The music faded, and the applause from the couple's dance was still echoing in my ears when the officiator's voice rang out, calm and warm. "Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time for the presentation of gifts. We begin with the husband, Aaron."
I felt a flutter in my stomach as I looked at him. My eyes met his, and I could see the quiet mischief there, the excitement, and the love he always carried so naturally. He gave me that small, teasing smile he had when he was about to do something utterly impossible to predict, and my pulse quickened.
He stepped forward, walking slowly toward me, his eyes never leaving mine. I noticed the soft gleam in the light bouncing off his suit, the careful confidence in the way he moved. And then I saw it, the car keys in his hand.
I froze for a moment, disbelief catching my throat. "Aaron…" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
