Chapter 208 - TOA 208: Rhongomyniad

Morpheus and his group were walking toward the Holy City, their pace now much faster than at the start. Resolving the issues of this world as quickly as possible... that was the thought shared among them all.

Even though the world's history would be corrected, reviving those who had died, watching ordinary people be slaughtered like this still left an uncomfortable feeling in their hearts.

At that moment, Morpheus sensed something and lifted his head.

"Everyone, look! What's that in the sky?!" Mash pointed upward, shouting to alert the others.

They all looked up and saw endless dark clouds blanketing the sky. But in one spot, the clouds had been torn open, revealing a band of light stretching across the blue skies... that was Goetia's creation.

However, what drew their attention now wasn't Goetia's band of light, but a massive spear tip radiating golden brilliance. This golden spear, brimming with immense power, was plummeting toward the ground!

Its target was the village they had seen when leaving!

This was an attack infused with divinity, one capable of effortlessly reshaping terrain and vaporizing mountains!

If this strike hit the village below, the entire settlement would be erased, everything reduced to ash, leaving no remnants behind!

"That's the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad!" Medea's eyes widened slightly as she instantly recognized the nature of this descending assault. Beside her, Bedivere's face paled: "That's the king's attack!"

His words were spot on. The Holy Lance Rhongomyniad was in King Arthur's possession, and the one now wielding it for this assault was the Lion King Artoria, who had ascended to divinity!

Mash and Ritsuka's expressions grew serious. Even knowing Morpheus's strength was extraordinarily formidable, they could sense the immense power contained in that thing above... powerful enough that it was hard to tell whether Morpheus was stronger or if this falling holy lance cannon was.

The hot winds of the wasteland suddenly stilled, then resumed with even greater ferocity, as if a violent tornado were about to form.

Morpheus's cashmere trench coat billowed sharply in the heat waves, its double-breasted silver buttons catching cold glints as he tilted his head back.

The four-colored symbols on his inner lining had already begun to activate, gathering the magical energy of the four elements. A cold gleam flashed in Morpheus's eyes.

As he looked up, a crisp crack echoed from his neck... his dynamic vision, pushed beyond human limits, was forcibly tracking the celestial anomaly. In an instant, he had activated his spell, boosting his strength, reactions, and more to over ten times that of an ordinary person.

Mash's right forearm muscles twitched as she raised her shield. The shield's surface hadn't made contact with any attack yet, but the violent air was already reacting under the holy lance's overwhelming pressure!

Even though the holy lance hadn't struck the ground, its vast magical energy and ferocious air pressure were already exerting massive influence on the surroundings. If it continued, humans of flesh and blood would be crushed to death by the pressure alone!

If that happened, those hit by the strike would endure excruciating pain in their final moments!

"Medea, I'll leave it to you!" Morpheus said, raising his right hand.

He wasn't afraid of such an attack, but the shockwave from neutralizing it would undoubtedly be enormous, still affecting the ordinary people below.

Medea understood Morpheus's intent and nodded with a smile. She raised both hands, and in an instant, a massive magic circle appeared around her. It expanded rapidly, forming a pale purple membrane that enveloped the area beneath the holy lance, including the distant village.

With this membrane in place, the oppressive, suffocating atmosphere in the air vanished, and everything seemed to return to calm.

Yet through the membrane, they could still see the holy lance attack drawing ever closer from above. If it struck directly, this layer wouldn't hold.

But Medea knew she didn't need to withstand it herself. Handling the holy lance's assault was something to leave to Morpheus.

Before him, his golden grimoire glowed, revealing the mythic power within... a surging torrent of lightning!

Thunder roared, and massive bolts of electricity gathered within the dark clouds above, crashing down and converging in Morpheus's hand.

This was the lightning of the king of gods, a thunder of judgment infused with the power of the chief deity, the supreme bolt capable of annihilating all!

These lightning bolts coalesced in Morpheus's hand into a long thunder spear. Then, aiming at the descending holy lance in the sky, he hurled it like a javelin.

"Boom!"

In that instant, the thunder spear flew out at supersonic speed, generating shockwaves that wailed through the fractured space.

"Boom!"

With a resounding crash, the holy lance's massive form collided with Morpheus's small thunder spear, triggering a violent explosion. Dazzling light erupted in the air, as if a new sun had suddenly appeared.

Amid that radiance, the holy lance's body slowly rotated, unraveling like a frayed rope before gradually vanishing.

The Lion King's Noble Phantasm attack had been blocked by Morpheus.

This prompted cheers from the group, and even the refugees heading toward the village couldn't help but cry out, loudly thanking the divine salvation.

But soon, new despair arrived.

At the edge of their vision, the sky tore open like parchment rent by a god. The golden tip of the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad pierced through the clouds, slowly pressing downward.

The clouds it touched didn't dissipate but vaporized directly into purple plasma, forming spiral rainbow rings around the shaft.

That was the second one, and then a third... two holy lances descending, bringing even greater pressure than the first!

The air wailed!

Even the world itself seemed to wail!

Above the village, kilometers away, atmospheric pressure multiplied geometrically. The first to collapse were the unfortunate birds... their eyeballs burst within their skulls, blood misting from feather gaps. They had flown too high, lacking the protection of Medea's barrier.

If it were just one, Medea wouldn't worry, but now with two, she asked, "Need any help?"

