Time passed slowly I felt like I was dying.
Not physically.
But even worse.
The suspense was killing me one heartbeat at a time. And I didn't know what to do.
Garrett had left nearly twenty minutes ago—maybe thirty. To join the chaos outside.
I honestly didn't know anything anymore.
Time itself felt strange as anxiety sat inside my chest. Unmoving.
Minutes felt like hours.
Seconds stretched until they became torture.
The hotel room had gone painfully quiet after he left.
Too quiet.
The kind of quiet that made every little sound unbearable.
The air conditioner hummed softly above us.
Cars occasionally passed outside beyond the large glass windows.
Somewhere down the hallway a door shut.
Far away, muted voices echoed.
Life was still moving outside.
Still normal.
But inside this room?
Inside me?
Everything felt frozen. Like time stopped.
I sat at the edge of Garrett's bed with my fingers tangled together so tightly my knuckles had turned pale.
