UK:GSW Chapter 443 – The Moon's Ōtsutsuki: Is the Hidden Leaf Cheating?

"That is the clan established by Hamura Ōtsutsuki's descendants? Truly astonishing… If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed such a place could exist on the Moon."

"Speaking of which, how exactly have they survived here? How do they produce their supplies? Do they possess some kind of unique technology?"

Orochimaru raised his curiosity aloud — as a researcher, his interest had already been fully ignited.

In fact, everyone in the research division felt the same way. There were simply too many things here worth studying — the kind of knowledge no seeker of truth could possibly refuse.

Up to this point in their journey to the Moon, the happiest people were undoubtedly the researchers. Just what they had seen so far was already enough to study for years.

For Orochimaru's question, Uchiha Kei actually knew the answer. First, while the Moon's Ōtsutsuki clan lived in seclusion here, they were not completely cut off from the shinobi world — they still maintained a strange transport pathway constructed by Hamura Ōtsutsuki himself, which could directly reach the shinobi world.

Second, the Moon's Ōtsutsuki possessed their own unique puppet technology, with lunar workshops producing black technology far ahead of anything in the shinobi world. Their powerful puppets, when combined with the Tenseigan, could even fight the complete Nine-Tails head-on without losing.

And this was the complete Nine-Tails from the original story.

Of course, in their current state, even half of a Tailed Beast's chakra was not much weaker than the original. Especially Tamamo-mae, who had already become a completely independent and new entity — essentially an upgraded version.

While her chakra reserves were less than the original full Nine-Tails, her actual combat power had already surpassed it.

If the current Tamamo-mae fought her past complete form, she would likely beat her as handily as Hashirama Senju beating her in the past.

The changes Uchiha Kei had brought to the Nine-Tails were truly tremendous.

And it was under these circumstances that they were discovered.

The Moon's Ōtsutsuki clan had noticed their presence.

This was only natural — Konoha had no intention of secretly spying on the Moon's Ōtsutsuki. They had planned from the start to make direct contact.

Without knowledge of the events from the original movie, Konoha held a basic goodwill toward the Ōtsutsuki clan, since they shared ancestry with the Hyūga clan.

Based on this, they planned to approach the Moon's Ōtsutsuki with a friendly attitude, then decide how to proceed depending on the results of that first meeting.

Although Kei knew what would eventually happen to this clan, those events hadn't occurred yet, so he had no objections to this plan.

Thus, with an open and upright attitude, they came face-to-face with a large group of "Byakugan patients."

These people all wore very ancient-style white robes, looking as if they had stepped out of the distant past. Like the Hyūga, they had a Main House and Branch House, but here on the Moon, the Main House had never placed a Caged Bird Seal on the Branch House. It was merely a distinction of roles — the Main House held authority, the Branch House had more members and carried out tasks — with no oppressive measures at all.

From this, it was clear why a future Branch House rebellion wiping out the Main House wasn't entirely without reason.

The irony was that, unlike the Hyūga's oppressive treatment of their Branch House, the Moon's Main House treated theirs quite well — the division was just a matter of different duties.

The conflict arose because the Main House, as managers and priests, remained indifferent to changes in the shinobi world, believing their only duty was to guard Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's seal forever.

The Branch House believed the Main House had grown complacent and abandoned the mission given by Hamura Ōtsutsuki, who, like his elder brother, desired peace and harmony. With the shinobi world in chaos, they felt it was their duty to intervene rather than sit idly above it all.

This difference in ideology built up over time, until the outbreak of the Third Great Ninja War pushed the Branch House over the edge. They saw the Main House as hopeless degenerates and decided such traitors must be purged.

As the executors and military arm of the clan, the Branch House easily destroyed the Main House.

However, even in defeat, the Main House's last counterattack severely injured the Branch House, forcing them to recuperate rather than immediately act in the shinobi world.

And so they waited… until the Fourth Great Ninja War.

During that war, the success of the Eye of the Moon Plan and Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's resurrection drove the Moon's Ōtsutsuki into madness. They decided the shinobi world was nothing but filth — unworthy of salvation — and that they would instead "purify" it.

They planned to sacrifice their entire clan to create a gigantic Tenseigan, entrusting this mission to their last clansman, Toneri Ōtsutsuki.

Toneri was a piece of work — not only did he seek to carry out the clan's will, he also came to the shinobi world to steal Princess Hinata Hyūga for marriage, plucking out her younger sister Hanabi's pure Byakugan eyes to implant into himself, and fusing with the giant Tenseigan's power to gain the same dojutsu as Hamura.

Yes — stealing someone's sister's eyes and then proposing to her. If that's not outrageous, what is?

In the end, Toneri failed — defeated by Naruto's power of love in reclaiming his bride. Hinata took back Hanabi's eyes, leaving Toneri in humiliating defeat.

