Prince of Tennis: Ninja of Tennis

Dr. House's Office.

"What are you all waiting for?" House snapped, still reeling from Adam's verbal smackdown. He glared at his three ducklings staring at him. "The great Dr. Duncan's given his orders—why aren't you moving?"

"Right away!" Cameron took the lead, and the trio hustled out of the office.

"See that?" House chuckled into the phone. "We're the ultimate duo. You should swing by—it'd be a blast."

"Later, Dr. House," Adam said with a light laugh, hanging up.

Did House really not know such a simple trick? Of course he did. Was Adam smarter than him? Not yet, for sure. House had just gotten stuck in a mental rut, while Adam, the outsider, saw it clearly.

Adam was confident that even without him, House would've eventually stumbled onto the solution through some offhand remark. Like that time Foreman used a ham story to bust Wilson's lie, accidentally sparking House's eureka moment about pork tapeworms. House hired his three ducklings—geniuses in their own fields—exactly for those casual comments that unravel his puzzles.

Late Night.

As usual, Adam called Juno before bed.

"…So I totally showed up House—ha!" Adam bragged about his triumph over House earlier.

"That's wild," Juno marveled. "Eight years ago, we were buying that cabin in the woods to practice dissections and get a head start on surgeries. Back then, you were sucking up to Rachel's dad just to get more OR time. Now, eight years later, you've not only done heart surgery for Dr. Green, but you're flexing in front of the legendary Dr. House—the guy even Dr. Green looks up to!"

"Don't forget I trained under the legendary Grey, debating medicine every night," Adam said smugly. "And when no other big-shot doc dared take it on, I stepped up and saved God's Right Hand! 'Adam's Hand' is a name that rings out in the medical world now."

"I've watched a legend rise with my own eyes," Juno laughed. "If we ever go broke, we could write a book and cash in."

"That day's never coming," Adam said confidently.

"True," Juno giggled, thinking of all Adam's contingency plans.

A dead camel's still bigger than a horse, as they say. Real rich folks, if they're smart, can go bankrupt a dozen times and still never run out of cash. Hide a little stash somewhere, and it's enough for a regular person to live on forever. Steady Adam? He's got more backup plans than you can count on one hand.

"Halloween's the day after tomorrow. Got plans?" Juno asked.

"Probably staying at the hospital," Adam hesitated. "You know how it is—Halloween brings out all the weirdos injuring themselves in the dumbest ways. What about you guys?"

"Alright, I get it—you hate holidays," Juno teased. "Don't worry about us. Karen and I are flying to Texas to join Heather and celebrate Tatiana's first Halloween with her."

"Heh," Adam gave an awkward chuckle. "Cool, say hi to Tatiana for me."

With so many good friends, holidays can get tricky—who to hang with, who to skip? Total headache.

"I will," Juno smiled. "I bet Tatiana's gonna have a blast this Halloween~"

"Wait, you're not thinking—?" Adam started, alarmed.

"Relax," Juno laughed. "We've got it covered. What about you, though? What's your real plan?"

"Probably chilling with Paige," Adam mused.

"Which Paige?" Juno asked with a sly grin. "Last year's Marvel-DC showdown is still fresh in my mind. The Paige I know isn't cut out for that chaos!"

"Heh heh," Adam chuckled nervously.

"Got it," Juno said knowingly. "This time, it's full-on FBI: Open the Door, huh?"

"We'll see, we'll see," Adam said with a grin. "If the hospital's swamped, I might not even have time to think about it."

"'These things,' huh?" Juno teased. "You're not plotting to spark a turf war between New York's two big law enforcement crews, are you? That's some evil mastermind vibes!"

"You're getting carried away—I'm not that guy," Adam said, all serious and righteous.

"Heh," Juno just smirked.

They bantered a bit more before hanging up.

Soon enough, Halloween arrived.

Adam wasn't big on most holidays, but Halloween? That was different. It's not a must-celebrate thing, and there's no day off. You can skip it if you want. He could easily stay at the hospital, saving lives, and opt out. But after a long day's work, heading home and running into weirdos or bizarre surprises? That's a little treat in itself.

As Tree-Man Zhou says: Halloween's here—time for everything to turn into a cosplay fest…

Morning.

Adam led the four interns on rounds.

"Dr. Duncan, what do you think?" A patient's daughter, Erin, twirled in front of him as he walked in.

"Mickey Mouse—very cool," Adam said, giving her a nod of approval.

"Thanks!" Erin beamed at him. "Dr. Duncan, don't you doctors celebrate Halloween?"

"No time," Adam said, catching her hint but dodging it—species barriers and all. "We've gotta look after your dad and the other patients."

"Oh, that's such a shame," Erin said, swaying a little, her tiny tail swinging behind her.

Carter's eyes lit up.

"Erin!" her dad cut in, exasperated. "Don't you have work? You're gonna be late. Your students are dying to see you in that getup!"

"Yeah, yeah," Erin checked the time, sighing. "Gotta run. I'll swing by after work to check on… my dad. See you later, Dr. Duncan~"

Adam just smiled noncommittally.

"Carter!" Adam narrowed his eyes at Carter, who was still tracking that swinging tail. "Give me the rundown on the case!"

"Oh, uh!" Carter snapped out of it, flustered under everyone's stares, and fumbled into doctor mode.

Clearly, he was a Disney fanboy.

Rounds wrapped up, and Adam headed to the ER. Halloween meant a busy day there—tons of oddballs with the wildest injuries.

"Knock, knock!" A kid blocked Adam's path as he came downstairs, grinning up at him. "Trick or treat—gimme an ear!"

"What?" Adam laughed, sizing him up. Noticing the hearing aid and deformed ear, he got the gist.

"Kid, you should be looking for Dr. Sloan," Adam said. "Where're your parents?"

"My mom works at a restaurant," the kid explained clearly. "Her job can't cover my surgery. I need a pro bono one. The nurses hate Dr. Sloan, so going straight to him won't work—even if he wants to help, he can't. It's not just him; there's the OR, the lead surgeon, assistants, anesthesiologist, nurses. You're the only one in this hospital who can help me, Dr. Duncan. Think of it as a Halloween gift for a poor kid—please? On my way here, at least three people thought this was my costume…"

"You've done your homework," Adam said, impressed. "Timed it for today on purpose?"

"Yup," the kid grinned slyly. "No one likes random beggars showing up—kids included. Today's the best day to ask. Even if I get turned down, it won't annoy anyone enough to mess with my mom's job."

"You're a clever little gremlin," Adam chuckled. "Alright, I'll help—but you've gotta do me a favor first."

"Deal!" The kid's face lit up.

Adam took him to find Mark Sloan.

"Dr. Sloan, there's a kid here for you," Adam said, tracking down Mark.

"Huh?" Mark blinked.

"Daddy!" The kid stepped out from behind Adam, eyes shining as he gazed at Mark and called out with deep affection.

"What?!" Mark's jaw dropped, his brain buzzing as a flood of hazy figures flashed through his mind.
