No one could believe it, especially those within the image. They were even more unwilling to accept it. If this were true, what was the point of all their efforts?
They didn't believe it, couldn't believe it, and refused to believe it!
War Machine Rhodes said, with a hint of panic, "Let's search thoroughly. He's definitely lying!"
But Nebula refuted his view. "My father is capable of anything, but he never lies!"
She knew all too well how proud her adoptive father was. He disdained lying and never concealed his true intentions.
He had always stated and acted upon his goal of eliminating half of the universe's life.
He never bothered to hide his secrets from anyone, because he saw himself as so righteous and transparent that there was nothing to conceal. This was the pride of Thanos.
And Nebula understood this perfectly.
If Thanos had said it, then it must be the truth.
"Ah, thank you, my daughter!" Thanos said, pleased to hear her words. "Perhaps I was too harsh on you!"
Thanos had just finished speaking, and seemed about to say more, but he would never get the chance. His words had utterly enraged the furious Thor.
In his rage, Thor brought down his axe and severed Thanos's head.
Even those reading the diary outside the scene could feel Thor's fury.
Thanos had lost so much—his people, his beloved brother Loki. Overnight, he had become utterly alone.
Without his people, without his family.
The so-called king had become a colossal joke.
He had become the king of a fishing village, just as Lin Feng had written in his diary.
How ridiculous was that?
He had done everything he could, and now he wanted to retire? Just say "I'm done" and turn the page? What about his family? What about his people? They were all gone!
And in this situation, Thanos still dared to perform a show of fatherly love and filial piety before him. What was he supposed to do?
How could he allow that?
"What? What did you do?" Rocket Raccoon asked, staring at Thor.
"This time, I went for the head!" Thor said, staring at Thanos's corpse, his words sounding strangely out of place. He then turned and walked away.
But those who had seen the earlier footage understood the meaning behind his words.
It was a reference to Thanos's taunt to Thor: "You should have gone for the head!"
That time, Thor's furious axe strike had only struck Thanos in the chest, leading to the subsequent tragedy. The disaster for Asgard had already occurred and was irreversible.
He had had the chance to prevent a greater catastrophe, to save half the living beings in the universe, but because his axe had missed its mark, he had squandered the perfect opportunity to kill Thanos.
This time, everything was different. He had severed the villain's head.
Yet this act of vengeance brought no solace. The lives extinguished by Thanos's snap could never be restored.
Even if he had severed Thanos's arms, lopped off his head, and claimed final victory, what good would it do? Nothing could ever change.
At the end of the video, Thor's final, lonely figure appeared.
**Shocking! Daughter brings a gang of blondes to confront her old man and demand his stuff. When he refuses, she and the gang chop off his head! (Dog emoji)**
The audience was speechless at Lin Feng's dog-emoji comment.
"Before crossing over, Lin Feng must have studied journalism in his original universe," Tony Stark grumbled. "He's mastered all the hallmarks of the trade!"
The facts were true, but the way he'd phrased it made them sound like villains.
Beside him, Thor's face was as dark as a storm. He showed no joy at the sight of himself beheading Thanos; instead, the scene seemed to bring him profound sorrow.
"He could have prevented all of this, but he didn't. Because he wasn't strong enough!"
Thor clenched his fists, gripping the image tightly.
Everything he wanted to grasp, everything that mattered to him, was slipping through his fingers.
His future self would always be too weak when it mattered most, leading to a cascade of tragedies. His strength would never be enough.
His strength was now truly formidable, not much less than his future self's. But with his current power, he could prevent many tragedies.
For instance, during the Dark Elf invasion, this time he wouldn't let his mother be killed by them.
If his strength were even greater, he could even protect Asgard itself. For example, he could have replaced his father in suppressing his sister, Hela, the goddess of death.
He had stood by helplessly as his people were slaughtered by Thanos, and watched his beloved brother be crushed to death in Thanos's hand.
Later, he had had the opportunity to kill Thanos. If he had been stronger, even without hitting Thanos's head with Stormbreaker, he could have slain him.
But he failed to do so. Each time, the critical factor seemed to be his lack of strength.
If he now possessed Lin Feng's power, many tragedies could have been averted.
As an immortal being, he was insensitive to the passage of time. He couldn't truly grasp Lin Feng's urgency about time—a few years to him felt no different than a few days to an ordinary person.
But now, he felt an overwhelming sense of urgency.
To Thor, the tragedies that followed were a lesson for his early lack of discipline. "Good enough" might suffice for most things, but at critical moments, even the smallest difference could be disastrous.
"But that doesn't add up," Agent Hill interjected. "If that's the case, why would the Avengers' Big Three be fighting Thanos in the first place?"
The group pondered this. The timeline suggested that the Avengers' assault on the Garden Planet occurred shortly after Thanos's snap.
How could Thanos still be alive?
This presented a logical inconsistency.
"It's possible this is from another timeline," Agent Coulson suggested. "Lin Feng never specified it wasn't."
"That's a strong possibility," Captain Rogers agreed. "If this Thanos is telling the truth, he should have destroyed the Infinity Stones. How else could we have collected them? I lean towards a divergent timeline—a branch point. Perhaps this is the one-in-14,000,006 winning chance Doctor Strange mentioned?"
"No, that's impossible," Tony Stark said. "If the timeline unfolds this way, then Doctor Strange wouldn't have been resurrected later, nor would Peter Parker and the others. Would that be the victory he sought? I don't think so!"
The group was now immersed in a sense of confusion, struggling to determine what constituted the "correct" timeline.
Unfortunately, Lin Feng remained silent.
"But regardless of which timeline is right, we must give our all to stop Thanos!" Hawkeye Barton declared.
He had lost his entire family in that battle, without even participating or fully understanding what had happened. It had all vanished in an instant.
Such an outcome was absolutely unacceptable to him.
The others nodded in agreement. Though their experiences weren't identical to Hawkeye's, their feelings were the same.
Thor, who was equally driven by the urgent need to protect his family, shared this view. After a moment, Nick Fury spoke: "This clip reveals two things. First, the Infinity Stones can be destroyed—Wanda already destroyed the Mind Stone in Vision's forehead. Second, Thanos is using an Infinity Stone to destroy another Infinity Stone. This proves that these so-called fundamental stones, which were supposedly present at the dawn of creation, are not indestructible!"
The group nodded in agreement. This was conclusive proof: the Infinity Stones were not some unbreakable fundamental law, but merely stones with extraordinary power.
Tony Stark stroked his chin. He had originally assumed the Infinity Stones were physical manifestations of universal laws, making them impossible to destroy—like trying to destroy a law itself.
But now it seemed they weren't as invincible as he'd imagined.
Meanwhile, in Lin Feng's mansion, a powerful force surged within his palm.
This was the power of faith he possessed as the God of War. To be honest, it was indeed an intoxicating force.
After a moment, Lin Feng stored this mass of faith power away. He could almost feel it growing every moment. He had to resist letting this thing tempt him.
With the Battle of New York concluded, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The next wave wouldn't come for several years.
The crowd waited a while longer, but seeing that Lin Feng had no intention of updating his diary further, they finally dispersed.
Meanwhile, the aftermath of the battle continued to ripple across the world.
Though aliens had existed before, most governments had tacitly agreed to suppress the information. After all, the world was already complex enough; it was better for ordinary people to remain ignorant.
But now, the Chitauri invasion had blown the lid off everything. Decades of alien speculation were suddenly confirmed, igniting a frenzy of interest in extraterrestrial life.
