Chapter 545: Galactic Battle Aftermath
~Third POV~
[Sinnoh Region, Later, Mt. Coronet – Spear Pillar]
The air at the summit of Mt. Coronet didn't just feel cold; it felt thin, brittle, as if the very fabric of reality had been stretched to its breaking point and was only now beginning to snap back into place.
The silence that followed the cacophony of war was deafening. Moments ago, the sky had been clear and sunny, but now, only the drifting soot of pulverized stone and the fading glow of celestial fire remained.
Spear Pillar, the ancient cradle of Sinnoh's creation, was a graveyard of pillars. Massive chunks of white marble, etched with runes older than recorded history, lay scattered like discarded toys. In the center of the devastation stood Cynthia, the Champion of Sinnoh. Her long blonde hair whipped around her face in the biting wind, her black coat billowing like a shadow. Beside her, his breathing heavy but rhythmic, stood Azure.
His partner Pikachu sat perched on his shoulder, sparks still dancing along its cheeks, while an Eevee nestled firmly in his messy hair. Tucked into the crook of his tactical jacket, a small Pichu (Mew) peered out with wide, curious eyes.
At their feet lay the broken form of Cyrus. The leader of Team Galactic, the man who had sought to unmake the universe and forge a world without spirit, was finally silent. He hadn't been defeated by a simple tackle or a beam of light.
He had been crushed by the literal weight of the heavens.
*CRACK-BOOM*
The structural integrity of a nearby archway finally gave out, slamming into the frosted ground. Azure murmured, his voice sounding hollow in the vast expanse over the ruins of Spear Pillar, "It's finally over, huh…"
He looked toward the destroyed scene, then his gaze fixed on the horizon. Cynthia stepped forward, her Garchomp standing protectively behind her. The Great Dragon's scales were scuffed, but its eyes remained sharp.
She said calmly, her voice carrying the regal authority that had made her a legend, "The Red Chain is shattered. The legends are free."
Indeed, the terrifying silhouettes of the Three Clouds—Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus—had vanished into the atmosphere the moment Cyrus's control snapped. But they hadn't left without a cost.
Azure called out, "Blissey, Soft-Boiled! Now!"
*POP*
From a flash of red light, his Blissey appeared, her face a mask of maternal urgency. She immediately scurried toward a pile of rubble where several figures lay sprawled. Azure hurried after her, helping Cynthia move the unconscious bodies.
It was a grim sight.
Fantina's dress was torn; Crasher Wake's mask was cracked down the middle; Gardenia, Roark, Byron, and Volkner were all out cold, their bodies battered by the elemental tornado the genies had unleashed at the start of the fray. Flint, the Elite Four's fire specialist, lay nearby, his signature afro singed and his breathing shallow.
Azure noted, his brow furrowed as he helped Blissey prop Byron against a fallen slab of stone, "They took the brunt of the initial storm. If they hadn't jumped in to buy us time, we wouldn't have been able to set the trap."
Cynthia knelt beside Flint, checking his pulse, saying calmly, "They did their duty as protectors of Sinnoh. Now, we do ours."
As Blissey began chanting a melodic, healing rhythm, "Lul-la-luuuu…"
Azure looked over at Cynthia. His mind flashed back to the climax of the battle. He had expected her Garchomp and Lucario, but the appearance of a fourth member of the Forces of Nature had caught even him off guard.
Azure said curiously, wiping a smudge of soot from his forehead, "Cynthia. I've traveled across Kanto, Alola, Johto, and Hoenn... I've seen things most people think are myths. But Enamorus? When did you encounter the Herald of Spring?"
Cynthia offered a small, weary smile as she adjusted Fantina's position. She replied fondly, "You remember when you suggested I take a trip to the Alola region? To 'unwind' after our last match?"
Azure chuckled. He nodded his head, responding, "I remember. I told you the Malasadas were worth the flight alone."
She conceded with a fond grin on her face, continuing to explain, "They were. But while I was there, exploring the lush jungles of Akala Island, I encountered her. She wasn't like the others—not destructive or chaotic. She seemed... lonely. We spent a week together. She didn't want a battle; she wanted a companion who understood the weight of being a guardian. She chose to follow me back to Sinnoh. I suppose she sensed the coming winter Team Galactic intended to bring."
Azure nodded, impressed, muttering, "Guess my advice wasn't so bad after all."
*WHIRRRRRRR*
*THUMP—THUMP—THUMP*
The heavy, rhythmic thrumming of high-powered rotors cut through the wind. Azure and Cynthia looked up. Breaking through the layer of clouds surrounding the peak was a massive, sleek airship bearing the insignia of the International Police.
Trailing behind the vessel were several flying silhouettes. A voice cried out from above, "Look! It's them!"
*FWP*
Green, Azure's girlfriend and an elite operative in her own right, descended gracefully atop the majestic, flaming wings of Moltres. Following her were the three young Dex Holders Azure had mentored: Platinum on her elegant Altaria, Diamond (Dia) on his sturdy Tropius, Branch, and Pearl riding his Dragonair, Ryu.
