Chapter 389 - Chapter 389 The Commission

Three days later.

After running to the Pokémon Center at least ten times a day, Silas finally received the carrying permit issued by the Johto League.

Although a full interregional permit would still take some time, he wouldn't be traveling to other regions anytime soon, so this solved a major problem.

His Pokémon no longer had to rotate staying inside their Poké Balls.

Professor Oak had also replied regarding Silas's request.

He would contact Professor Juniper in the Unova region. Over there, there was a senior Trainer who was very skilled in raising Accelgor and Escavalier.

The other party was likely willing to assist with a trade evolution.

However, since that Trainer was often difficult to track down, they might have to wait for some time.

"And although that guy has a laid-back personality and is easy to talk to, when it comes to Pokémon, he never goes easy. He might even test you a bit."

That was what Professor Oak said.

Silas had a faint guess in his mind.

But this was still far more than he had expected. He hadn't imagined Professor Oak would find someone of that level to help him.

"As for Team Plasma's research, I've already reported it to the Unova League. This kind of experimentation must be strictly suppressed."

When Professor Oak heard what Silas described, his face had turned darker than Silas had ever seen. It was the first time Silas had seen him truly angry.

And the first time he had felt the pressure emanating from him. Even through the screen, Silas felt like Professor Oak might devour him whole.

As expected of the man who once defeated Agatha.

Although he had shifted his focus to Pokémon research midway through his life, Professor Oak's strength had clearly not stagnated.

Silas only wondered what Professor Oak's reaction would be if he discovered that Team Rocket, right under his nose, had conducted similar or even more extreme, experiments.

Silas hoped he would never find out.

As for Mewtwo, its strength was far beyond ordinary human standards.

Even newly born, Silas believed it would at minimum possess power comparable to a minor Legendary, and very likely already rival a major Legendary.

Professor Oak quickly remembered they were still on the call and returned to his usual gentle, harmless demeanor.

Smiling, he reassured Silas:

"I've spoken with the Unova League. They said they hadn't noticed anything special about that Karrablast, which is why it was sent to the National Park together with the others. Since you've caught it, they hope you'll raise it well. They also hope you'll visit Unova in the future and exchange experiences with their outstanding young Trainers."

Silas felt considerably relieved.

Normally, experimental Pokémon would be confiscated by the League.

After all, no one knew what dark organizations might have altered. If something went wrong, the consequences could be serious. But with Professor Oak's communication and assurance, Silas no longer needed to worry.

"Thank you very much, Professor Oak."

"No need to thank me. But when you come back to rest, let me take a look at that child's data."

Silas nodded repeatedly. "Of course."

"Well then, I have matters to attend to. I'll hang up now. I wish you victory at this Regional Conference."

Professor Oak offered his blessing.

Looking at the dark screen, Silas shrugged.

Regional Conference champion? Wasn't that already in his pocket?

His true goal had long since become becoming a Pokémon Master beyond all other Trainers.

"Alright, Karrablast, starting today we're resuming regular training," Silas said.

"Karrablast!"

Karrablast energetically raised its tiny arm.

"Ralts!"

Ralts hurriedly expressed its determination as well. Alolan Vulpix watched enviously, its barely formed tails swishing across the floor.

"Vulp Vulpix!"

It turned its head toward Silas and cried.

Silas picked it up. "Kids should focus on eating well every day. It's not your time to push yourself yet."

Alolan Vulpix lowered its head in grievance.

Silas gently stroked it.

He knew Alolan Vulpix was already capable of simple training. But countless tragedies had warned Trainers never to force early development.

Training too intensely at a young stage might yield rapid short-term gains, But it would damage the future.

So no matter how much Alolan Vulpix acted cute, Silas would not allow it to join.

Alolan Vulpix blinked its big eyes at its "old father."

"Don't use Baby-Doll Eyes on me," Silas said, lightly tapping it. As one of the few girls on the team, Alolan Vulpix had an extremely lovable personality.

Though she occasionally threw little tantrums.

Like now.

She slipped from Silas's arms and ran to the resting Gigalith, skillfully climbing onto its back to "complain."

For some reason, the quiet Gigalith was the most popular Pokémon among the younger ones. It had been the same with Snivy, Togepi, and Mareep.

And now with Ralts and Alolan Vulpix.

Perhaps its large body gave them a sense of security. Silas smiled indulgently and turned to guide Ralts and Karrablast more carefully.

The other Pokémon were veterans. They could complete their training plans independently.

But these two could not, Especially Ralts.

"Don't lose focus during Calm Mind."

"Ralts…"

Ralts protested internally with eyes closed.

"Then stop moving your feet. Have you ever seen a Psychic-type meditate without full concentration?"

"Ralts!"

"Your feet are moving subconsciously and even crossing. Are you splitting your focus?"

"Ralts…"

In short, not easy to manage.

This was likely a downside of Psychic-types' overly active minds.

They struggled to focus on one thing for long—even something routine like meditation.

It wasn't that Ralts wasn't working hard.

Its body simply wasn't naturally suited to it yet. What it needed to do was overcome instinct.

Meanwhile, Karrablast was unaffected.

It was running laps while carrying a stone several times larger than its body.

This was preparation for its future Escavalier form.

After three continuous days of scanning and analysis, Zero finally produced Karrablast's status panel:

-------

Potential: Elite-tier (Post-enhancement)

Training Plan: Special Bug-type Formula I (Honey + Cheri Berry + Micle Berry in 2:8:1 ratio)

Effects: Relieves muscle fatigue, improves Bug-type energy quality, mildly neutralizes Fire-type energy.

