Chang Feng, the Fire Nation's Lord of Agni Kai, was attending a banquet the Earth King was holding for his pet bear.
He stood silently in a corner of the grand hall, observing the nobles while his thoughts drifted elsewhere.
The Earth King always found various excuses to host endless banquets, and this time was no exception.
Although he had no real interest in the festivities, he was pleased nonetheless.
The more the Earth King indulged in meaningless celebrations, the more stable Chang Feng's control over Ba Sing Se became.
But tonight, his focus wasn't on the banquet at all.
He was far more concerned about the movements of the Avatar and his companions. At the moment, they posed the greatest threat to him.
Joo Dee reported that they had only been touring the city these past few days.
His surveillance agents confirmed it — as if the group were patiently waiting to be summoned by the Earth King.
If that were truly the case, they would never see the Earth King. But his intuition told him this wasn't simple.
Most importantly, the two Dai Li agents responsible for monitoring the Avatar still hadn't returned to report.
That was unusual.
A sense of unease pushed him to immediately order the Dai Li to secretly strengthen security.
Under no circumstances could the Avatar's group meet the Earth King.
Chang Feng's eyes swept sharply across the hall, searching for any unfamiliar faces.
Time passed. As the Earth King arrived in his palanquin and the banquet reached its liveliest point, Chang Feng's vigilance peaked as well.
"Today's banquet is for my pet, Bosco, everyone…"
The Earth King began his speech. Minutes slipped by. The banquet continued smoothly.
There was no sign of intruders, and Chang Feng hadn't noticed any unfamiliar guests.
Had he been overthinking it?
Boom!
A thunderous bang shook the hall. The wooden doors exploded inward as a giant beast smashed through them.
Appa, carrying the Avatar Team, burst into the hall, stunning everyone present.
"What's going on?!"
The Earth King jumped, clutching his pet bear in fright.
His attire — and the bear — were unmistakable. Kahn spotted him immediately.
Found him.
The Earth King's appearance also gave Kahn a strange sense of déjà vu.
Tall, thin, small round glasses, refined demeanor — yet his panicked expression radiated a very clear stupidity.
How did they break in?!
Across the room, Chang Feng's pupils contracted in shock. His mind spun.
Why hadn't his agents outside notified him of the Avatar's approach? Where had the plan gone wrong?
He didn't know — but he reacted instantly.
"Assassins! Protect His Majesty and evacuate him!"
He sprinted toward the Earth King, motioning for the guards to follow.
"Assassins!"
"Run!!"
"Help!"
The hall fell silent for a heartbeat — then erupted into chaos. Nobles scrambled, shrieking, overturning tables and tripping over each other.
At the same time, the Dai Li agents hidden among the banquet guests launched their ambush, striking all at once in an effort to subdue the Avatar Team quickly.
The Dai Li possessed a deadly secret technique known as the Shadowless Stone Fist.
They wore stone gloves on their hands, capable of launching silently and controlled mid-air with precision — as flexible as real hands.
Fortunately, the group had already obtained intel from the Dai Li member they'd captured earlier.
Aang immediately raised earth walls around the team, blocking the incoming strikes.
The next instant, Kahn, Zuko, and Iroh leapt over the walls and slammed into the advancing Dai Li.
Aang shouted toward the Earth King:
"I'm the Avatar! Earth King, we need to talk to you!"
Hearing this, the Earth King hesitated and said to Chang Feng:
"W-Wait… he said he's the Avatar. Is there some truth I haven't been told?"
"How can you trust the words of criminals?!" Chang Feng snapped, trying to drag the Earth King away. "What if they intend to harm you?!"
But it was already too late. The battle between the Avatar Team and the Dai Li ended far faster than Chang Feng expected.
The Dai Li were elite Earthbenders — strong, disciplined, skilled.
But they were facing the Avatar, his terrifying companions, and a seasoned Firebending master like Iroh.
After dispatching the last Dai Li agent, Kahn sprinted straight toward the Earth King.
The royal guards were far weaker and didn't last more than a few seconds. Kahn took them out cleanly with Chi Blocking, dropping them one by one.
Standing before the Earth King and Chang Feng, Kahn folded his arms.
"You're Prime Minister Chang Feng, Lord of Agni Kai?"
"So what if I am?" Chang Feng coldly replied, trying to look tough. "Do you even understand what you're doing?! You're attempting to overthrow the Earth King's rule!"
"No," Kahn shot back. "We're here to tell the Earth King the truth — and expose your conspiracy."
Aang stepped forward.
"Earth King, we're here to help you. You're being deceived by Chang Feng!"
The Earth King frowned.
"Even if you're the Avatar, you broke into my palace, defeated my guards, and ruined my banquet. Does this look like you're trying to help me?"
"If you truly want to help me, put down your weapons — all of you — and step back!"
"This…"
Aang scratched his head. The Earth King actually… had a point.
They exchanged looks, shrugged, and reluctantly set down their weapons.
Realistically, only Aang and Sokka were holding actual weapons. For benders, their bending was their true strength — so the gesture was merely symbolic.
But at that moment, Chang Feng's lips curled into a wicked grin.
"Take them down!"
"…"
Nothing happened.
Silence. Awkward silence.
Chang Feng stiffened. Why weren't the Dai Li outside responding?
Kahn smirked.
"If you're waiting for backup from outside… sorry. There isn't any left."
"What?!"
"Why do you think we arrived so late?"
Kahn shrugged mockingly.
Before crashing the banquet, they had already cleared the palace of guards.
Sneaking through the entire palace and knocking out everyone quietly was supposed to be difficult — but with Kahn's Heavenly Eye Vision and their absurdly strong lineup… it wasn't difficult at all.
Only now did Chang Feng begin to panic. Everything had gone far, far beyond his expectations.
