Dydra threw herself onto the bed, kicking off her boots as they landed carelessly on the floor. She buried herself beneath the soft sheets, allowing the tension in her aching muscles to slowly melt away. She had succeeded. No knight would attack her again.
She told herself there was nothing left to worry about.
Yet her mind refused to rest.
Why hadn't she heard anything from her grandmother? Why did it feel as though a strange darkness was quietly brewing inside her? And when night finally claimed her, would the nightmares return?
The questions lingered, circling endlessly in her thoughts. But exhaustion proved stronger. Her eyes remained closed, and before long, sleep claimed her.
A knock echoed through the cottage. Leonard was the one to answer the door.
Standing on the other side was Brimwood, who bowed respectfully to the crown prince.
"A letter, Your Highness."
