I could feel the anger building in the pit of my stomach. My head snapped to the side, and for a second, all I could feel was the burn of her hand and the shock that accompanied it.


"What….why did you just do that?" I managed to gasp, pressing my hand to my cheek, my voice shaking with disbelief and anger.


Amanda's eyes blazed with fury, and she leaned in closer, her voice low and harsh. "Why are you following my husband around?" she spat. "And now you're pretending….pretending that you have two kids for him! Two kids!"


I opened my mouth to respond, to tell her that she was completely out of line, but she cut me off before I could form a word. "Shut up!" she yelled, her voice echoing against the walls of the office hallway.
