. Some ships had broken free from their mooring ropes, while everyone waited for the water to finally recede back into the ocean, but that did not seem likely to happen immediately.

"Save me, please! Don't let me fall into their hands!" said the High Priest, clearly overcome with terror.

He did not want to be beaten to death. As he began seeing some people using knives and stones to attack other priests, he became even more horrified.

"How can this be happening...?" He could not even process everything he had seen that night. All he wanted now was simply to escape with his life.

"Save me!" They watched, while running, as one of the men in the group stayed behind to try to stop the citizens pursuing them. They caught up to him before throwing him to the ground and starting to pour fire over him, while the man screamed desperately for help.

That terrified the High Priest. Around him, everyone was terrified. They had been loved by the city until just a few hours ago. Now, they were being hunted in the same way they hunted non-humans and those connected to magic.

Everything they had witnessed that night made anything they believed in seem insignificant by comparison.

All they had that was divine was a flame that remained lit at all times in the temple and their words. Compared to the monstrous power they had felt over the city that night, clearly no human could do that. No mortal would have the ability to accomplish what they had seen, to the point of threatening to destroy the entire city next time.

And everyone knew one thing: no matter who was behind it. To the people of that city, viewed as selfish, sinful, and criminal by nature, the choice would be obvious. They would condemn the entire religion of the Eternal Fire to preserve their own lives in the face of such overwhelming power.

They had called others sinners, and now they needed to quickly yield before that unknown power. Then they should first destroy the very thing that had led them down that path. That religion!

As for the High Priest, he had a different opinion. He only wanted to live, fleeing through the increasingly surrounded alleys. More and more men from the group had stayed behind until moments ago, trying to protect him from the furious population. But after seeing their companion burned alive, no one wanted to stay behind anymore.

Madara and Ciri were on top of a building, watching the entire pursuit unfold. After Madara teleported her there, they simply remained watching while deciding to deal with the High Priest personally.

"I bet he never expected his life to come to this," Ciri remarked mockingly.

She was already aware of what they had been doing. Even though they did not wield swords like the Witch Hunters, it was their ideologies that drove all of it. The High Priest openly declared that non-humans should perish before the fire, be purified in their twisted mindset, which meant dying in a cruel and sickening way.

Now, he was the one being hunted. His own people were being killed before the very same population that had praised them until not long ago.

"As much as I would love to see him die at the hands of the people of Novigrad, I believe we should finish him off once and for all," Madara said.

Ciri silently nodded beside him. Madara then activated his Sharingan and tossed a coin. While the man fled alongside a group of priests, he suddenly disappeared, and the coin appeared in his place.

Madara had activated the Sharingan to perform the exchange using his spatial ability.

The group of priests stared in shock at the coin falling to the ground.

"What happened?"

"The High Priest disappeared!"

"Magic! Someone turned him into this coin!" one of them shouted.

When they picked up the coin, their hands trembled.

"Who was it? What vile creature did something like this?" They began complaining desperately before fleeing again after finding nothing in the alley that could have done it, since the population was not far behind and continued massacring anyone who tried to stop them.

Meanwhile, the High Priest appeared before Madara completely stunned. Before he could react, he received a kick to the face and simply fell unconscious with a broken jaw.

"Well, this guy deserves all of this and more..." Ciri muttered before returning to the group. "Should we save them?" she asked.

Madara looked at the group wearing white robes and shook his head.

"Leave those people behind. It doesn't matter anymore," Madara simply said.

Tissaia nodded with a shrug as they picked up the High Priest before returning to the mansion.

The man fell unconscious onto the floor as they teleported.

"You take care of him. Meanwhile, we'll deal with the monsters," Madara said after returning to the group, surprising them by how quickly he had come back.

Tissaia nodded.

"All right."

"I'll go with you." Ciri also wanted to take part. They disappeared the next moment.

The entire resistance, especially its main members, looked at the High Priest, a fifty-year-old man with graying hair and a somewhat overweight build.

Everything the resistance, mainly Tissaia de Vries, Triss Merigold, Zoltan Chivay, Sigismund Dijkstra, Vernon Roche, Ida Emean aep Sivney, Dandelion, and the leaders of the underworld had been building for months had simply collapsed in a single night because of a few actions by those two.

The population that had been thirsty for the blood of non-humans was now completely terrified of what it had done. The Witch Hunters, who killed people and turned their deaths into spectacles before the public, had all been exterminated, with their own leader dying in a manner just as miserable as the one he inflicted upon his victims.

The religion of the Eternal Fire itself seemed to be on the verge of disappearing, with its temple destroyed and the population placing the blame for the entire tragedy on them, hunting them throughout the city.

How could they not be stunned by all of that?

The members of the resistance continued staring at the High Priest, captured so easily, without knowing exactly what to do. Meanwhile, the group that had previously been fleeing with the High Priest, in that other part of the city, still believed the High Priest had been transformed into that coin and carried it with them, trying to protect him while they continued being hunted through the alleys.

At the same time, Madara and Ciri went to solve some problems in the city. Of course, that entire display of power had consequences.

The entire city was filled with destruction. The glass of practically every window had been shattered. There were people injured because of it. Some houses were still burning.

