Zoe's POV:
Garrett didn't look surprised. That was the first thing I noticed through my tears. Not panic. Not confusion. Not shock. Just… realization.
My crying slowed for a moment as I stared at him. Mascara blurred my vision, but I still saw it: that look on his face, like he had been expecting this all along.
My brows knitted together slowly. "You knew?"
Garrett's silence answered before his mouth ever did. Suddenly, my chest tightened again. I stepped back from him slightly. "You knew?" I repeated, this time louder.
He sighed heavily and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Yes, Zo."
The words landed like another betrayal. My face twisted in disbelief. "How?"
Then realization slammed into me mid-thought, and I froze. "Wait…" My eyes widened. "Was that what you wanted to tell me earlier?"
Garrett nodded slowly. "Yes."
Pain surged through me again. "Oh my God…"