Weighted Training Plan I: Apply special coating to Karrablast's horn and secure a one-meter spherical weight to simulate Escavalier's future body structure.

Note: This Pokémon currently does not take double damage from Fire-type moves. It is predicted that after evolution, its Fire weakness will reduce from 4× to 2×.

---------

In short, it met Silas's expectations.

Although the only moves it had learned outside of normal level-up progression were Scary Face and Screech, this was already an excellent movepool for a first-stage Pokémon that had been living in the wild.

Not to mention, it possessed three Egg Moves and Elite-tier potential.

This was also the first time Zero had added annotations indicating post-birth inheritance and post-enhancement potential growth.

Silas speculated that Team Plasma's experiments had likely strengthened Karrablast in all aspects. While its overall aptitude increased, the genetic moves hidden deep within its body had also been awakened.

That final note, however, made him pause.

This was an epic-level enhancement.

Including the Fairy type, there are a total of eighteen types.

The Bug/Steel combination already makes it so that fully half of all types cannot deal effective damage to Escavalier. Among them, Grass-type moves deal only one-quarter damage, while Poison-type moves deal no damage at all.

Under those circumstances, reducing its former four-times weakness to Fire into merely a two-times weakness would undoubtedly elevate Escavalier's battle performance to an entirely new level.

Silas looked at the diligently training Karrablast.

Not only that, This Karrablast's temperament was that of a natural warrior.

Karrablast, of course, had no idea what Silas was thinking.

It simply felt that what it was doing now was nothing worth mentioning.

This activity called "training" was far less exhausting than the agony it experienced while unconscious, and nowhere near as tiring as surviving in the wild.

Not to mention, After training there were comfortable massages and delicious food waiting.

Karrablast felt this was probably the best life imaginable. And it could clearly sense itself growing stronger bit by bit, That feeling was even more satisfying.

"Karrablast!"

Karrablast paused briefly to catch its breath, encouraged itself, and began running again.

Blaziken glanced over and unconsciously increased the intensity of its own training.

Then Gigalith, Ampharos, Serperior, and Togekiss followed suit.

In the end, even the usually lazy Pidgeot began taking things seriously.

Silas suddenly felt that having one Pokémon that truly loved working hard was a wonderful thing.

Ralts cracked open one eye to sneak a glance, sighed, and muttered internally, Could everyone please stop escalating the competition? It couldn't keep up.

Even so, it immediately shut its eyes again and focused.

Ralts refused to believe that overcoming instinct was something a Psychic-type Pokémon couldn't accomplish.

Silas smiled in satisfaction.

These kids were all working so hard.

Something tugged at his pant leg.

Looking down, he saw Alolan Vulpix had returned. Since Gigalith was training, it naturally couldn't disturb it too much.

"Vulp~"

Alolan Vulpix opened its mouth in a huge yawn. Silas crouched and picked it up.

It comfortably adjusted its position in his arms and closed its eyes.

He gently patted its body.

The fox-like features of Alolan Vulpix softened.

As its small belly rose and fell, white frosty breath escaped its mouth.

In the sweltering summer heat, Silas felt like he was carrying a portable air conditioner.

It fulfilled the dream he had last summer.

Time passed day by day.

There was still no news from Professor Juniper in Unova, but his partners' strength continued to steadily increase.

Following Pidgeot's progress, Blaziken also began touching upon the threshold of Elite-level breakthrough. It happened while practicing its ultimate move, Blast Burn.

This put considerable pressure on Pidgeot.

That little guy from before was nearly surpassing it. So unusually, Pidgeot began training extremely hard.

Its lead in level seemed to be its final pride.

The four veterans behind them continued steadily growing within the high-level range, showing no signs of immediate breakthroughs.

The most obvious changes were, naturally, the two younger ones.

On the sixteenth day after arriving in Goldenrod City, Ralts successfully reached Level 20 and evolved into Kirlia.

It was now a mature young lad—

Though from appearance alone, it looked more like what humans would consider female, it was unmistakably male.

Karrablast hadn't evolved yet, but its strength was vastly different from before.

Beyond its improved physical condition and capabilities, it had mastered five additional moves:

Rest

Protect

Attract

Swords Dance

Energy Ball

These alone put it far beyond ordinary members of its species.

Its energy level of Level 22 spoke volumes about the financial investment poured into its training.

"Oh—right."

There was also Alolan Vulpix.

Just one day away from reaching official maturity, it would finally begin the training it had longed for—

The day after tomorrow.

League Calendar Year 140, June 13.

---

"Snap."

Silas closed his diary.

"Alright, that's enough. Time for bed."

Hearing that, the Pokémon gathered around returned to their rooms.

Silas had taught them how to read human writing, so they were always curious about what their Trainer recorded—

Especially when it contained praise about themselves.

He turned off the lights and prepared to sleep.

Just then, his wrist communicator rang.

Who would be calling at this hour?

Silas frowned.

He carefully stood up to avoid disturbing the sleeping Alolan Vulpix and stepped out onto the balcony.

Seeing the name on the screen, his expression grew serious.

He answered.

"Senior Lance, it's quite late. Is something the matter?"

Lance apologized.

"Sorry to disturb you. But I have an urgent matter I'd like to entrust to you. Do you have time?"

"Please, go ahead."

"It's about the Charicific Valley near Route 32, you know it, right?"

"Yes. Miss Charla's management area."

Lance continued:

"There have been unexplained tremors from the volcano there. I'm currently away and can't make it back in time. Clair has something to handle as well. So I wanted to ask whether you could help."
