Chapter 142 - Chapter 142 - Broken Heart

The Heart of a Traitor

The Groom's Suite at the Phoenix Estate was a masterpiece of masculine luxury—all dark mahogany, plush leather, and the scent of expensive cologne. Felix stood before a floor-to-ceiling mirror, looking lethal in a bespoke midnight-blue velvet tuxedo with satin lapels. His friends were laughing and cracking jokes behind him, but Felix didn't hear them. His face was a mask of cold marble, his thoughts a tangled web of duty and desire.

The Shocking Link

His phone vibrated. He stepped into the private dressing nook to answer his assistant. "I checked the address you sent," the assistant's voice crackled, sounding urgent. "But... Felix, it's the same address as the old house. The one belonging to Andria—I mean, Gabriella."

Felix's eyes narrowed into sharp slits. "What?"

"When I did the background check on her before," the assistant continued, "I went there. The neighbors said the family shifted to Frederick's address. It's the same family, Felix. The piece fits."

Felix's jaw tightened. "Does anyone else know?"

"James found out," the assistant whispered hesitantly. "He knows everything."

Before Felix could process the news, his second phone—his Secret Government Agent line—began to ring. He hung up on his assistant and answered. It was James, his cold-blooded superior.

"The woman you're about to marry," James said, skipping the pleasantries. "She's Richardson's biological daughter. This is the ultimate leverage. We can use her as bait to bring him down and close this mission tonight."

"No," Felix said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, icy level.

James sounded genuinely shocked. "What? Did I hear you right?"

"I said no," Felix repeated, his grip on the phone tightening until his knuckles turned white. "I am not using Gabriella as bait. She stays out of this."

"Are you out of your mind?" James roared, his fury vibrating through the speaker. "I warned you! Don't be an emotional fool. Don't tell me you've actually fallen for her!"

Felix looked at his reflection—the face of a man who was supposed to be a heartless weapon for the state. But all he saw was the woman in the other room, the woman whose tears he had wiped away.

"Yes," Felix said, his voice deep and unwavering. "I love her."

The silence from James was deafening.

"Even if she is my enemy's daughter," Felix continued, "I won't use her for this mission. You assigned me a job, and I will handle it my way. Don't bother me again."

He ended the call, the screen glowing for a second before going black. He smoothed his tuxedo jacket, but his heart was racing. He was now a rogue agent, a man standing between his government and the woman he was supposed to destroy.

The Grand Cliffside Terrace overlooked the churning turquoise waters of the Arabian Sea. It was a dreamlike wedding venue, where the salty breeze carried the scent of expensive champagne and white lilies. Gabriella stepped out of her bridal suite, her heavy ivory silk train sweeping the marble floor like a restless cloud.

She stopped when she saw it—a silk handkerchief lying abandoned near the door. She picked it up, her fingers trembling. Felix. She tucked it into her lace sleeve and walked toward the balcony, the wind catching her wafted tulle veil, making it dance in the air like a ghost.

As she stood overlooking the seaside altar, a shadow fell over her. She turned to see Felix. He looked devastatingly handsome in his midnight-blue velvet tuxedo, but his eyes were dark and wild.

Before she could utter his name, he lunged forward. His hand gripped her cheek with a fierce possessiveness, and he crushed his lips against hers. It was an intense, wild kiss, a desperate collision of tongues and teeth that tasted of salt and unspoken goodbyes. Gabriella froze, her eyes widening in shock as his other hand locked around her waist, pulling her so close she could feel the frantic thrumming of his heart against her ribs.

The sea breeze whipped her dress around them in a flawless, chaotic swirl. Finally, Gabriella found her strength. She pushed him back, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Felix! What... what are you doing?" she panted, her face flushed.

Felix pulled back, his chest heaving. The fire in his eyes died out, replaced by a cold, hollow void. "Follow your heart, Gabriella," he said, his voice dropping to a low, painful rasp. "Don't consider anyone else. It's your life. You only get one chance to live—why should you be the one to sacrifice?"

He scoffed, a jagged sound of self-hatred, and refused to meet her gaze. "I know who is really in your heart," he whispered. "Go. Make the choice yourself."

Gabriella felt the weight of his words crashing over her like the waves below. "Felix..." she whispered, her eyes filling with tears.

"Go!" he commanded.

