After learning about the Seven Chakras, Kahn officially began his cultivation. Alongside practicing Spiritbending techniques, he focused on tempering his mind.
While mastering application techniques went smoothly, cultivating his mind proved torturous.
Opening the Seven Chakras deeply affects one's mind. Once begun, it cannot be easily stopped. One must be fully prepared before attempting it.
Preparation meant constantly confronting one's inner demons—a painful process.
Inner demons persist precisely because people avoid facing them. Reconciling with them is no easy feat.
Fortunately, Kahn's relatively open-minded personality worked in his favor.
He faced problems directly, admitted his mistakes, and accepted his flaws. These traits made him far more capable than most.
During cultivation, Kahn recalled many past events: his anger when learning Zuko was injured and banished, his guilt for unknowingly putting Kou Li in danger, and his fear of his transmigration identity being exposed.
Some of these he could now laugh off, some he could face normally, but some still unsettled him.
He realized that self-reflection alone could not solve many of these issues; truly resolving them would ultimately require returning to reality.
Despite the difficulty, Guru Pathik considered him quite enlightened.
"Air Nomads are naturally the most suitable for Spiritbending," he explained.
"Other Fire Lords tend to have personality traits that can hinder cultivation, with Fire Lords being the most prominent example."
Air is the element of freedom.
Air Nomads are detached from worldly affairs, pursuing tranquility and spiritual harmony—a personality well-aligned with Spiritbending.
Fire, on the other hand, is the element of energy, giving people drive to achieve their ideals and desires. Fire Lords are often energetic, goal-oriented, and highly capable.
Yet they can also be impatient, stubborn, and resistant to change—traits that are detrimental to Spiritbending.
Kahn, however, broke free from these stereotypes.
Guru Pathik urged him to complete this stage quickly.
As experiences and emotions accumulated, the Seven Chakras would become increasingly difficult to open.
Even after opening them, new emotions or events could block the Chakras again, forcing the cultivator to undergo the trial of the mind once more.
This explained why Air Nomads and cultivators like Guru Pathik preferred seclusion, detached from worldly affairs. Without new disturbances, the mind remained pure.
Kahn, however, neither could nor wished to live in isolation. This made his path of spiritual cultivation all the more challenging.
"So why cultivate the mind, and what is the purpose of opening the Seven Chakras?" he asked.
"Good question," Guru Pathik replied with a smile.
"Cultivating the mind, simply put, is pursuing inner peace. Life is full of disturbances that affect the inner self. Remembering these events disrupts our peace. Cultivation eliminates that disturbance."
"At higher levels, the reasons vary," he continued.
"Once the Seven Chakras are opened, you will feel an unprecedented lightness. Everything becomes clear, refreshing. The mist before your eyes dissipates, and the world appears more vividly."
Kahn nodded, half-understanding. Just listening, opening all Seven Chakras sounded like entering a mysterious state.
Suddenly, a spark flashed in his mind, and a word jumped out of his memory.
"Returning to Xiantian?!" he blurted.
Xiantian was a concept from his homeland, often mentioned in wuxia novels. Those who reached this realm were called Xiantian experts.
In this idea, the world is filled with impure, turbid qi that corrupts human function.
Only one in a pre-natal state—perfect and flawless—could be considered Xiantian. Human cultivation removes post-natal impurities to return to this state.
The process Guru Pathik described—unblocking the Seven Chakras—sounded remarkably similar to returning to Xiantian.
"Returning to Xiantian? What is that?" Guru Pathik asked, curious about the unfamiliar term.
Excitedly, Kahn explained the concept and his conjecture.
"It is indeed very similar. In that case, let's name it Xiantian," Guru Pathik said with a surprised smile.
Kahn's heart leapt. Guru Pathik recognized the concept and agreed to name the mysterious state Xiantian after the Seven Chakras were unblocked.
If so, Kahn realized, he might truly have the chance to become a Grandmaster of Xiantian Perfection in the future.
[Motivation for cultivation increased!]
Ten days passed quickly. This period was both fulfilling and challenging for Kahn.
Tempering the mind was difficult; he even felt a sense of relief whenever he paused cultivation.
Meanwhile, Southeast Northwest enjoyed themselves immensely. Kahn often wondered how they could have so much fun in an empty place with nothing but scenery.
Temporarily bidding farewell to Guru Pathik, Kahn rode on Four Directions' back to the imperial capital.
His next visit would depend on circumstances, but Guru Pathik would always remain at East Air Temple, so he need not worry about finding him.
Thanks to Nike, Kahn returned within the ten-day limit.
Seeing Azula again after ten days, he felt inexplicable joy, and the pressure of cultivation dissipated.
He smiled genuinely and said, "Azula, I'm back."
Azula froze, her rehearsed lines forgotten.
She awkwardly replied, "So you're back… who cares about you?"
