Hira Town was still the same peaceful, quiet little town, but Azula and Zuko had no mind to appreciate its serenity.
The moment they entered, Kahn led them straight toward the house where Ikem and Ursa lived.
Kahn had already confirmed their location with Heavenly Eye Vision and finally let out a breath of relief.
Thankfully, Ikem hadn't escaped again with Ursa and Kiyi. Otherwise, Kahn really would have had a headache.
He glanced back at the two behind him.
But now… the ones with headaches won't be me.
"We're almost there."
Finally arriving at Ursa's doorstep, Kahn pointed to the house ahead. Upon hearing this, Zuko immediately tensed up, nervously swallowing.
"Mother… lives here?"
"Stop talking nonsense and go!" Azula snapped, but her feet quietly slowed down as she drifted to the very back.
Kahn stepped forward and knocked.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
The door opened quickly.
Ikem stood there, stunned for half a moment before a complex expression surfaced on his face.
"You've come."
His gaze shifted behind Kahn, landing on Zuko and Azula.
Though they had never met, the similarities in their faces to the Ursa he once knew were enough.
"You must be Ursa's children—Prince Zuko and Princess Azula, right?"
"Yes. And you must be Uncle Ikem. Thank you for taking care of Mother all these years." Zuko bowed respectfully.
He already understood the truth about Ursa… and the complicated emotions between her and Ikem.
But he held no resentment. Their relationship had been genuine, and Ursa's happiness mattered more than anything.
There would be time to untangle the rest later.
Right now, recovering her memories was the priority.
"It was nothing," Ikem replied, surprised yet relieved by Zuko's attitude.
Being acknowledged by Ursa's children carried more weight than he expected.
Zuko then asked, voice trembling slightly.
"Is Mother inside?"
Before Ikem could answer, a woman's voice drifted out from the house—
"Dear, who is it?"
Zuko and Azula both froze.
The voice wasn't the same one they remembered… yet both immediately knew.
This was their mother.
"It's Kahn and his friends," Ikem replied over his shoulder before stepping aside.
"She's inside, but she hasn't recovered her memories yet. She's still Noriko right now. Please… don't frighten her."
"Understood," Zuko said solemnly.
The three followed him in.
They hadn't even sat down yet when—
"Kahn!!"
A small figure rushed forward and latched onto his leg.
Kahn laughed, lifting her up as she let out excited squeals.
"Long time no see, Kiyi."
"Of course I grew taller! I'm practicing every day!"
"Have you been practicing the moves I taught you?"
"Yes!!"
Zuko hesitated for a moment before asking.
"Kahn… who is she?"
Ikem stepped in.
"She's our daughter, Kiyi. Come, Kiyi—say hello to your older brother and sister."
"Hello, Big Brother! Hello, Big Sister!!"
Kiyi greeted them with full enthusiasm.
Azula didn't respond—she had gone quiet ever since seeing Ikem.
Zuko, however, smiled warmly.
"Hello, Kiyi. I'm Zuko. The sister next to me is Azula. It's nice to meet you."
"You're really my big brother and sister?!" Kiyi gasped in delight.
Zuko looked at Ikem in surprise.
Ikem explained.
"I've told Noriko—Ursa—everything. Because… I couldn't make that decision for her. She chose to recover her memories."
"Kiyi overheard some things, so she learned about both of you as well."
Zuko nodded deeply, "You are a gentle man."
Ikem let out a soft, bitter chuckle.
"Don't give me too much credit. I had selfish thoughts too… If Noriko had chosen not to recover her memories, I was prepared to take our family and leave this place forever. I wanted her to have a peaceful life."
"But… her choice wasn't the one I hoped for."
At that moment, Noriko emerged from the kitchen, smiling gently.
"Long time no see, Kahn. Welcome."
Her eyes then drifted to Azula and Zuko. She paused.
She looked nothing like the Ursa in their memories, yet the two of them knew—this was their mother.
Being stared at by her, both inexplicably stiffened, barely daring to breathe.
Noriko quickly snapped out of it and smiled apologetically.
"I'm cooking right now. Let's all eat together."
"O-okay!" Zuko replied too quickly, revealing his nerves.
He didn't even know why he was nervous—she didn't remember them yet.
Soon, dinner was ready. Everyone sat at the table. The food was simple, but even Azula—the pickiest eater among them—ate without complaint.
Ikem and Noriko didn't bring up the past; they simply conversed naturally.
Zuko eagerly joined in, wanting to learn anything he could about Ursa's life these past years. The warmth of the atmosphere quietly calmed him.
Azula stayed silent.
But Kahn could tell—she was listening very closely.
He leaned toward her and whispered, "Don't you want to say something?"
Azula shot him a disdainful look.
"That woman isn't Mother yet. What would I say?"
She said that… yet never looked away from Noriko and Zuko.
Contradictory.
Kahn snorted inwardly but wisely kept his mouth shut.
A little earlier, Azula had seemed anxious to meet Ursa.
Now, she was frozen silent.
Her heart… must have been in turmoil.
