Kahn's study of Spiritbending had begun. Though he had not yet reached the point of actively summoning spirits, he was steadily moving toward that goal.
Meanwhile, the presence and aid of East, South, West, and North gave him extraordinary mobility, greatly expanding his range of activity.
As spirits, East, South, West, and North were unlike flesh-and-blood animals; flying around the planet in a single bound was hardly a drain.
Their speed ensured that traveling anywhere in the world would take no more than a week.
With such perfect companions, Kahn's mind became active, brimming with ideas.
One thought was to visit Iroh and Zuko.
Although he often met Iroh in the Spirit World and frequently communicated with Zuko through Iroh as an intermediary, it felt like an online video call—ultimately lacking the reality of a direct meeting.
He and Zuko had not seen each other in a long time, and each recollection stirred a quiet longing.
However, both Iroh and Zuko rejected the idea.
Now was not the right time. Both sides were under surveillance, and any exposure could have serious consequences.
"If you have anything to say, just tell Iroh to relay it," Zuko advised. "Though I miss you, safety is more important right now."
Even Zuko's prudence left Kahn both relieved and speechless. His plan had to be abandoned.
Another idea emerged: to travel.
It had long been his wish, but circumstances had never allowed it. Now, with East, South, West, and North, short trips of three to five days became feasible.
There were countless places he wanted to visit—such as the Palm Oasis in the Earth Kingdom, known as the Desert of Death, which supposedly housed an iceberg that never melted even in the heat.
A rare wonder and resort, according to the books.
Yet this plan too was blocked—this time by Azula.
"You want me to cover for you while you enjoy yourself alone? That's a great idea, but people might think I'm your servant," she sneered.
"Either we go together, or you stay put. Enjoying yourself alone? No way!"
Kahn was speechless again.
Though Azula's words were sharp, she was right.
They had been through thick and thin together. Sneaking off alone would indeed seem selfish.
Besides, Azula received far more scrutiny from Ozai than he did. His own sneaking out relied on her aid, but if she attempted it, exposure was guaranteed.
Thus, his plan for short-term travel was also abandoned. He returned to diligent cultivation, awaiting the next opportunity.
Frustration stirred within him. There were things he had the ability to do but simply could not.
"Once this matter is settled, I will travel the world—and no one will stop me!" he swore silently.

Their opposition to Ozai had become inevitable.
Though Ursa had not yet been found, nor the truth clarified, they planned in advance how to overthrow him.
After deliberation, the quickest and most convenient approach seemed to be a decapitation strike.
Both could freely enter and exit the palace.
Azula often served by Ozai's side, and he did not arouse suspicion. A decapitation strike would thus be the easiest plan.
The first consideration was a direct confrontation with Ozai.
Azula had learned Lightningbending directly from Ozai, and he had guided her combat style. She knew his strength well.
He was formidable, his attacks ruthless, but in terms of Firebending alone, Ozai was inferior to Jeong Jeong, whose pressure she still remembered.
Furthermore, Ozai had never fought on a battlefield or faced opponents beyond Iroh, leaving his true strength uncertain.
Thus, when they defected, taking down Ozai would not be particularly difficult.
The real challenge lay in the resistance from his loyalists and the cascade of problems that would follow.
Ozai was cunning and ruthless, and his subordinates were vicious and ambitious.
A civil war within the Fire Nation could draw in the Water Tribe and Earth Kingdom, who would exploit the chaos.
Ozai had once survived similar challenges, but Iroh's faction had prioritized external threats first, then been purged after overcoming them.
His subordinates lacked such nobility.
The struggle for the throne was another issue. Azula and Zuko both desired the position, while Iroh's faction might back Iroh as the popular choice.
Indeed, there were many complications.
Kahn had promised to support Azula, but he preferred not to be deeply entangled. Both sides were family.
After dealing with Ozai, he planned to travel extensively, intervening only to clear Ozai's remnants.
As for the three-person succession, he would stand by Azula while mediating among the parties, guiding them toward resolution.
Then, he could finally ascend to a carefree, joyful life.
The ideal was beautiful.
