~Aaron's POV
I ended the call and placed the phone slowly on the table. For a moment, I simply sat there in silence while staring at the wall in front of me. My mind kept returning to the same images again and again.
The twins.
Their faces appeared clearly in my thoughts, and the more I remembered them, the harder it became to push the feeling away. I stood up from the chair after a while and walked toward the bed. My body felt tired, but my mind was still restless.
I sat down on the edge of the bed while thinking about everything that had happened that day.
Katherine.
The children.
The strange resemblance that refused to leave my mind.
So many questions were moving inside my head, yet none of them had answers.
After some time, I finally leaned back on the bed and closed my eyes, hoping that sleep would quiet my thoughts for a while. It took longer than usual, but eventually the tiredness won, and I slowly drifted into sleep.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing beside the bed. I reached over and turned it off before slowly sitting up.
For a few seconds, I remained still while trying to wake up completely. Then I got out of bed and went through my usual morning routine.
I took a quick shower, dressed in a dark suit, and adjusted my tie in the mirror.
Once I was ready, I walked out of my room and headed toward the dining area.
Amanda was already there.
She was sitting at the table with her breakfast in front of her, and she looked completely prepared for the day.
The moment she noticed me walking in, her face brightened with a sweet smile.
"Good morning, sweetheart," she said in a soft, romantic voice.
She tilted her head slightly while looking at me.
"Did you sleep well, darling?"
"Well, I had a beautiful night," She added.
Her tone sounded overly affectionate, and it immediately irritated me.
I stared at her coldly for a moment before pulling out a chair and sitting down at the table.
I did not respond to the names she was calling me.
Instead, I focused on the breakfast placed in front of me and began eating quietly.
Amanda continued smiling as if my silence did not bother her at all.
After a moment, she spoke again.
"I will be going to the office with you today," she said casually.
I looked up briefly before nodding once.
"Fine," I replied simply.
After we finished eating, we both walked outside, where my car was already waiting.
The driver opened the door, and we both got in before the car started moving toward Mathew's company.
The ride there was quiet.
Amanda looked out of the window while occasionally checking her phone, and I remained silent while my mind slowly prepared for the meeting ahead.
When we finally arrived at the building, we stepped out of the car and walked toward the entrance.
The staff greeted us politely as we passed through the lobby.
We were heading toward the elevator that would take us to Mathew's office when something caught my attention.
As we passed by the conference room, I noticed someone standing inside.
Katherine.
She was speaking with several staff members, and from the way she was explaining something, it looked like she was guiding them through a project discussion.
Her face looked calm and confident, and she moved with an energy that filled the room.
She looked so alive.
I stopped walking for a moment while watching her through the glass.
For a few seconds, I simply stood there without moving.
Then Amanda's voice pulled me back to reality.
"Did you forget something?" she asked while looking at me with curiosity.
I looked away from the conference room immediately.
"No," I said shortly.
Without saying anything else, I continued walking toward the elevator.
Amanda followed behind me, and soon we reached the floor where Mathew's office was located.
When we entered the office, Mathew stood up from his chair to greet us.
We shook hands briefly and exchanged polite greetings before sitting down.
Once we were settled, I began discussing the purpose of the meeting.
"I have reviewed the proposal you sent," I said calmly. "The company has potential, and I am interested in investing."
Mathew nodded while listening carefully.
"I would like to discuss the exact amount of investment," I continued. "And I also need more clarity on some parts of the agreement before we move forward."
We continued discussing the numbers for a while, and Mathew explained some parts of the proposal while pointing at a few documents on the table. I listened carefully, but there were still some things that were not completely clear to me.
After a moment, I leaned back slightly in my chair.
"Will Katherine be done any time soon?" I asked calmly. "Some of the questions I have are related to the project she is handling."
Mathew nodded immediately.
"I already sent her a message," he replied. "She should be here soon."
I gave a small nod.
"Thank you," I said.
For the next few minutes, the room became quiet again while Mathew arranged some files, and Amanda casually looked around the office as if she was studying the place.
Then suddenly she spoke.
"Mathew," she said with a light smile, "are you and Katherine involved?"
The question came so unexpectedly that it made the room feel tense for a moment.
I slowly turned my head and looked at Amanda with clear displeasure.
"Why would you ask something like that?" I said coldly.
Amanda shrugged slightly as if the question was harmless.
"I was just curious," she said casually. "The two of you seem very comfortable with each other, and to be honest, you and Katherine look like a perfect match."
Her words made something inside me tighten, although I tried not to show it on my face.
For a brief moment, I told myself that the answer should not matter to me.
Yet deep down, I realized that I wanted to know the truth.
So I turned my eyes toward Mathew and waited silently for his response.
Mathew looked slightly surprised by the question, but he opened his mouth as if he was about to reply.
However, before he could say anything, the office door suddenly opened.
Katherine walked in.
For a moment, the entire room seemed to pause.
She looked different from the last time I saw her in the conference room, and somehow even more beautiful. Her hair fell neatly around her shoulders, and the calm confidence in her expression made it difficult to look away.
I did not even realize that I was staring at her.
My eyes simply remained fixed on her as she walked further into the room.
For those few seconds, the conversation we had been having completely disappeared from my mind.
I only became aware of it when Amanda suddenly nudged my arm lightly.
"Aaron," she said quietly, clearly trying to get my attention.
That was when I realized that I had been staring at Katherine the entire time.
