"You've done well, living up to my trust," Alaric said, nodding at the representative's words. He wasn't stingy with praise. Smiling, he added, "By the way, I've brought an old friend of yours. It's been a while, so you might want to catch up."
With a snap of his fingers, he pulled someone out of the pocket dimension.
... City of Silver's Chief, Colin Iliad!
"Chief!" The current City of Silver representative's eyes lit up upon seeing Colin Iliad, their expression brimming with uncontainable excitement.
This wasn't surprising. Compared to Alaric, an angel both revered and feared, Colin Iliad, though only a demigod, was City of Silver's true leader and backbone for many years. To many, he was a pillar of strength, a spiritual anchor.
The representative was one such admirer. He had only taken on the role of temporary leader because Colin and others had ventured to explore the outside world. Seeing their true leader return, it would be odd if he weren't excited.
Colin Iliad nodded at the representative, signaling for calm, then turned to Alaric, awaiting instructions.
"You can catch up with your old friends or reassure those about to depart. I need to make a trip to Moon City to bring their people over. You'll have plenty of time before I return," Alaric said with a smile.
He knew Colin Iliad had much to handle. In an era without telephones, even using Mister Fool as a relay to contact City of Silver wasn't something Colin would do lightly, given his character. At most, he'd handle critical matters through that channel.
"Thank you, Your Excellency Lucifer," Colin Iliad said sincerely. He indeed had many tasks, like making arrangements for City of Silver's remaining residents based on the outside world's conditions, to help them adapt more quickly.
Alaric smiled without comment, then turned to the others. "Besides picking up Moon City's people, I'm also planning to visit the True Creator. Anyone not want to come?"
"What's there to object to? I may have issues with a certain someone, but I'm not petty enough to take it out on the True Creator," Medici said lazily. Even setting aside the fact that he'd let go of past grudges after stabbing Adam's kidney, his earlier displeasure with the True Creator stemmed only from Adam's true identity. It was never serious enough to avoid facing Him.
"I'm curious about His current state," Adam said with a smile, his eyes glinting with genuine intrigue. His gaze flicked to Sasrir. "Compared to me, He's benefited far more."
Due to his unique state, Adam hadn't been greatly affected by the emergence of the Sun God or others. His humanity's awakening owed much to Alaric's persona mask. But the True Creator was different. His madness had been significantly alleviated by the Sun God's appearance, and with Sasrir now present, His condition could only improve further.
"I should see Him. I need to see Him," Sasrir said, his expression complex as he sighed, gazing in a certain direction.
Sasrir had communicated with this era's True Creator before but had yet to meet Him in person.
"Since everyone's looking forward to this meeting, let's go!" Alaric wasn't surprised by the consensus. With a nod and a smile, the group set off toward the True Creator's location.
After some travel, the True Creator's sanctuary came into view.
This wasn't Alaric's first visit, so he greeted the figure who had sensed their arrival and come to meet them with familiarity. "Good evening, Ouroboros! Long time no see!"
"Good evening, Lucifer!" Ouroboros replied with a pleased smile. His gaze swept over the group, skipping Adam, then brightened as he greeted Medici. Finally, his eyes landed on Sasrir, and he froze.
"…Sasrir?"
This was Ouroboros' first time seeing Sasrir in this era. Though Medici had mentioned Sasrir before, Ouroboros had never witnessed his arrival firsthand.
But he had always held hope, believing that if he waited, he would see Sasrir one day.
Today, that wait had borne fruit.
As Ouroboros stood stunned, Sasrir carefully studied the Angel of Fate. His gaze was thorough, like a parent who hadn't seen their child in ages, eagerly checking their condition.
Confirming that Ouroboros hadn't turned into a troublemaker like Amon, fallen to Medici's strange state as an evil spirit, or become a puppet of an primordial being's will like Aucuses, Sasrir finally smiled. "It's been a long time, Ouroboros. I'm glad to see you're still the same as before."
"I'm glad too, to see you like this, Sasrir," Ouroboros said, mirroring the smile. His expression held a rare mix of nostalgia and faint sorrow. "I could barely remember what you looked like. Ever since…"
He paused, unwilling to utter a certain word, and skipped ahead. "It became hard to recall your face. At first, I could still look at your murals. I painted so many based on my memories of you, but later, those murals were destroyed. After countless memory resets, my recollection grew hazy…"
"Even though I stayed by your side, I could hardly picture your face anymore, Sasrir."
What was it like to watch those around you leave, fall, or become unrecognizable?
Ouroboros, the Angel of Fate, knew this feeling better than anyone. One of the first to follow the Sun God, he had stayed by His side the longest... from the Second Epoch to now, from the Sun God's rise to His fall, and through the True Creator's birth.
Ouroboros was the only one who had accompanied the True Creator from His inception to the present. He had witnessed the True Creator's glory, allied with Solomon to dominate the Northern Continent against the six gods. He had also seen the True Creator's defeat, sealed by those same gods after Medici and Solomon's successive falls.
