Serra smiled slightly, as if appreciating Kaya's directness. "Yes. There's more." She carefully lowered her pack to the ground, showing her hands were still empty. "I want to join you."
Kaya blinked. Of all the things she'd expected, that wasn't one of them. "Join me? You don't even know what we're doing."
"No, but I know what you represent." Serra's amber eyes were intense. "Change. Disruption. A challenge to the established order." She paused. "I've been alone in these mountains for two years, ever since my pack cast me out for questioning our alpha's decisions. Two years of solitude, of hiding, of surviving but not living."