As they touched down on the uneven terrain, the trio of younger trainers scrambled off their mounts, their eyes widening as they took in the scale of the destruction. Pearl whispered, his usual boisterous energy replaced by pure shock, "Mother of Arceus…"
He looked at the shattered pillars, some of which were glowing with a strange, lingering violet radiation. Pearl couldn't help but ask in a stunned tone, "Azure… Cynthia… what happened here?"
Diamond asked curiously, his hand instinctively reaching for a rice ball in his pocket—a nervous habit—before stopping as he saw the unconscious states of the Gym Leaders, "Did… did a meteor hit this place?"
Green slid off Moltres and ran straight to Azure, pulling him into a brief, fierce embrace before checking him for injuries as she muttered, "You're alive. You're alive! Looker was losing his mind on the comms when the energy readings spiked."
Azure rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, gesturing to the ruins of Spear Pillar. Azure helplessly said, "Yeah, about that… I might've gone a little overboard. Cyrus had the genies, and then he tried to force a rift. I had to have Regigigas and the others hold the line. Things got… decorative...?"
Green echoed, looking at a crater that was at least fifty feet deep, "Decorative?! Azure, you leveled the most sacred site in the region!"
Cynthia walked over, her presence calming the group's rising, frantic energy. She explained to them, "He did what was necessary, Green. If Azure hadn't deployed the Regi Trio to hold off the Forces of Nature, there wouldn't be a Mt. Coronet left to stand on. Or a Sinnoh, for that matter, if Cyrus succeeded."
Azure's Gengar suddenly materialized from his shadow, its glowing red eyes scanning the area. Gengar spoke, her voice a raspy, ethereal trill that vibrated in the air, "Veeeery messy. The air tastes like burnt static. Gross."
A robotic, digital voice flickered from Azure's pocket, "I agree."
A Rotom popped out of Azure's Arc Phone, zipping around the ruins, and added, "Structural integrity at 12%! Historical value: Zero! Survival rate: 100%! Data suggests Azure is a walking natural disaster!"
Azure grumbled, though there was no heat in it, "Hey, watch it, you two."
The Interpol airship finished its descent, extending a heavy-duty gangplank. A swarm of agents in tactical gear poured out, led by a man in a rumpled brown trench coat. Looker looked like he hadn't slept in three weeks.
Looker shouted, his eyes darting between the legendary Pokémon still standing guard and the broken man on the ground, "Status report!"
He stopped dead when he saw Cyrus muttering, "Is that…?"
Azure confirmed bluntly, "Cyrus."
Looker knelt beside the Galactic leader, seeing the bruises and the sheer state of shock the man was in. He couldn't help but exclaim in shock, "Good heavens. What hit him? It looks like a falling moon struck him."
Azure cleared his throat, glancing at Cynthia. He replied, "A stray meteor. From Cynthia's Garchomp's Draco Meteor. Right to the face. He didn't see it coming."
Looker blinked, looking at the Champion's Garchomp—a creature capable of shattering mountains—and then back to the puny human as he muttered, "To the face? And he's still breathing? Truly, the human spirit is a resilient thing, even when it is twisted."
He waved his agents over, barking out orders in a stern tone, "Secure him! Heavy dampeners on his pockets—I don't care if he only has a Magikarp left; he is not to touch a Poké Ball!"
As the agents hauled Cyrus away, Nurse Joy and several Chansey rushed off the ship with stretchers. They moved with practiced efficiency, guided by Azure's Blissey toward the fallen Gym Leaders.
Cynthia informed the medical team, "Flint is the most stable. Volkner and Byron took the heaviest hits from the tornado. Please, prioritize them."
As the wounded were moved toward the airship's medical bay, Azure turned to Looker, a small, playful smirk tugging at his lips as he asked, "So, Looker. We saved the world. Again. I hope the International Police budget has room for a 'trouble fee.' This jacket is brand new, and it's covered in ancient deity dust."
Looker paused, looking at the devastation, then at the group of teenagers who had done the impossible. He let out a long, weary sigh, responding, "If it were up to me, I'd give you the keys to the headquarters. But for now, I suspect the Sinnoh League will have something much more substantial in mind."
Cynthia stepped up, placing a hand on Azure's shoulder as she answered his question, "He will be rewarded, Looker. I'll see to it personally. Not just Azure, but also Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl. They stood their ground when their region needed them. That kind of courage is the foundation of our region."
The three Sinnoh Dex Holders, who had been standing in hushed awe, finally seemed to breathe.
Dia asked, looking at Pearl, "We did it?"
Pearl said, though his voice cracked, "We did it!"
Platinum, however, remained silent. She was looking at the jagged peak of the mountain, her eyes searching for something amidst the rubble. She looked down at her hands, which were trembling slightly.
Azure noticed. He walked over to her, his Pikachu nuzzling her cheek to offer comfort. He said calmly, "Hey. We're at the summit, Platinum."
She looked up at him, her noble composure momentarily flickering. She muttered, "The summit… yes. But it's… It's all gone, isn't it? The tradition… the crest…"
Azure smiled softly as he reminded her with a fond smile, "The mountain didn't go anywhere. And the materials you need? They aren't in some fancy temple. They're part of the mountain itself."
