The man had halted his own attack, one that would have most certainly wiped them out had he continued. Everyone was frozen in place, breathless.
"So what is it you want of me? Be quick. I have no taste for idle prattle."
The man's voice was like a deep grunt, bold and outspoken, yet it carried an immense amount of pressure.
"We j-just happened to stumble upon you."
Mei's voice trembled slightly. Usually, she wasn't this timid when speaking. If anything, she was usually the opposite. But the way she stammered only made the man's presence feel all the more oppressive.
"I see. If that is so, then go on your way."
The man went back to his seat and placed the meat over the fire. His words were non-hostile, but his gaze felt like it could crush them at any moment. They recoiled.
"Tell me... do I unnerve you so greatly?"
The man turned toward them with his fierce eyes after having just ignored them. They jolted in response. There was a sort of glint in his eyes.
