The days after that didn't slow down the way I thought they would.
If anything, they picked up differently, not rushed exactly, but full. There was always something to do, something to check, something to talk about, and somehow we kept moving through it without it feeling like pressure.
Mornings started earlier than usual because of the twins, and I got used to the sound of their voices before I even opened my eyes. Sometimes they argued over the smallest things, sometimes they just laughed about nothing, and either way, it filled the house in a way that made it hard to stay annoyed for long.
Katherine settled into it as if she had always been there, like this was her space, and she knew exactly how to hold everything together without making it look like work. I watched her a lot during those days, not in an obvious way, just… noticing things.
The way she moved around the kitchen without thinking.
The way she stopped mid-step if one of the twins called her name.