Morpheus shook his head with a smile. "No need!"

The magical formulas in his grimoire activated swiftly once more. Under the flow of magical energy in his body, they invoked the legendary power of Zeus, forming flickering thunder spears in his hands again!

And there were two!

Morpheus stepped forward powerfully, hurling the first one fiercely, then grabbing the second and aiming at the other holy lance in the sky, throwing it as well!

The two thunder spears struck their targets one after the other, causing intense explosions. The fierce shocks rippled through that area, spreading outward in all directions without mercy or favoritism!

But soon, a third thunder spear appeared and detonated in a self-explosion several hundred meters from the first two.

This thunder spear's blast was weak... very weak, perhaps only half the power or less in comparison.

Yet with the aid of this explosion's shock, the impacts from the previous two holy lances were largely neutralized. Even the remaining waves that hit Medea's protective barrier only caused faint ripples, with no real effect.

"That maneuver... it's kind of like reactive armor!" Ritsuka immediately grasped why Morpheus had done it, and Morpheus nodded lightly, smiling. "As expected of you... sharp as ever!"

Though conversing with Ritsuka, Morpheus didn't let his guard down. He watched the sky, where the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad could be fired repeatedly as a light cannon for long-range attacks. The second volley had been two shots, so three or even four in a row were entirely possible.

If their group proceeded now and the enemy kept attacking, the people here might all perish.

The safest approach right now was probably...

Morpheus pondered for a moment, then turned to Mash and Ritsuka.

"Ritsuka, you and Mash stay here to guard, along with the others. The barrier will protect you, and Mash's shield can serve as defense too. As for you, Ritsuka, remember to go all out when needed. By harnessing the power of Ama no Murakumo, you can neutralize the holy lance's attacks as well."

Ritsuka understood Morpheus's plan. "You're going to charge in solo, reaching the Holy City at top speed to deal with the Lion King?"

"Exactly!" Morpheus nodded, then looked at Bedivere beside him. "You'll come with me. Flying with one person is no problem."

Seeing the Lion King unhesitatingly unleash such devastating power against ordinary civilians filled Bedivere's heart with immense pain. Hearing Morpheus's plan, he knew he had no right to stop him and could only hope to hurry there himself or detach his arm to hand over.

But now, upon hearing Morpheus's invitation, he froze for half a second before nodding immediately, looking at Morpheus with deep gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Morpheus!"

"It's nothing. I just figured this is your destiny... and the Lion King's. The matter between you two needs to be resolved this way. If you can't handle it, I'll step in then."

He turned to Medea. "Sorry, but I'm leaving this to you again."

"Don't worry. I know my role is crucial... these people will be fine." Medea smiled and lightly nudged Jeanne Alter. "So, I'll be counting on you as my personal bodyguard."

Jeanne Alter laughed, full of confidence. "Relax. As long as I'm alive, no one will harm you!"

Seeing everyone willing to cooperate, Morpheus grabbed Bedivere. In that moment, his flight spell activated, and he soared upward, piercing through Medea's barrier and rushing into the clouds above at incredible speed.

"Flying this high?" Bedivere stared in astonishment at their altitude; the people on the ground had shrunk to tiny specks. He had assumed flight relied on some magecraft with limited height, but this surpassed many flying Noble Phantasms.

Then, in an instant, Morpheus's speed broke the sound barrier, leaving a long contrail in the sky.

"I-Is this your magecraft?!" Even the ever-calm Bedivere was now gaping in shock.

"It's magic, not magecraft!" Morpheus shouted in explanation. "Want to learn? I can teach you!"

"N-No, thank you!" Bedivere shook his head but asked in continued amazement, "It's actually magic?!"

Magic was something almost unthinkable... even Merlin likely couldn't claim mastery of many such arts.

"The one you used against the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad... was that magic too?"

"Yes, it's magic. It mimics the lightning of Zeus, the king of gods from Greek mythology. Since it's based on the mythic Zeus, the power and concept replicated are actually stronger than the original Zeus by quite a bit." Morpheus patiently explained further.

"The mythic Zeus? You mean you've met the real Zeus?" Bedivere grew even more astonished. If this man had truly encountered the god-king Zeus, then who exactly was he?

After all, he appeared to be a human, not a Servant. It wasn't a case of a demigod hero from the Age of Gods with divine blood being summoned. In this era, how could divine bloodlines still linger in the world?

Could he, like himself and King Arthur, be an ancient figure lingering in this time due to some special reason?

"Don't overthink it. I'm a human from the future who, due to certain circumstances, time-traveled to the Greek Age of Gods and met the Greek chief god." Morpheus sensed Bedivere's confusion and offered a brief explanation.

At that moment, a light appeared in the distance... a dazzling golden glow hurtling straight toward them!

"Is that an attack from the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad?!"

"Correct. Just as I thought... though it seems to appear suddenly from above when viewed from the ground, the holy lance's attack actually launches from the attacker, ascends, orbits at high altitude, and then re-enters."

Morpheus smiled and suddenly flung Bedivere outward. Bedivere's eyes widened as the roaring wind filled his ears, his mind momentarily blank.

He was being thrown out at over ten thousand meters altitude?!

Then he saw lightning appear in Morpheus's hand once more... a thunder spear, which he hurled toward the oncoming Holy Lance Rhongomyniad!
