The next day, Zane couldn't find a moment of peaceful rest after what had happened the previous night. The moment warm rays of sunlight slipped into the house, he found himself standing before her door, his knuckles hovering over Selina's room for a long while.
At first, Zane thought of giving Selina some space. But when it was already ten in the morning and she still hadn't stepped out, worry began to coil inside him. He couldn't tell what might be happening in there with her alone, and the thought left him deeply unsettled.
Throughout the night, his mind had been scrambling to understand why she had pulled away like that. Eventually, he remembered the cruel words he had said regarding their intimacy. He hadn't meant it that way, but he had nothing to justify himself with, even if he had his reasons for saying it. It hadn't been out of cruelty or a desire to hurt her.
