Elias took the wrong turn on purpose. That was how he justified it to himself, anyway. The corridor back to A Block was marked clearly enough. He followed it for two junctions, then slowed when another hallway opened to his left. Officers moved through it with access cards clipped to their belts. No one looked panicked. No one blocked the way.
A sign above the hall read Central Archive. Dots appeared beside his shoulder. "You are about to do the thing where curiosity pretends it is navigation."
"I am expanding my understanding of the facility." "You are wearing a suit and sneaking toward books." "That sentence makes me sound better than I am." He turned down the hall.
At the end sat a door with a black panel and a thin yellow light around the edge. Elias placed his palm on the reader. The panel flashed once, then turned amber instead of green.
