Two days had passed since the attack, and the ship still had another two days before it would reach the kingdom. The worst of the injuries had been treated, the damaged parts of the ship had been secured, and the crew had slowly returned to their usual duties. Even so, the atmosphere remained subdued. The attack had left a shadow over everyone, especially with the loss of one of their own.
Lannae sat near the side of the ship with her injured leg stretched carefully before her, watching the waves roll against the hull. She was grateful to have been rescued, but she also found herself enjoying the journey more than she expected. Being away from the palace gave her a sense of freedom she rarely experienced. There were no endless duties waiting for her, no walls surrounding her, and no constant expectation of how a princess ought to behave. For the first time in a long while, she could simply sit and watch the sea.
A familiar voice pulled her from her thoughts.
