MHGA Chapter 282 – Understand Her, Kazuma!
"???"
"??!"
After Aqua casually said that, Himmel was completely baffled. Kairo Retsu, after a brief moment of shock, suddenly snapped back to reality—
"Woc! I almost forgot about Aqua!"
Aqua—goddess of water, forcibly brought to another world by Kazuma. As a genuine goddess, all her stats were over the top… except for her Intelligence and Luck.
But because of her personality and her brain, people tended to forget that Aqua's abilities were actually totally busted… She could literally cast Resurrection, and no matter how powerful the curse, she could purify it with her divine affinity as a goddess…
Such is the nature of characters from gag anime…
"Aqua, there's something only a goddess like you can help us with right now. If you agree to help, I'll transfer Kazuma's Palico Meal allotment to you… plus some Rathalos whiskey I just acquired…"
"Really?! I'm in!" Aqua declared, hands on hips. "Guildmaster sir, just tell this goddess what you need her to do!"
"Simple. Himmel is about to go fight some demons, so we hope that Lady Aqua can accompany him—and if you could maybe revive some of the people in that scene, that'd be even better…" Kairo Retsu said with a sheepish grin, rubbing his hands together.
"What! Demons! You mean devils?!" Aqua's eyes lit up. "Leave it to me!"
"Excellent! Here, Aqua-san, have a glass of this top-shelf whiskey I brought back from 19th-century New York. Don't be shy, drink up…" Kairo Retsu said as he shamelessly bribed Aqua with Joseph's world souvenirs.
Himmel scratched his head in confusion.
What had just happened?
Did Kairo Retsu and Aqua just… casually talk about resurrection?
A matter of such magnitude… why did it sound like they were discussing lunch or tea?
Even though Himmel was now the most powerful hunter in the Gathering Hub since arriving after Kazuma, he still didn't understand many of the peculiarities of the other hunters.
Or rather, from a common sense perspective, it was unimaginable to Himmel that the blue-haired girl being bribed with whiskey could actually be a real goddess.
And even more unthinkable—that she might actually be the very same goddess his party's cleric worshipped.
By now, Aqua had already gotten tipsy on whiskey and was happily waving the bottle around, shouting: "Alright! This goddess shall lead you to defeat the de—demons! And bring everyone back to life! Let's go right now!"
"R-Right now?" Himmel hesitated. "Isn't that a bit… reckless? Don't we need to prepare?"
Himmel had always seen himself as a confident person. He had never backed down from the path of a hero. But for some reason, watching Aqua drunkenly march forward with a bottle of whiskey raised high filled him with a strong sense of unease.
"Let's go!!!" Aqua was already sprinting ahead, bottle in hand. Himmel had no choice but to follow her.
"silly cat, while the pizza's in the oven—let's go to another world together!" Kairo Retsu patted the Felyne's head. "Come on! Boss will take you on an interdimensional adventure!"
"Yay, nya!" silly cat happily followed behind Kairo Retsu. Together with Himmel and Aqua, they crossed over into Himmel's world.
It was just after nightfall there. Frieren was preparing to confront Aura outside the city. Inside, Stark and Fern were getting ready to storm the castle.
Himmel led the group to the base of the city walls…
"Wow! A barrier! Such a huge protective barrier…"
To Himmel's utter shock, Aqua and the others just strolled through the centuries-old defensive barrier like they were on a shopping trip—Aqua still carrying her whiskey bottle.
Himmel didn't think this was "magic" at all!
"Don't be so shocked. She's from a gag anime," Kairo Retsu said flatly. "You'll get used to it. You already came back from the dead after decades—what's there left to be surprised about?"
On second thought, Himmel had to admit that Kairo Retsu had a point. But then, in the very next second, he watched as Aqua, still clutching her whiskey, couldn't even get over the wall…
In the end, Himmel had to pick her up and leap over himself, while Kairo Retsu and silly cat helped each other climb up.
"Guildmaster, Aura should be in that direction," Himmel said as he stood on the wall, narrowing his eyes toward the billowing clouds of dust in the distance—signs of a large force on the move. In this region, only Aura had enough puppets to raise such a commotion.
"What?! The demon army is over there?!" Aqua raised a fist, still visibly drunk. "No problem! As long as this goddess is here, no demon can survive! Behold the holy…"
"Wait—!"
Kairo Retsu's eyes widened as he tried to stop her, but in the next instant, an intense flash of light filled his entire vision. Everyone in the city saw it too—a blinding holy light erupting from the city walls, as if someone had thrown a supercharged flash bomb.
"AAAHHHH! My eyes!!!" Kairo Retsu screamed, clutching his face. Deep inside, a strange sense of sympathy toward Kazuma began to awaken…
The sudden blinding flash had left Himmel just as dazed. Inside the city, the guards, mistaking it for an attack, instantly went into battle readiness. Meanwhile, Himmel squinted toward the castle and noticed something else—someone was fighting in midair.
A girl with long purple hair was launching magical attacks downward—Himmel's first time seeing Fern in action.
And then Himmel saw the demon she was fighting stagger oddly for a moment, look toward their direction in confusion, and get struck through the chest by Fern's magic.
Watching this, Himmel wondered: Did that demon just get weakened… by Aqua's flash from all the way over here?
If he ever had the chance, Himmel genuinely wanted to introduce this Aqua to Heiter—his cleric teammate who sincerely worshipped the goddess of water. She really might be a goddess… and a completely overpowered one at that.
Kairo Retsu, meanwhile, had finally recovered from the blindness and noticed city guards approaching the wall.
He hesitated, then asked Himmel, "You're the hero—can you talk them down… right?"
"Actually, I'm currently wanted," Himmel said slowly. "For the crime of… desecrating Hero Himmel's grave."
