I had forgotten Kai had asked for the both of us to meet with Arthur. For a moment, just a tiny little moment, I wanted to slam the door in his face. He would scare Arthur just by looking at him.
Why was it so clear? The way his eyes held that quiet disdain that to me felt louder than words. But, I would not let them see me that way. A silver always had to be polite.
So, with my best smile, I could muster for the demon, I stepped outside. "Are you ready to see Arthur?"
His jaw tightened, and without responding, he started walking away, leaving me to follow him like a dog. I let out a string of curses, internally.
"So Arthur will be quiet, so please don't scare him away. And please try to be nice. I know it's not in your DNA, but he's just a kid, and he did nothing to offend you." He would never take orders from me, but for Arthur, I had to try.
Why on earth did Kai think it would be a good idea to make us partners?
