Before dawn, Kahn and Nike quietly landed in a hidden corner of the forest outside the Fire Nation Capital, heading toward their agreed-upon meeting point.
When they arrived, two familiar figures were already waiting: Azula and Zuko.
Today, the three of them would travel together to Hira Town to meet Ursa, and ask Face Mother to restore Ursa's memories.
"Yo, long time no see. You two are early," Kahn greeted as he approached.
"Long time no see," Zuko replied, letting out a quiet sigh.
"We've been waiting for this day for a very, very long time."
From the moment his mother disappeared, Zuko had never once given up on finding her.
Even during his exile, he had held onto this wish. Now that the day had finally arrived, he felt a complicated mix of anticipation and hesitation.
Kahn nodded, sharing the sentiment, "Yeah… today will finally bring an answer."
Originally, they just wanted to find Ursa. None of them expected it would turn into all this. They had walked through far too much together.
Azula, however, seemed as calm as ever. As the two boys spoke, she casually walked up to Kahn and smacked the spot where he'd been injured.
"How's your injury?" she asked, perfectly deadpan.
"Thanks for your deep concern. It's healed," Kahn grumbled, swatting her hand away.
If that wound hadn't healed, her "pat" would have hurt like hell.
Still, Azula's medicine really had worked—only a few faint scars remained, making Kahn look slightly more mature than before.
Azula showed zero guilt. Instead, she turned around and snapped.
"Since you're fine, let's stop wasting time. I don't want to stand here listening to your nonsense."
…Yeah. She wasn't nearly as calm as she pretended.
Kahn and Zuko exchanged a helpless look—completely used to Azula's attitude.
Kahn shrugged, "Alright then—let's go."
"Nike, we're relying on you."
With a clear cry, East, South, West, and North transformed into the divine bird Nike, carrying all three of them toward Hira Town.
Along the way, Kahn asked.
"By the way… what's the situation in the palace? Is it really fine for you to sneak out now?"
"What could possibly be the problem? My imperial father is drowning in work—he doesn't have time to breathe, much less watch me," Azula smirked proudly.
After wasting absurd amounts of manpower searching for Iroh and Kahn, Ozai had finally been forced to stop.
Kahn had vanished immediately after escaping, and Iroh went into hiding just as his preparations finished.
Even digging up half the country produced no results.
Ozai was furious, but reality gave him no choice. Once things "returned to normal," the backlog of responsibilities exploded all at once, leaving him buried alive in state affairs—and leaving Azula completely free.
"What's more, I'm out on a mission this time."
"A mission?" Kahn raised an eyebrow, "What mission?"
"Oh, nothing big," Azula said dismissively.
"I just hinted to my imperial father about some 'possible' White Lotus activity in the city. He took it very seriously and put me fully in charge of the investigation."
Zuko nearly jumped out of his seat.
"Are you insane?! What if he really discovers something?!"
Kahn wasn't as shocked—Azula never attempted anything she wasn't confident about. Still, he waited quietly for her explanation.
Azula clicked her tongue.
"My dear foolish brother… I truly wish you had studied properly. If you understood what 'full responsibility' means, you wouldn't ask something so stupid."
"What gets investigated, how far it goes, and when the results come out…" She tapped her temple.
"All of that depends on me. Understand?"
"But what if—"
"There are no 'what ifs'," she cut him off.
Then she smirked.
"Instead of stressing over irrelevant things, you should worry about whether your girlfriend can cover for me properly."
"…What?"
Azula had formed an entire investigation team—all her own people—to make the mission look legitimate.
And since she needed someone to cover for her absence, Mai and Ty Lee had been "volunteered" for the job.
"The whole team answers to me," Azula said confidently. "As long as no one does anything idiotic, nothing will go wrong."
Kahn silently offered three seconds of prayer for Mai and Ty Lee.
He also couldn't help wondering just how many people Azula had secretly turned in the palace… It felt like everyone was working for her.
Zuko was unhappy, but since Azula guaranteed their safety, he could only stay quiet.
The three of them chatted during the flight—bickering like they used to as children.
Back then, Kahn shared stories from his previous life.
Now, Zuko shared stories from his years traveling the world with Iroh.
Searching for the Avatar had taken them everywhere—different kingdoms, tribes, and cultures.
Under Iroh's guidance, Zuko observed and learned everything he could. It was difficult, but he gained a lot.
Listening to him describe the places they'd visited, Kahn felt a flash of envy.
He wanted to travel too—freely, without schemes or conspiracies—just exploring the world's beauty.
Soon, he told himself.
Once Ozai was gone… he would finally be free.
"We're here!" Nike descended as Hira Town came into view.
"We're… here…" Azula murmured.
Both she and Zuko fell silent, their expressions complicated.
For both of them… they had waited for this moment for far, far too long.
"Mother…" Zuko whispered.
"Mother…" Azula echoed quietly.
Their long-awaited reunion was finally within reach.
