Chapter 580 - Chapter 580: Web of Shadows

Earth-TRN011.

This was an extremely chaotic universe. In this reality, Venom appeared in a form people were more familiar with: an evil, terrifying symbiote. After separating from Spider-Man, it bonded with Eddie Brock to become Spider-Man's old rival, Venom.

However, during a battle between Spider-Man and Venom, Venom's state became extremely unstable and "exploded." First, Spider-Man extracted a portion of the symbiote from Venom, and then the entire entity detonated, infecting almost the entirety of Manhattan and turning the populace into its minions.

During this process, the Spider-Man of this universe wandered down a path of no return. He became addicted to the power provided by the symbiote and eventually succumbed to it. Alongside Black Cat, he defeated Venom and took control of all New York, plotting to rule the entire world.

"So, the Peter Parker of this universe ultimately chose to be with Black Cat, and Black Cat is a villain here—or at least, she is for now."

Gwen, who had followed along, looked at Peter with a hint of helplessness. "Is there even a world where Felicia is a senior at our school?"

"First of all, the Felicia of this world probably isn't our upperclassman. Secondly, she's a villain. These are two completely different worlds."

Originally, Peter hadn't planned on bringing Gwen, but her abilities were incredibly convenient, and she truly needed some practical combat training. Regardless, with Peter carrying Anti-Venom, he could essentially tear through these symbiotes at will.

Besides Gwen, the Spider-Society had prepared a dozen other Spider-Men currently utilizing symbiotes, ready to provide support at a moment's notice.

However, Peter first needed to establish contact with this universe's official organizations. After the Spider-Man of TRN011 turned villain and seized New York, S.H.I.E.L.D. had essentially abandoned the city, evacuating most of its personnel.

Thus, when another Spider-Man teleported onto the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, almost every agent immediately drew their weapons and aimed them at Peter and Gwen.

"Lower your guns."

After a quick assessment, the Nick Fury of this universe made a judgment call. Gwen, who basically knew nothing about Fury, let out a sigh of wonder upon seeing him.

"There's actually a world where Nick Fury is white and has hair?"

"Actually, the father of the Nick Fury in our universe was also white—he was an old comrade-in-arms of the Captain."

Peter dryly added the relevant information, though he didn't move to proactively shake Fury's hand. "I imagine you're all quite tense right now. After all, from what I know, the things the Spider-Man of this world has been doing aren't exactly 'good.'"

"Saying they aren't 'good' is a very modest understatement, friend."

The white Fury spoke as he approached Peter. His eyes swept over Peter's form before showing a look of surprise. "The suit you're wearing... it's a symbiote?"

Peter could feel the atmosphere on the Helicarrier grow even more strained. He didn't say much, simply shrugging. "I thought you were going to ask who I am."

"Future, past, multiverse—there are too many possibilities. But what we are facing now isn't something our past Spider-Man can solve."

The white Fury quietly attempted some probing, though he didn't seem to expect that Peter didn't need his tests at all. "I have a rough idea of what he—I mean your Spider-Man—is thinking. I'm not agreeing with him, of course, but please remember: your Spider-Man is like this because he made a choice, not because he is being controlled by the symbiote."

Peter tried to find a clue in Fury's expression, but he failed. Fury remained expressionless and seemed to reject Peter's line of thinking.

"I don't know which universe you came from, Spider-Man. But we have already sent out our best hunters to stop Spider-Man."

The white Fury had no kind words for Peter, and Peter could understand his perspective. Understanding aside, Peter had to push his own agenda forward, so he spoke bluntly.

"I'm guessing that's a lost cause. An extremely powerful god has empowered the symbiotes themselves. The threat level of these enhanced symbiotes is much higher than before."

"If the heroes you sent out are infected by symbiotes but are still managing to maintain their self-awareness, then they're even more doomed."

While Fury was still processing his confusion, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent let out a cry of alarm: "Sir! Something's wrong!"

Fury didn't scold the agent but immediately went to the screen to check the situation. New York was currently crawling with symbiotes; there wasn't a single place not teeming with those damn slimes.

However, that wasn't why the black-clad Spider-Man had dragged a symbiote monster up and hung it from the Empire State Building—that was Wolverine. He had been infected by the symbiote but had managed to maintain his self-awareness. Fury had originally thought Wolverine could stop the Symbiote Spider-Man, but looking at it now, he completely lacked the ability.

Nick Fury of Earth-TRN011 fell silent for a long time. Finally, he sighed, looked at Peter, and walked up to him.

"What is your relationship with the Fantastic Four?"

"Well, in my universe, Reed Richards declared that if anything ever happens to the Fantastic Four, I am the one to form the new team. Is that enough?"

The white Fury thought for a moment and cautiously took another step closer. Peter felt his spider-sense tingle slightly.

"Then what did you come to our universe for?"

"To eliminate the mutated symbiotes."

"That's it?" Fury asked, somewhat incredulously. "You don't want anything?"

"In fact, I didn't come here to help you. I came specifically to wipe out these symbiotes."

Hearing this, Fury finally nodded in satisfaction. He naturally believed that Spider-Man was a selfless, good person—your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man—right up until the day he became the leader of the symbiotes and occupied all of New York.

This history resulted in his lack of trust toward the Spider-Man in front of him, who was clearly from another universe.

"Fine. What do you need? Do you need to make preparations? The Fantastic Four evacuated some equipment from the Baxter Building, and there's Tony Stark..."

"I don't need anything. I just came to tell you that I'm an ally, to avoid any accidental friendly fire."

The white Fury was momentarily choked by those words before asking back in disbelief: "That is a goddamn city full of symbiotes."

"Well, if it's just one city's worth of symbiotes, it might actually be quite simple."