Gabriella turned and began to run. She didn't look back. She sprinted toward the exit, her white gown shimmering against the stone as she disappeared into the distance. She had to clear her mind; she had to find her own truth before the rings were exchanged.

Felix stood perfectly still, watching the spot where she vanished. A single, bitter tear traced a path down his cheek. He let out a hollow, broken laugh that faded into the sound of the crashing surf. He bit his lip until it bled, the pain a welcome distraction from the hole in his chest.

"Felix?"

He spun around to see his sister, Nancy, standing there in a shimmering champagne-gold gown. Her bright smile vanished the moment she saw the devastation on his face.

"What happened? Why do you look like the world just ended?" she asked, rushing to his side.

Felix looked at her, his voice trembling and raw. "Why does it always happen to me, Nancy? When I don't want something, it sticks to me like a curse. But when I actually... when I finally want something for myself... it goes away. Why?"

He collapsed into her arms, hugging her tightly as he closed his eyes, another tear falling.

Nancy held him, stroking his hair as a look of deep worry crossed her face. She leaned in and whispered, "Felix... are you still missing Jane? "Nancy is unaware of what happened here.

Felix didn't reply. He only tightened his grip, his silence louder than any confession.

The Garden of Truth & Ashes

The side hallway of the Phoenix Estate was a long, echoing stretch of white marble and gold leaf. Far from the buzzing crowds of the ballroom, it was eerily silent. Gabriella hurried through, her ivory silk gown rustling against the cold floor. The heavy lace of her sleeves felt like a cage, and her diamond-encrusted crown weighed on her head like a leaden burden.

"Gabriella."

The voice was like a whip. Gabriella stopped and turned. Raina stood there, looking sharp and lethal in a shimmering silver floor-length gown that hugged her like snake scales. She chuckled, a mocking, hollow sound.

"The wedding is in an hour," Raina said, a cruel smirk playing on her lips. "Running away already?"

Gabriella's eyes were like ice, devoid of any emotion. "I have no time for you," she said coldly, turning to walk away.

"Not even time for Jake?"

Gabriella froze. Her heart skipped a beat, but she didn't move. Raina stepped in front of her, her expression suddenly turning grave.

"I heard you think Jake was behind Kevin's death," Raina said, her voice dropping to a serious, low tone. Gabriella scoffed, but Raina didn't flinch. "I know you won't believe me, but it's the truth. He had nothing to do with it."

Raina looked directly into Gabriella's eyes. "I've already lost my love. I'm not going to let my best friend lose his, too. I'm doing this for him, not for you. Decide for yourself."

With a final, cold chuckle, Raina walked away, leaving Gabriella standing in the shadows of the hallway, her mind a chaotic storm of doubt.

The Vanishing Bride

Back at the main venue, the tension was rising. Nancy, dressed in a champagne-gold silk dress, rushed up to Fiona. "Is she ready? The guests are waiting!"

"I think so," Fiona replied, looking toward the bridal suite.

Dona arrived at that moment, her face a mask of fake smiles. "Yes, she's ready," she lied, her voice steady. Nancy let out a tiny sigh of relief, whispering to herself, "This marriage has to happen."

But the moment Nancy turned away, Dona slipped over to Ajax. She leaned in close, whispering into his ear. Ajax's eyes widened in total shock. "What?! She's not there?"

Dona slammed her hand over his mouth. "Lower your voice!"

Ajax dragged her into a secluded corner. "Where did she go? If she didn't want this wedding, why let it get this far? What is she thinking?!"

"I don't know!" Dona hissed. "Just keep searching the grounds. I'll keep calling her."

The Messy Reunion

A few miles away from the seaside venue, hidden behind a grove of ancient trees, lay a secluded stone garden. The air here was cool, smelling of damp earth and salt. Gabriella stood in the center of the greenery, her white wedding dress a stark contrast to the dark moss and stone.

She pulled out her phone, her fingers trembling as she dialed. "Jake? Where are you? I have to talk to you... now."

"I'm here," a voice rasped. "Turn around."

Gabriella spun around. Her breath caught in her throat. Jake stood before her, looking like a man who had fought his way through hell. His expensive black suit was a mess, his white shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, and his hair was wildly disheveled. He was breathing heavily, his chest heaving with exhaustion.

But it was his eyes that broke her. They weren't cold or vengeful. They were filled with a deep, raw, and undeniable love that made Gabriella's icy walls finally crumble.
