In no time, Irwiz and Rera had reached the end of the tunnel.
Putting a finger on his lips, Irwiz felt the vibrations passing through the ground.
'What the…'
There wasn't another person near them. Since he wasn't familiar with his newfound abilities, he couldn't give an exact estimate. Still, he could feel that his sensitivity to vibrations were quite precise.
So, did that mean it was safe for them to go out now?
Irwiz let out his head and peeked around a bit. By sight, it didn't look like anyone was nearby either. Thus, cautiously, Irwiz crawled out of the tunnel.
Then, he put his hand on the ground and felt for any vibrations again. Still nothing.
Assuming it was safe, Irwiz gestured for Rera to come out.
"Is there no one nearby?" Rera whispered to Irwiz, getting the response of him nodding his head.
"Yes, I don't feel anyone. However, be cautious and try not to speak that much" Irwiz warned Rera.
Since they remembered which path they came from, the two quickly advanced the original way they were going.
That is, the place where those chants were coming from barely a day ago.
They really had no sense of time in this place. No sunlight ever came this far as they only had lanterns for light.
Being underground, they couldn't know whether it was day or night. However, it was probably around 5-6 hours since they escaped to here.
From what Irwiz guessed, the hidden tunnel they spent hours crawling through was nothing more than an illusion the first time.
Maybe the seal got weaker, but they only spent around quarter of an hour their previous few travels.
Considering they spent god knows how long digging that book off, and then his awakening, it shouldn't have been very long, not exceeding half a day.
Since it has been quite a few hours after the cult's gathering, it was possible they lowered their guards thinking the two had escaped.
Anyways, which organization had all the time in the world to mobilize all their members for half a day straight?
Not to mention, cult worshippers still had things to do, such as maintaining a double life, or do some nefarious things. That's what the previous boss of the shelter did anyways.
Considering these factors, Irwiz assured himself before advancing on his way.
The two were advancing quite fast, even though they were cautious.
Then, finally, Irwiz felt his fingertips touching the stone wall vibrate a bit. It was a chaotic vibration, with overlapping waves.
But when Irwiz concentrated, he could make it out that it was actually two separate but rhythmic vibrations.
Raising his hand, he motioned Rera to stop.
"People are coming, two to be exact. They're not very rushed, but we should hear their voice anytime now." Irwiz whispered.
Obviously, her face had become anxious after hearing the news. However, Irwiz held her hand and assured her.
"Calm down, the path we took had a lot of turns. Although we hadn't seen any hiding spots or rooms, we can fool them"
On the way here, they hadn't seen anything but torches and stone walls.
Worse yet, the tunnels weren't very rounded or anything. They were straight, and pretty long. That meant once the guards took the turn, they would immediately be able to see them.
To go back, and then turn a corner they wouldn't turn to, and somehow again turn a corner, it was all up to chances.
At the same time, they couldn't make any loud noises either.
All these pointed to bad news. But having a panicked little girl by his side was the least of what Irwiz wanted.
Right now, he really had to make a choice. The choice to either ambush the two of them, or go through the stupid consolation he said.
Irwiz really didn't want to risk his life doing the former though.
However, he also didn't want to take chances in matters regarding his life.
Very quickly, he was forced to make a decision. And stupid as it sounds, he was leaning more on the latter.
'Wait!' suddenly, an idea came up in Irwiz's mind.
What if he asked 'Fate' or the system that? How strong those people were?
Since he had to be quick, Irwiz instantly went through with the idea.
And in front of him, came up the grayish black panel as always.
[Required fate points to know the strength of the two approaching guards: 10]
It works! did that mean... he could also ask for the map of this place? Or perhaps even the way the two guards will decide to go?
Irwiz went through with both of the questions quickly.
[Required fate points for a map: Undetermined.]
[Rank not enough for the information.]
'Hmm... seems like this won't do. I will first see the strength of those guards' Irwiz thought.
Rank not enough? There were ranks for servants?
Anyways, the panel that came up disrupted his thought process.
[The two incoming guards are mortals who have been strengthened physically due to extensive exposure to a cult's rituals. One is carrying a dagger, and the other is carrying a revolver.]
'Mortals, but has firearm. Either way it is good they are not mystics. Still, I should take my chances and ambush if needed' Irwiz eventually decided to go back.
The two tried their best not to make any sounds. And although their speed was impeded by this restriction, they barely managed to reach a corner and immediately turned.
However, upon reaching that turn, Irwiz's face turned grim and his body tensed up.
There were more people coming from that way.
