Seven years ago, after thousands of years of human pollution, the earth began to go into a state of recovery. In an attempt to heal itself, the earth began to slowly freeze over. Falling into what scientist's deemed a Regenerative Glaciation. In simpler terms, a self healing or self reviving ice age.
Its been seven years since the first stages of that ice age became evident to man, however, we are still unsure how long it went unnoticed. was it years, months, or just a few weeks. Nevertheless, ever since the discovery, scientists have been working to slow down and even stop the ice age in an attempt to prreserve human life. The looked towards the volcanoes at first, but soon discovered that the hotest naturally occurring parts of this world were the first to freeze over. The Freezing first intensified at the equator, with countries closest to it suffering the worst part.
In the year 3026, seven years after the world began to heal itself, a Ugandan ship was heading towards Australia, carrying several loads of cofee, when the ship was push by a gust of water from below, shooting it 16 meters into the air. Fortunately it landed upwarrds when it fell back down, but after doing some research scientists discovered that the oceans were freezing over, but were preserving heat in a certain point of the world just between Kiribati and the Marshall Islands. All the heat in the ocean was basically being pushed into one central region where it would be preserved for what scientist called the awakening, where the earth would begin to slowly unfreeze, leaving room for new life.
Once this discovery was made, Dr. Sanchez and here team made their way to the location. By this time however, the oceans had completely frozen over except the spot where all the heat left in the world was being preserved.
Before the expedition, Dr. Sanchez had asmbled a team of specialists who would assist her with discovering why that spot in particular was the "chosen vault" for all the heat of the world.
Among these specialists, was Dr. Thea, a marine biologist, who was brought in to asses if the movement of the ocean water was in anyway affected by sea life.
On the first day of their research, Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Thea, and the rest of the crew were brought to the location in snow mobiles since traditional ships were unable to move in the frozen ocean. Once they reached, the scientists establised the width of the point, as well as the depth. They discovered that every twenty minutes, the width of the point would grow by ten inches, but despite their best efforts, they could not see the physicall ten centimeter change from the distance they were at. The scientists also intially believed that the water contained at the "chosen vault " was still boilling water. However, after more research they discovered that the water was cool and the water at the surface level was still, but it was only a thin layer. There was a layer underneath the surface layer that was like the eye of a tornado. It was void of water and was like a ten meter drop to the ocean floor.
After this discovery, Sanchez, Thea, and the rest of the team decided that the would make the same journry the next day with the appropriate equipment to continue the research.
So, the very next day, when the team arrrived at the location, they set up a 16 meter pulley system that would lower, Thea to the bottom of the ocean floor to potentially discover what was causing the heat to gravitate towards that specific point. And there would be much to discover, seeing as the width of the point was 241,551 square kilometers.
After over five hours of preparation, Thea finally made her descent at 11:23p.m. She descended for 20 minutes before she reached the floor. The sand at the floor felt extremely warm, even trough her heavy duty boots.
As Thea, made her way around the floor, she noticed that after ever 59 inches, there was a slight sizziling sound. Thea took out her walkie-talkie to report the sound, but before she had the chance to do so, the sand beneath her feet began to sink. Thea began to panic but, attempted to move her feet, and walk towards the pulley, However, before she could reach, the ground gave way under Thea and she was pulled under, loosing her conscience.
After an hour, Thea woke up to the sound ofa loud horn. When she opened her eyes, she saw a bright glowing light coming from the sky. When she sat up, and her vision fully cleared, she realized it was the sun. Thea gasped and clasped her hand on her mouth. It had to be a miracle. The sun hadn't shone in seven years, ever since the beginning of the ice age. As tears fell down her cheeck, Thea felt a tap on her shoulder. When she looked back to see what tapped her, She saw a tall wall of water. Thea got up and approched the wall. Once she placed her hand on it, the wall took a hold of it, and began pulling her into it. Thea screammed and attempted to remove her hand from the wall but nothing seemed to work. After only ten minutes of attempted to free herself, Thea had been full encapsulated in a bubble, floating through the water which seemed to carry her throuh the sky. As Thea traveled in the bubble, she witnessed larged cities that were fully powere by water and heat.
When Thea eventually stopped, she found herself back on dry land standing infront of a large door. When she opened it, she found herslf in a large hall, filled with people of different races and ethnicities. When she aproached a stranger and attempted to communicate with them, she noticed that the stranger, as well asssss the people passing by were dressed in large drapping pieces of cloth that coverrd them from head to toe. Both men and women wore uniform outfits that were colored in hues of blue and gold. When she approached the stranger, he shivered, then quickly walked away from her. This happened seven times before she approached a woman dressed in one of the white garments. Before she could speak, the woman grabbed Thea, and led her to a large map, where, rather than a traditional picture of the world, there was on large piece of land with a depictioon of water above the land rather than below it.
"Why is this map... why does this map look like this? Why.." Before Thea could say another word. the woman pressed her finger on Thea's lips in an attempt to silence her. She then led Thea towards a large window, overlooking other buildings of the city. The buildings were iridescent hues of purple, pink and cyan, and the surrounding them was what seemed to be a hill range. However, as Thea looked closer, she noticed that they were not hills but rather, volcanoes. Before she could react, the woman inmfront of her handed her a paer and pe, the first normal thing she had seen since landing in that place. On paper the woman had written this message. "Welcome to the city of Rano. I will explain the nature of this place in the future but for now you must know that it is not safe for you here. In this land we are not permitted to speak, as in our culture, silence is seen as a form of conservation of heat. It is heat that has preserved our city for millions of years. Even before your people cultivated themselves above our sky. You must leave this place and ensure thhat no oother man evre come back. In Two days, the volcanoes surrounding our city will come to life, burrying us under volcanic rock for 750,000 years. During these years, our sky will frezeeze over. pulling heat towards our city, allowing us to rest.
Thea scratched her head the also began to write. As she did shenoticed that she was not writingg in english, but rather in a language that she had never hearrd off or seen before. despite this, Thea understood it, so she continued to write until she finished and handed it to the woman. The writing read, "Thank you for you welcome. However, I have reason to believe that your city is drain all the heat from my world which exists above your skey and..." Before the woman could finish reading, she dropped the paper and pen on the floor and the woman rushed towards the window. Then she beagn to shake, with what Thea at first assumed to be fear, but when the woman turned to her, was reveaked to be anger through her sharp dark eyes.. Then the wiman cried out in perfect english. "You destroy the surface then come looking for the answer with my people? Your reople are mad. You have driven both our worlds to disorder!" Then the woman led Thea to a capsule shaped tube and pusher her in.
As thea was carried upwards, she pushed a large button that xaused the world to shake. As Thea floated above the city she witnessed the citzens abandone all that they were doing a flee towards the hall.. The the volcanoes began to errupt one by one. Eventually, Thea reacheda pont were she was no loger beingg carried by water, and wwas now being pushed upwards through thick layers of sand. When THea reAached the ocean floor again, the capsluse slowly dissolved, laying her on the san soflty. The sand was no longer hot, a there were icycles forming on the sand. Then Thea heard a gush a looked around her. Sh noticed that the point where she stood had began to fill up with water that would then immediately freeze when it made contact with the sand. Thea rushed toward the pulley abnd tagged on it, signaling those above her to pull her up, however her response went unanswered. After an hour, Thea lay on the ocean floor, complteley frozen, wwith her fellow team members and humaan beings suffering the same fate on the earth's surface,