He reached down into a fresh crater and pulled out a jagged, shimmering shard of Star Piece, along with a fragment of ancient, pressurized coal, as he explained to Platinum, "The Berlitz family tradition says you must gather the materials here, at the peak. It doesn't say the peak has to be pretty."
Diamond and Pearl caught on immediately. Dia said happily, digging through a pile of rocks, "Yeah! Look, I found some Everest-grade flint!"
Pearl added happily, scavenging with newfound energy, "And I've got some crystal-clear ice quartz!"
Platinum watched them, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face. Controlled and elegant as ever, she knelt and gathered a final piece of obsidian from the edge of the Spear Pillar's remains.
With the help of her Pokémon—her Empoleon providing the water to wash the stones and her Rapidash providing the heat to settle them—she began the ritual. During the ruins of a battlefield that had nearly ended the world, the three friends worked together.
Within an hour, the new Berlitz crest was complete—a beautiful, rugged piece of jewelry that shone with the light of the setting sun. She whispered, "It's perfect."
Green shouted, holding up a camera, "Group photo! C'mon, everyone! Even you, Looker! Smile like you didn't almost die!"
*Click—FLASH*
They gathered—Azure in the center with Green, Cynthia standing tall behind them, the three Dex Holders holding up the new crest, and even the Pokémon crowding in. The flash went off, capturing a moment of pure, unadulterated relief.
Looker called, gesturing with his arms to move the group into Interpol's Airship, "Alright, move it out! The winds are picking up, and we need to get these Gym Leaders to a proper hospital in Veilstone!"
With that, the group followed inside the Interpol Airship…

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Interpol Airship]
The group filed onto the massive Interpol airship. The interior was a hive of activity, but Azure found a quiet spot by a window, watching the ruins of Spear Pillar shrink as the ship rose into the air.
He felt a presence beside him. It was Cynthia.
She was looking at the unconscious form of Volkner, who was being monitored by a heart-rate sensor nearby. She said softly, "He's going to be okay. But it will take time. Weeks, perhaps months, of recovery."
Azure sighed, leaning his head against the glass as he muttered, "There goes my eighth badge. I was really looking forward to that battle. Volkner's the only one left who could've given my Electivire a real workout."
Cynthia turned to him, her eyes sparkling with a familiar challenge. She suggested, "If it's a workout you're looking for, Azure, I might have a suggestion for how to spend your time while Volkner heals."
Azure raised an eyebrow. He replied curiously, "I'm listening."
Cynthia grinned lightly as she answered softly, "Have you heard of the Battle Zone? To the northeast of the mainland?"
Azure's eyebrow raised slightly responding, "The Battle Frontier?"
Cynthia nodded as she explained to him, "Precisely. The Elite Four and I often go there when the League becomes… quiet. The Frontier Brains are trainers who rival Champions in their specialization. If you truly want to hone your skills and prepare for the day you challenge the Hall of Fame here in Sinnoh, there is no better forge."
Azure looked back out at the horizon. The Battle Frontier. He had conquered it in the Hoenn Region, but he knew the Sinnoh Frontier was a different beast entirely.
Azure whispered, a grin slowly spreading across his face, "The Battle Frontier, huh?"
Gengar's voice echoed from his shadow, "Ooooh, more fighting! Can I eat the dreams of the Brains? They sound delicious!"
Rotom chirped excitedly from his Arc Phone with a mischievous grin, "Scanning for Battle Frontier coordinates! Warning: Difficulty levels are set to 'Ludicrous'! Azure's win-rate potential: 99.9%! Let's go!"
Azure looked at Green, who was walking over with two cups of hot cocoa. She saw the look on his face and sighed, though she was smiling. She asked knowingly, "You're already planning the next trip, aren't you?"
Azure replied with a sly grin, taking the cup, "Can you blame me? The world is big, Green. And I think I've spent enough time on top of this mountain for one day."
As the airship sailed through the clouds, leaving the jagged, broken peak of Mt. Coronet behind, the tension of the day finally began to dissolve. Team Galactic was gone, their leader in chains, and the legendary dragons were back in their respective realms.
For Azure, the journey was far from over. But as he looked at his friends, his Pokémon, and the girl by his side, he knew that no matter what Frontier lay ahead, he was ready. The sky above Sinnoh had never looked clearer.

The hum of the airship's engines served as a lullaby for the exhausted heroes. In the medical bay, the rhythmic beeping of monitors blended with the soft snores of Diamond, who had fallen asleep with a half-eaten sandwich in his hand.
Pearl was busy recounting the battle to a captive audience of two Interpol agents, while Platinum sat by the Gym Leaders, her new crest pinned proudly to her scarf. Azure sat with Green, his hand in hers, watching the first stars of the evening pierce through the deepening blue of the atmosphere.
Green asked quietly, "You think we'll ever have a normal week?"
Azure looked at his partners and finally at his shadow, where a talking Gengar resided. Azure laughed softly, "In this world? Not a chance."
And as the ship disappeared into the twilight, the Sinnoh region slept in peace for the first time in a long, long time. The threat of the New World was gone, replaced by the promise of the next challenge.
The Sinnoh Battle Frontier was waiting.
