Kayla stared up at her bedroom ceiling, wondering if it would be the last time she ever saw the tiny glow-in-the-dark stickers that adorned her ceiling's surface. She wiped the tears off her cheek and sat up. She lifted her glasses off her bedside table and put them on. The thick lenses distorted her eyes, causing them to seem much smaller than they actually were. Kayla put on her slippers and walked towards her desk. She plopped onto her chair and lifted her favourite book. She placed it back on her desk and opened it. However, despite her thick lenses, Kayla couldn't make out the words. She slammed the book closed and began to sob into her hands.
A month ago, Kayla began to lose her sight. Images that were once clear began to appear blurry and distorted. Once she brought the issue up to her mother, her mother took her to see a doctor who diagnosed her with Veritas Obscuro. A condition that would slowly cause Kayla to lose her ability to see objects in full detail.
Since her diagnosis, Kayla had undergone several treatments, in an attempt to fix her condition but they had all been unsucessful. Now, all that she had left to show for it, were a pair of heavy machinery glasses that didn't help her in any way. It had been a month since she saw the cover of her favourite book in full detail, let alone been able to read a page in it. Despite Kayla's vigorous efforts to improve her vision through various home remedies and weird eye exercises, Kayla continued to lose her windows to reality.
Kayla stood up and extended her arm foward and shifted it around to look for a space in her shelf to place her book. After she found a spot for it, Kayla made her way towards her bed, dragging her feet as she walked. Kayla jumped onto her bed and rolled onto her back. As she stared at her ceiling once again, Kayla tried to make out the different shapes of the stickers that cover her ceiling, but after ten minutes with no success, she rolled onto her side and closed her eyes, slowly drifting to sleep.
The next morning Kayla awoke to the sound of her older sister knocking on her door. Kayla rubbed her eyes, and used her hands to feel around for her glasses. Once she found them, Kayla quicklt placed them on and sluggisly made her way to her door where her sister was now practically banging down the door. She open the door and her sister came tumbling into her room. Kayla's sister May, reached out her arm towards Kayla, asking Kayla to help her up, but Kayla rubbed her own back and turned away to walk towards her bed. May got herself back onto her feet, dusted off her pants, and sneered at Kayla. She then walked towards Kayla and began to shake her. "Mom said you should get up, you have an appointment at 12." Kayla gave her a thumbs up and gestured for her to leave her room.
Once May left, Kayla's mother entered her room with a laundry basket. "Kayla, give me you dirt clothes, I need to have them washed today, before the laundry room is overly crowded. " Kayla's mother moved around her daughter's room picking clothes up as she kicked aside random clutter that sat on the floor. As she did saw, she noticed a small object glowing from beneath her daughters bed. She bent down, pressing her body onto the floor and picked it up. It was a glow-in-the-dark sticker. Kayla's mother stood up, dusted off her clothes, loooked at the sticker in her hand, then looked up at Kayla's ceiling. "Hmm, she placed her hands on her hips, "What happened to the stickers on your ceiling? Did you get too old for them?" Kayla's eyes widened, then she rolled onto her back to face her ceiling.
Suddenly, Kayla was no longer in her room. She found herself standing infront of a train track, her vision fully restored. Suddenly, a train came speeding towards her, with no sign of stopping. As Kayla braced for impact, the train suddenly grew blurry, becoming a distorted shape, and passed right through her.
"Kayla! Kayla!" Kayla's mother shouted as she shook her back to reality, "what's wrong? You weren't responding to me for over five minutes. I think we should also get your head checked when the doctor checks on your eyes." Kayla's mother giggled, lifted the basket of dirty laudry, and left the room. Kayla sat up on her bed, and steadied her breathing. She slighty shook her body then got off her bed and began to get ready.
After an hour, Kayla had finally finished getting ready, so she made her way to the car, where her mother and sister were waiting for her. On the drive to the doctor's office, Kayla noticed multiple cars parked along the sides of the road. When they reached the train station that was right next to the doctor's office, Kayla noticed that their route had been closed off, and an officer was standing guard near the train station's entrance. As Kayla's mother, made her way to an intersection where she could make a turn to another route, an officer stopped her and made his way towards her car. "Hello offficer, what seems to be the problem?" Kayla's mother spoke up with a tone of concern in her voice.
" The officer furrowed his brows, "This area has been closed off due to a erm..." the officer slightly hesitated, "missing train."
The concern on Kayla's mothers Face immediately disappeared and a laugh escaped her lips. However the officer did not laugh. Kayla then felt her breathing grow quicker, and she found herself floating above the clouds. Kayla began to scream as her body began to fall towards the earth at a tremendous speed. Then, suddenly, her body stood still infront of the Eiffel Tower. It appeared to Kayal, clearly, before it grew blurry and people on the tower began to drop to the ground as though it had disappeared into thin air. Then her body began to move at moghty speeds once again, smd every where she went, once she gazed at and object, it grew blurry and seemed to others around her, as though it had simply dissappeared. In Dubai it was the Burj Khalifa, that she had caused to disappear from existence, In Eygpt it was the Pyramid of Khafre, and in Italy, it was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Everywhere Kayla went, her vision seemed to shift and destroy the realm of reality. Kayla's body was then carried into space where she could see the whole planet before her. Then it began to grow blurry. Kayal realized that as she looked at the planet, she cause it to grow blurry, in turn destroying it, and all those that inhabited it. Kayla then realized that she was killing her mother and sister who were probably wondering where she had gone. Kayla shut her eyes, in an attempt to stop her destruction, but it could not be helped. Earth had been destroyed and Kayla was responsible for the death of over 8 billion human beings.
As she floated through space, tears filled her eyes. She was now alone. After a while, Kayla's body landed on the moon where she began to hear her mother's voice. Kayla then felt her body being violently pulled back onto the earth, where she found herself back in her mother's car, in the parking lot of the doctor's office. Kayal extended her hands infront of her, and a single tear run down her cheek. "Mom. I cant see. Evrything's dark." Kayala then burst into tears as her mother run to get the doctor, while May comforted her.
