[Chapter Size: 2800 Words.]
Third Person POV
Novigrad.
...
...
"You came back..." The two words echoed through the throne room filled with corpses, and King Radovid hardly seemed willing to believe his own words.
"Yes, it's true," Madara said, stretching as he stared at Radovid. "I returned to the Continent a few days ago. You know, it was almost three years traveling between worlds. In the end, my wife and I were finally able to return to this one. I admit I'm still a little lost about how things have changed during that time." He spoke as if he were talking to an old friend, but his black eyes gleamed as though he were looking at his very own target.
Madara was an assassin, no, more than that, he was a shinobi. He knew very well how to control his emotions and did not fail to observe that king full of arrogance, watching his entire composure crumble with a certain amusement.
"Why are you here? What do you want?" Radovid said, his voice trying to sound controlled, but Madara could easily see the sweat beginning to form on his forehead, the pallor in his voice, the slight tremble, his heartbeat increasing, his defensive posture...
He was tense, he was afraid, he was terrified. He drew the only decorative sword he kept at his waist as a symbol of his royal authority.
But anyone who took a look at him would see that his arrogance no longer existed. Now, there was only fear.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?" he said, pointing at the corpses.
There were high nobles and famous knights there, dead. People whom all of Redania considered influential and venerable. Now, they were dead.
"I know what I've done. And you should know that I don't care. Not when I can simply destroy this entire kingdom with considerable ease..." Madara replied, leaving the man speechless.
"I remember that last meeting of the kings... You were quite willing to try to put me in my place, claiming that I had no right to impose my ideas before the kings of the North," Madara said in an amused tone.
If it had not been for Radovid's father back then maintaining silence, that boy, who was now king, would certainly have tried everything to put Madara in his proper place. The result would have been nothing but irritation and, perhaps, a premature death in the middle of that meeting.
But Radovid would never admit that, at least not until this moment.
"So you're here to kill me?" Radovid finally murmured upon hearing Madara's answer.
Madara looked at him. "Certainly. I said back then that I wasn't afraid of kings. But it seems you were still willing to challenge me. After all, there are posters with my image on wanted notices throughout your kingdom, offering more than ten thousand gold coins. The crown itself is funding that bounty." Madara spoke in the same amused tone while Radovid grew increasingly tense.
Of course he wanted to kill him, wanted to eliminate him. But Madara was not a variable that Radovid could control. His arrogance had blinded him in a way. After all, he considered himself superior to everyone else.
Radovid had no idea of the power he was trying to fight against.
Madara merely shrugged and watched the king, seeing him desperately try to find an answer.
"I..." Radovid tried to speak, but Madara was already in front of him.
Without any warning, he grabbed the man's neck beside the throne and lifted him with such force that he dropped his sword. While Radovid choked, Madara disappeared with him the next moment.
Radovid saw the entire scene change. Suddenly, he was standing above a cliff in the middle of nowhere that night, while Madara held him suspended in the air, ready to let him go.
"Don't come to me with excuses, you fool. Your arrogance irritates me far too much. Especially when it comes from someone weak, who hides behind his subjects and rules Redania through fear." Madara stared at him coldly.
"You only have power because others give it to you, because on your own, you have no power at all. It's pathetic. Your father at least had some dignity. I even respected him to a certain extent, you know? But you..." He paused briefly.
"You're just a king I intend to discard." Madara opened his hand and simply let the man fall from the cliff.
King Radovid could hardly believe what was happening. He managed to breathe again for a moment, only to realize he was in free fall.
"Ahhh!!" As he plummeted toward the rocks below, he began screaming desperately for help, watching Madara and the edge of the precipice grow farther and farther away.
Madara watched for a few seconds before activating his ability with his Sharingan. In an instant, he made Radovid switch places with a simple stone.
At the moment he was falling, Radovid appeared back again. The next instant, he slammed violently into the ground. The force could have crushed him, but Madara reduced his speed. Even so, the impact made him choke and gasp as he struggled to recover his breath.
When he finally lifted his head, he saw Madara watching him with his arms crossed.
"What... what do you want?" Radovid asked, his arrogance gone, fear now evident in his voice.
"Isn't it obvious?" Madara replied calmly.
"I'm back after three years. It's time to start changing a few things on this continent. And one of them is getting rid of some useless kings."
"You can't be serious. You can't just come here and kill me!" Radovid could not believe it.
"Stop being a fool, Radovid." Madara shook his head.
