Chapter 50 - Vincent's Goal

Tidwell ate on the floor and pretended it was tactical.

Elias sat with his back against the wall, one tray balanced on his knees and the tablet resting beside him. The paused image from the video stayed dark, but he kept seeing the man enter his mother's house anyway.

Elara stood near the table until Elias looked up.

"You can sit down near us," he said. "Unless the military charges officers extra for using furniture near contaminated rookies."

She pulled a chair around and sat backward on it. The posture belonged to the girl he remembered more than the officer in front of him, which made the question harder.

Elias set his fork down. "The Doctor said my perception score was bad because I trust too easily and miss when people lie. I hated hearing it because he was probably right."

Elara said nothing.

That was almost an answer.