But Toneri likely hadn't even been born yet — in the original story, he was about Naruto's age, and right now, Naruto and Sasuke hadn't even been born.

Though Sasuke was here, he was from another shinobi world.

So perhaps Kei's arrival could prevent the Moon's Ōtsutsuki from destroying themselves.

In truth, seeing so many Byakugan and sensing the great chakra within each — strong enough to rival a Mangekyō Sharingan-wielding Uchiha — made it clear just how much stronger they were than the Hyūga.

Compared to them, Konoha's Hyūga were like raw recruits.

As they were having this thought, an elderly silver-haired man with a goatee stepped out from among the Ōtsutsuki, his pure Byakugan fixed on the Konoha group, his gaze assessing.

However, he showed no haughty hostility. Instead, with the manners of an ancient clan, he politely greeted them, then calmly asked who they were and where they had come from.

As Hokage's advisor and the group's representative, Minato Namikaze stepped forward with his trademark sunny smile to begin Konoha's charm-offensive diplomacy.

By rank, Second Hokage Tobirama Senju should have done the talking, but Tobirama refused — and to avoid revealing his identity, he remained in his white-haired, red-eyed girl disguise, insisting, "I'm just a regular member. I can't carry such heavy responsibility."

Ever since stepping down as Hokage, Tobirama had rejected any form of taking the position again.

Though working in the research division counted as "reemployment," it was his passion — and though he was annoyed at having to work for Kei, he enjoyed it in a bittersweet way. It was entirely different from the heavy, unending responsibility of running the village.

Meanwhile, Minato truly displayed his natural charisma, quickly establishing a warm rapport with the elder, to the point that even Sasuke had to admit — no wonder Naruto was like that; it clearly ran in the family.

Through conversation, they learned the elder's name was Kiyokawa Ōtsutsuki, Great Elder of the Moon's Main House, responsible for lunar astrology. He had been outside observing the stars when he happened to see Konoha's arrival.

At first, Kiyokawa was polite but slightly aloof. But when he asked how Konoha knew of the Moon's Ōtsutsuki, Minato shared information about Black Zetsu — the shinobi world's ultimate manipulator.

When Kiyokawa and the others learned of Black Zetsu's existence — and that the shinobi world's thousand years of conflict had all been orchestrated by Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's "third son" — they were stunned.

They had never imagined that the constant turmoil was because Hamura and the Sage of Six Paths had failed to completely seal Kaguya, leaving behind a manifestation of her will to cause chaos.

The Main House elders now understood the shinobi world's strife, while the Branch House members were left shaken. They had always believed the endless wars were due to the shinobi people's nature.

Now they realized that the Branch House's radical plan — to destroy the Main House and then force peace on the shinobi world — had been hopelessly naive.

With Black Zetsu still around, even with the Tenseigan, the Moon's Ōtsutsuki would end up trapped in the same cycle of hatred, perhaps even falling into internal civil war.

It was a terrifying thought.

After all, this was Kaguya's third child — a being with the same origin as Hamura. Even if not as powerful as the Sage of Six Paths, he was not to be underestimated.

Thinking of it this way, the fact that Konoha had captured Black Zetsu was truly incredible.

But how had they managed it?

Even Hamura and the Sage of Six Paths had never discovered and captured him.

Kiyokawa asked the question.

Minato did not mention the "World No. 2" matter. He simply explained that Black Zetsu had revealed himself while trying to complete the Eye of the Moon Plan to revive Kaguya, leaving traces — and shinobi were the best at tracking such signs.

As for capturing him, Minato said they had the finest minds and power closest to the Sage of Six Paths, giving them the opportunity and ability to succeed.

To make his point, Minato flared his chakra, entering the Nine-Tails' Golden Cloak Mode.

Beside him, Kushina Uzumaki joined in, her own golden chakra form shining alongside her fiancé's.

Then Sasuke activated his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, releasing a fearsome aura. Not to be outdone, Jiraiya declared, "Even if my power isn't on your level, I can't be left in the dust," and entered Sage Mode.

Clearly, he'd taken time to study in the learning space, improving himself considerably despite spending much of his time on his "art" and with his fiancée, Nonō Yakushi.

The researchers did nothing — their role was science, not power displays.

Finally, Kei joined in, activating his Rinnegan in a cooperative show.

In an instant, the oppressive aura shook the field, leaving the Moon's Ōtsutsuki pale and astonished.

The strength Konoha displayed was overwhelming. Even though the Moon's Ōtsutsuki had jōnin-level fighters everywhere and quite a few at kage level, they could not match what they were seeing now.

Even the "weakest" present, Jiraiya, was at the threshold of super-kage level in his perfected Sage Mode. Without the Tenseigan, the Moon's Ōtsutsuki did not have a single super-kage-level warrior.
