Chapter 499 - Chapter 499: Facing Reality

"So you think you're the only one who can shoot? You think you're so good?"

Ben, who got shot right away, took two quick steps back to create some space. He quickly injected something into his thigh to get his health back.

Then, he raised his gun and shot at the priest.

You have a gun? He has a gun too!

But after shooting, Ben went silent for a moment.

The priest's shot felt like it hit his main artery.

But his own bullet felt like just a light scratch.

When they were fighting monsters as a team before, Ben thought the priest was weak.

But facing him for real, Ben felt a very strong pressure.

Before this, the priest monster on the bridge looked big and scary.

But actually, he moved very slowly, and didn't really want to attack much.

But this priest was different. After getting some space, he shot right away, then grabbed his axe and charged in for a crazy attack.

Ben didn't even get a chance to try using a Molotov to see how much damage it would do.

He only hit the priest three times with his axe. The rest of the time, he was playing hide-and-seek in the graveyard full of tombstones, and injecting stuff into his thigh.

"This BOSS is too fierce! He's like a crazy dog!"

"I don't think these 20 health potions will last long!"

Ben complained. At first, he thought having 20 health potions in the game was super easy.

He thought he could beat any BOSS with 20 health potions.

He knew he couldn't refill them with a lantern, but so what?

If you were careful fighting monsters along the way, you could even get more health potions. He thought he wouldn't even need to use them all.

But fighting the priest changed Ben's mind. Even though the priest's attacks did a lot of damage, they weren't instant kills. So he could usually get some space and heal up with a health potion.

But there was still a big problem. The health potions often left him in a tricky spot.

He would still need a little more health, so healing would be a waste. But if he didn't heal, the BOSS could easily kill him.

Because of this, the health potions were getting used up much faster than Ben expected.

He hadn't figured out the priest's attack pattern yet, but he had already used seven health potions. Counting the two he used on the werewolf and the brick guy near the entrance,

He only had 11 health potions left, but the priest still had almost four-fifths of his health.

"That's right, the music box!"

"Didn't the little girl say to play music if the priest lost his mind?"

Ben suddenly remembered something. He quickly equipped the music box and used it.

Then, he saw Father Gascoigne hold his head in place, getting confused for at least two or three seconds. But he quickly woke up and charged over, swinging his axe like a madman.

"So, the music box is for control, and I'm supposed to do the damage? But it's not a one-time use, is it?"

Ben understood, but he quickly realized something. If it was only one time use, he was done for.

So Ben used it again to test it out.

Seeing the priest get confused again, Ben was overjoyed.

"Invincible! This is invincible!?"

With a charged attack, he saw the priest's health bar drop a lot. But the priest quickly shook his head and recovered. Then, he swung his axe at Ben, scaring him. Ben quickly backed up and used two more injections to get his health up.

"So that's how you beat this BOSS! You use the music box to make him confused while dodging his crazy attacks."

"Then the player can attack while he's confused!"

Seeing that the music box still worked, Ben's eyes lit up.

Before, all the windows in Yharnam were lit up. But other than the first one that gave a hint about the main story,

They just said rude things like "You lowly outsider, get out of here!"

The windows with actual quests were later on.

If players ignored the window conversations, they wouldn't get the music box, and they would just suffer.

Ben felt like he had discovered the truth. He gave himself a thumbs up in his mind while getting away from the priest, getting ready to use the music box again.

As the music box played, Ben was stunned. This time, the priest didn't hold his head and get confused like before. Instead, he stood there and let out a painful, miserable scream.

Then, the priest's body suddenly grew bigger. With a bang, a lot of black pus splattered out of the priest's body.

The strong shockwave blew Ben away, but his health didn't drop at all. Clearly, this shockwave didn't do any damage.

But Ben wasn't focused on whether he lost health. Instead, he was stunned, looking at where the priest was.

Because the priest had turned into a huge werewolf.

His clothes were bursting from his transformed body. He had become a wild beast that had completely lost its mind!

"Crap, if you don't like the song on repeat, you could've just said so! I could've changed the song! Did you really have to transform like this?"

Now Ben understood.

This priest was probably like Gundyr from Dark Souls, with different forms.

When his health got to a certain point, the priest would transform into a werewolf, just like Gundyr turning into a Pus of Man in Dark Souls.

Using the music box could confuse the priest, but using it too many times would make the priest transform into a werewolf early.

Ben ran around the tombstones in the Tomb of Oedon. He had been using this method to avoid the priest before.

But now that the priest had transformed into a werewolf, that trick was useless.

The transformed priest grabbed and smashed the tombstone in front of him. Then, he swiped at Ben with his claws, sending him flying.

His full health bar dropped by two-thirds.

"I'm done for! I'm done for! All my blood echoes, they're all gone!" Ben chugged a health potion while running like crazy.

But the transformed priest was much faster than his hunter form.

Luckily, there were a few old crooked trees in the graveyard besides the tombstones. The werewolf priest couldn't destroy these trees directly.

Using these trees, Ben pulled a Shinji Mikami move and barely managed to keep the priest running around them.

But he could only run. He didn't have any room to fight back.

"Does the music box still work?" Ben frantically activated the music box again. But it had no effect on the completely mad priest.

One minute later.

Looking at his remaining 2 health potions, Ben finally decided on something.

That was…

Facing reality!

[You Died!]

With the priest's werewolf claws, three big words appeared on Ben's screen.

At the same time, the blood echoes on his body exploded out.

In the Hunter's Dream, looking at the 0 blood echoes on his body, Ben's heart trembled.

"Ah! My blood echoes!"

Ben let out a wail.

All the blood echoes on his body were gone.

And the worst part was that he didn't have many health potions left either.

And he couldn't die in the middle, or else the blood echoes he had saved up would really become just a memory.

He felt down and terrible.