But the worst problem now was the monsters. Due to the enormous amount of water brought by the storm, creatures from the sewers had been swept into the city. Many monsters ended up emerging from the deepest areas of the underground tunnels or were carried away by the water currents.

Because of that, it was normal to hear frightened screams from people when they encountered monsters appearing in the middle of the streets.

That was when Madara and Ciri sprang into action. They began appearing everywhere, eliminating monsters with absurd ease and at such incredible speed that most people barely had time to react.

Madara did not even need to descend to the ground. He moved by leaping across rooftops, throwing explosive fire kunai that struck any creature in his path. The monsters simply exploded.

Meanwhile, Ciri teleported. She appeared and disappeared so quickly that no one could see her properly. People only noticed a green flash, and in the next instant, a monster would appear dead on the ground.

Drowners, necrophages, devourers, and even Katakans, extremely dangerous creatures, fell one after another at the hands of the two.

As they moved through the city, they massacred hundreds of monsters scattered everywhere. Madara was even faster thanks to the countless clones he had created, working simultaneously throughout all of Novigrad.

After that, the night ended relatively peacefully as Madara and Ciri finished everything and returned to the mansion.

The population of Novigrad would still need some time to process everything that had happened, but for Madara, it was not over yet.

"So, what are we going to do now?" Ciri asked Madara as soon as they returned to the mansion, while everyone was discussing the events.

"I'm going to get the king now. We'll execute him before dawn," Madara announced calmly.

"You think you can get him before the end of this night?" Dijkstra stepped forward, asking in surprise.

Madara simply looked at him.

"Well, it seems you didn't understand what we just did tonight. We brought down a religion and brought an entire city to its knees in just one hour. Now, bringing down a king will be simple."

He paused briefly.

"But I would also like to see Radovid personally," Madara replied calmly.

"Bring that bastard to us... I'd like to see that fool too," Ciri said, knowing very well that Madara would go alone if she said nothing.

"Of course."

Madara replied before disappearing with his Hiraishin teleportation.

He teleported directly to the capital of Redania, landing on one of the city's rooftops. Many of his teleportation seals had been destroyed over the last three years, but he still possessed enough marks to travel across practically the entire continent.

He had left some seals here, and the one he used had not been removed, even after three years.

As he observed the capital's castle, he knew that the symbol he had left inside the castle had disappeared, but that made no difference.

Madara simply advanced. He crossed the city in an instant, passing through the walls without being noticed by the sentries, before observing with his Rinnegan the entire magical barrier surrounding the castle.

Madara could not help but mock it internally. A man who wished to destroy all sorcerers was making excellent use of magic, apparently.

Advancing without hesitation, he passed through the barrier with ease using his space-time techniques.

Radovid was not sleeping at that moment. He was completely unaware of the destruction that had been unleashed in Novigrad, so he remained unconcerned on his throne at that moment.

If he knew what was happening in that city, he certainly would not be so relaxed there, drinking expensive wine while speaking with his advisors.

"Any sightings of the elves in the south?" he asked curiously.

Madara entered the throne room. He stood in a corner behind one of the pillars, silently observing.

There were only three advisors, two royal guards, and several palace guards scattered throughout the area, securing the room.

Madara heard the mention of the elves and could not help but think of the Scoia'tael. Were they active again? Well, Ida was still in contact with Francesca. Perhaps he would need to look into that later.

In any case, he did not wait for the advisor's answer. Radovid certainly seemed more concerned with hunting down and exterminating non-humans than actually governing Redania.

It was time to destroy his reign that very night. Madara quickly moved at high speed. The first guard to die was the one at the entrance. He barely had time to react when he glanced to the side and saw his head separated from his body.

The other guard beside him also quickly noticed his companion fall from the corner of his eye. He barely had time to turn his body to understand what was happening before he was killed as well.

"We are investigating, Your Majesty," one of the advisors said.

Meanwhile, behind him, soldiers began falling one after another.

Quickly, more than eight guards in the throne room had been killed before anyone could even comprehend what was happening.

Radovid, who had been listening to everything with an air of boredom while drinking his wine, raised his gaze upon noticing the strange movement in his peripheral vision.

His royal guards immediately tensed, placing their hands on their swords as they watched men fall one after another in complete silence.

However, the royal guards barely had time to speak. The first lost his head. The second stared at his companion in shock, while the king himself was also startled. But the second royal guard was decapitated immediately afterward by something moving at high speed.

"What is that?!" the three advisors exclaimed in unison.

Something landed near them. This time, Madara did not attack immediately. He simply appeared, observing everyone for a few seconds.

He did not have the Sharingan activated, only wearing his cloak while his hair swayed lightly.

"W-who...?" They did not have time to finish the question.

Madara simply acted. With a single movement, he cut down all three men at the same time.

They all died.

Radovid tensed up. He quickly stood and stepped back several paces, looking at Madara with obvious fear.

All that arrogance and boredom instantly vanished. Radovid knew that face very well.

After all, they had met during the meeting of kings, and Radovid had been one of those who insisted the most on opposing Madara at that time.

"Hello, Radovid. It's been a while." Madara spoke in a calm tone.

He seemed not to care in the slightest that he had massacred more than thirteen people. They were all men of power within Redania.

He had simply murdered them and was now standing before the king with a murderous look in his eyes.
