Chapter 153 - Chapter 152: Charles Realisation

Kakashi dispersed his Susanoo as the agreement was met. The massive blue energy construct faded away in a gentle swirl of light.

The X-Men let out breaths they had been holding. Their shoulders relaxed. They looked relieved after the terrifying giant was gone. The threat of instant death had passed.

Kakashi and the other Avengers were taken inside. The team walked behind Charles Xavier's wheelchair. The X-Men flanked them on both sides. No one spoke much.

The tension had not fully disappeared. The mutants still watched the Avengers every move. But the immediate danger had passed. The group entered the large front doors of the mansion.

The mutants surrounded them as they walked through the halls. Kakashi could see kids everywhere. Some kids hid behind furniture. Others stood on staircases. A few brave ones leaned out to stare. They had seen the fight outside.

They had heard the crashes. They had felt the ground shake. Now they saw the strangers who had caused it all. Th X men become more worried as they saw the children. Cap noticed it. He spoke in a gentle voice.

"You do not have to worry about the safety of the kids. You have my word that they would not be harmed. Even if we came to blows, they would not be attacked or harmed."

A small girl ran up to Kakashi suddenly. She looked about eight years old. She had blonde hair in pigtails. She wore a blue dress. She pointed an accusing finger at him.

"You made Professor bleed. Bad man."

She threw a globe of water from her hand at Kakashi. The water spun in a perfect sphere. It flew straight toward his face. Kakashi lazily tilted his head.

The water globe missed by inches. It splashed against the wall behind him. Droplets rained down. The girl puffed her cheeks. She looked ready to throw another one.

Charles smiled gently at the girl. "While I like that you are worrying about your principal, little Elsa. But we do not treat our guests like that. Apologize."

The girl crossed her arms. She huffed. Her cheeks stayed puffed. But she muttered, "Sorry."

Kakashi looked down at her. "It is alright. I deserved that one."

The girl blinked. Then she smiled shyly. She ran back to her friends.

Charles took them to a large meeting room.

"Let us start with introductions, shall we?" he said.

"My name is Charles Xavier. People call me Professor. But I am also the principal of this special school."

He looked at the others in his team. They stepped forward one by one.

Scott Summers spoke first. "Scott Summers. I go by Cyclops."

Ororo Munroe followed. "Ororo Munroe. Storm."

Logan grunted. "Logan. Wolverine."

Jean Grey smiled softly. "Jean Grey. I do not have a code name yet."

Kurt Wagner gave a small bow. "Kurt Wagner. Nightcrawler."

Bobby Drake grinned. "Bobby Drake. Iceman."

Hank McCoy adjusted his glasses. "Hank McCoy. Beast."

The introductions were simple. Each person said their name and their code name.

Kakashi thought, 'Huh, it is kind of stupid to name yourself with something regarding your power. It would have given the enemy an advantage when they first meet them. But if they know their name, they could tell what your ability is.'

The Avengers went next. Tony spoke first. "Tony Stark. Iron Man. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."

Kakashi had to stop himself from eye rolling at that.

Natasha smiled slightly. "Natasha Romanoff. Black Widow."

Steve Rogers stood tall. "Steve Rogers. Captain America."

Bruce Banner rubbed the back of his neck. "Bruce Banner. I turn into the Hulk when I get angry. He is the green guy that you met earlier."

Logan gave a huff at that. But he was more focused on Cap and what Cap had had said.

Kakashi spoke last. "I am the leader of the group that we call Avengers. My name is Kakashi Hatake."

He took a pause before saying, "Now that introductions are done. I would go straight to business."

"Firstly, we are not mutants," Kakashi said.

This caused surprise on the X-Men's faces. They looked at each other. Some frowned. Others looked confused.

Hank spoke up. "But your abilities…"

Kakashi completed, "Have nothing to do with being a mutant or having the X-Gene like you."

Before the X-Men could process it, Kakashi dropped another bomb.

"In fact, we are not from this world. No, it would be better to say we are not from this universe."

The room went completely silent. The X-Men stared at them. Scott's hand moved toward his visor. Logan's claws slid out halfway. Ororo's eyes turned white for a second. Charles raised a hand to calm them.

"What… do you mean?" Scott asked with a stutter.

Kakashi explained carefully. "We are from another universe. Another planet Earth in that universe to be precise. We have come to this world because someone on this side is trying to break the barriers between our universes. I do not know why but they are doing it. In the process, knowingly or unknowingly, they are leading to the doom of both universes by causing an incursion."

Scott asked, "Incursion?"

Kakashi answered what an incursion is. "An incursion happens when two universes overlap too much. The barriers between realities break down. Parts of both universes start to bleed into each other. Cities appear where other cities already exist. People from one world suddenly find themselves in another. History changes. Memories mix. Reality becomes unstable. If the overlap continues, the stress becomes too great. One universe collapses. Or both do. Everything ends. There would be no survivors. Just nothing."

The X-Men listened in stunned silence. The idea was too big and too terrifying. Charles leaned forward in his chair. His face had gone pale.

"No…" Charles whispered. "When he said that… his brotherhood would not have any issues being hunted down and they would settle in a peaceful place… I never thought that he was… going to do this."

Charles' mind raced. He remembered conversations with Erik Lensherr over the years. When Magneto and him had met last, Erik had spoken of a better world for mutants. He always used to say this but the last time was different. It was as if he was sure that this time his dream would become a reality.

Now the pieces fit together in a horrible way. Magneto had found a way to make that dream real.

Not by fighting humans. Not by building a new nation on this Earth. By tearing open reality itself. By forcing two universes together. By creating a new world where mutants could rule. Charles felt sick. He had known Erik was dangerous. He had known Erik was angry. But he had never imagined Erik would risk everything. Everyone.

Two entire realities. All for a dream of mutant supremacy. Charles had spent his life trying to build bridges between humans and mutants.

Erik had spent his trying to burn those bridges. Now Erik was burning entire universes. Charles could not believe it. But he had to. The evidence was standing in front of him. The strangers from another reality.

The warning about an incursion. The desperate search for a reality-warping mutant. It all pointed to one person. Erik. Magneto. His old friend. His old enemy. His old hope for peace. Now turned into the greatest threat of all.

Charles closed his eyes for a moment. He took a deep breath. When he opened them again, they were filled with determination and sorrow.

Logan huffed. "Not that I expected much from him."

Kakashi and the Avengers looked confused. But they knew they would know the person responsible for their predicament soon.