"Even your father knew we had this kind of power. That's why he was quite cautious around me." He took a few steps forward.
"I can eliminate you, and Redania won't be able to do absolutely anything against me. A new king will be chosen. Perhaps someone intelligent enough to understand what happened to the last one and avoid making the same mistakes." Madara stopped in front of him.
"That's how life works, Radovid." His eyes remained cold. "You're just a disposable piece. No matter all the greatness you always believed you possessed, someone will take your place and that's it..."
"I can pay you gold! I can give you titles! Just don't kill me!" Radovid finally seemed to have accepted reality, beginning to beg for his life.
Madara, however, shook his head. "It's not about money. To tell the truth, we have so much money that we could rebuild a city of gold as large as your capital at this very moment." Madara spoke calmly.
They had become extremely wealthy over the years while traveling through worlds. Not to mention that they possessed interdimensional locations connected to worlds where gold was an extremely abundant mineral. One of those worlds was devoid of life, but filled with precious metals that Ciri could take them to so they could collect everything valuable.
They certainly possessed almost infinite amounts of gold and precious stones, and the quantity they had accumulated in their storage locations at that moment would truly allow them to build a gigantic city made entirely of gold. There was no one else in that world who possessed more gold than the couple.
Madara spoke again to the pathetic king. "The issue is your actions against non-humans and your government. You knew very well that I would not allow that on this continent. After all, you also knew exactly what purpose the organization I created served. My actions in Kaedwen were a clear response."
"You don't understand! They are inferior to us!" Radovid said, trying to cling to any hope of changing his fate.
Then he seemed to remember something. "Philippa! Philippa killed my father! She's a sorceress! That's what they are! Greedy! Always looking for the first opportunity to seize power!" Radovid roared the words.
Madara simply continued shaking his head. There was no point in talking to that man anymore. At the very least, he had already stated all the reasons why he was going to die.
Madara grabbed him by the neck once again. Radovid was completely terrified before the two disappeared.
When they reappeared, they were already at the resistance mansion in Novigrad.
Everyone was surprised by the sudden appearance. The High Priest of the Eternal Fire had already been shocking enough. Seeing the King of Redania himself, Radovid, emerge through Madara's silent teleportation, held by the neck like a common criminal, surprised them even more.
While the man struggled to breathe, Madara simply dropped him onto the floor. Vernon Roche and Dijkstra immediately approached, looking at the scene with obvious disbelief.
In the end, their plan had always been to kill Radovid. After all, his reign of terror would never end while he remained alive, and Redania needed to be rid of its king.
But it was one thing to plan it. It was something entirely different to see him captured by the true person responsible for much of what had happened that night.
Now, Radovid, the King of Redania, was there. Thrown onto the floor as if he were nothing more than a stray dog.
As he coughed and desperately tried to catch his breath, those present could only watch, completely bewildered.
"Am I seeing things, Dijkstra? Or am I really seeing King Radovid right here in front of us? This isn't an illusion?" Vernon asked, completely stunned.
Meanwhile, Dijkstra shifted his gaze between Madara and the king lying on the ground. "No... He was really captured. And to think he would be captured like this..."
Dijkstra continued looking at Madara with caution and surprise. "You really captured him," he finally said.
Madara merely looked at him before turning his attention to the others. "Take the two of them. We're going to put them on the platform and execute them," Madara said as Ciri approached.
Ciri looked at the king, who was staring at them in fear. "It seems you've already dealt with him quite a bit."
"It was easy to capture him. After that, I said a few things that made him believe his fate was truly sealed," Madara replied.
"Wait! Don't kill me! I have information! I can't buy you with gold, but let me tell you something about Kovir! The king is planning to kill you!" Radovid practically begged in front of the people who looked at him with hostile expressions.
"Let me guess. You're talking about the king who somehow made an agreement with an Elder Vampire, aren't you?" Madara crossed his arms.
"..." Radovid stared at him, losing one of his last hopes of getting out of there alive.
"Well, that doesn't surprise me. I still don't know exactly what that king did, but I know Esterad Thyssen wants to kill me because of what we did to him three years ago." Madara shrugged. Madara had severely retaliated against the treasuries of Kovir and Poviss, both because of the kings' meeting and because of the support he had given to Nilfgaard.
"We'll deal with him later. As for you..." Madara looked at Radovid coldly. "You can go straight to hell."
He then turned back to the others. "Take the two of them outside," Madara ordered.
Zoltan let out a loud laugh. "Very well, lads! Help me grab these fools! We even have the chance to rough up this damned king!"
Zoltan appeared, grabbing the back of Radovid's neck before beginning to drag him away. They also took the High Priest.
"Hey, can I call my friends? I'm sure they'll enjoy seeing this. It would also be a good opportunity for you to get the city back on track with the help of the underworld," Zoltan suggested to Madara as they all exited through the mansion's doors.
Madara thought for a few seconds. "All right. Call the leaders of the beggars' gang and the dwarves' gang."
Zoltan quickly began sending messages. Amid the chaos that still gripped the city, even though there was no longer any destruction or monsters in the streets, people continued hunting down some members of the Eternal Fire and searching for the High Priest.
At the same time, the chief of the beggars and the leader of the dwarves arrived at the mansion in less than half an hour upon hearing about the execution. They looked at that place, which was perhaps the only location in the city that had not been damaged.
A crowd of non-humans, magic users, and even people who were there merely by chance began to gather.
Everyone focused on the platform where the High Priest and the King of Redania were standing.
"I will personally execute them." Madara said as he stepped onto the platform. Then he picked up a bastard sword and rested it before him, facing the gathered crowd.
"As you all know, Redania has become a kingdom full of problems because of all these prejudiced policies." Madara spoke calmly as he observed the crowd.
"Furthermore, my wife and I have been away for some time. After all, we saw many of you for the first time today after so many years." He then looked at the chief of the dwarves and the chief of the beggars, who swallowed nervously.
Madara had spoken directly with them three years earlier, keeping them in line and preventing much of the crime that had existed at the time, making Novigrad a much safer city.
The thefts carried out by the dwarves and the information gathering of the beggars still existed, but there was no longer open violence in the streets as there had been before. Zoltan also now controlled the city's former most violent gang, the one that ran the casinos and brothels.
And Dijkstra's gang was an organization focused mainly on gathering information for the spymaster. It had never truly been violent by nature. Unlike the beggars, who collected information from the streets, Dijkstra's business was primarily related to obtaining information from the high nobility through the bathhouses scattered throughout the city.
In any case, the four leaders were standing there before Madara once again. It was a clear demonstration that he had returned and expected exactly the same order that had existed three years earlier.
At least until the religion of the Eternal Fire rose to power and destroyed all the balance that had existed.
"I am the king! You can't do this!" Radovid shouted desperately. Beside him, the High Priest had also finally understood the situation and watched everything in fear.
"Well, I hope tonight's executions mark the beginning of a new chapter for this city and for this kingdom. Our world is still full of rot, and we must destroy everyone who contributes to it... From this day onward, we will build a new world..." Madara raised his voice so that everyone could hear.
"I know many of you have lost friends. I know many of you carry hatred because of what happened in this city." He paused briefly. "But I ask that tonight you witness a little of the justice this kingdom should have had from the very beginning."
Then he pointed at the two prisoners. "That is why we are going to execute these two people." With those words, Madara approached the High Priest first.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" the man shouted.
"What are your last words?" Madara asked calmly, ignoring his previous words. "You are being executed for your crimes."
He then pointed toward the crowd. "Everyone standing before you has been a victim, in one way or another, of your prejudice." Madara pointed.
The High Priest looked around, dwarves, sorcerers, some wearing black cloaks with red clouds. Members of the organization that had tried to stop his plans.
There were also other magic users, alchemists, herbalists, and even a doppler hidden among the people. They were all there.
"You are sinners! The Eternal Fire will destroy all of you!" he roared.
"Well, if those are your last words, then fine." Madara replied without emotion.
Then he raised the sword, and the strike cut through the man's neck with ease. His head separated from his body before everyone.
Radovid immediately recoiled at the sight of the execution. When Madara began walking toward him, the king felt panic take hold of his entire body.
"Well, you know why you're dying too." Madara shrugged, as if Radovid's death did not deserve any further explanation.
"No! You can't do this!" Radovid was terrified.
But Madara did not wait long. When he realized the king would say nothing but desperate attempts to save himself, he simply brought down the sword.
The blow struck him while Radovid was still staring at him with an incredulous expression.
That night, the High Priest of the Eternal Fire and the King of Redania perished within that mansion located in the wealthiest districts of Novigrad.
They died before a crowd made up precisely of the people they hated the most.
It almost seemed... poetic...
