Chapter 300 - Chapter 12: A Deal on the Table

Emiya had no issue learning a new meditation method.

Especially a top-tier one.

So after breakfast, he learned the meditation method from Medea.

To ensure Emiya fully understood it, Medea broke it down and explained each part step by step.

Emiya wasn't foolish.

He grasped it quickly and began his first attempt.

As he entered meditation, he sensed the vast mana filling the atmosphere and slowly drew it into his body, where it merged with his own.

During the process, his mana was refined.

Denser. More stable. More powerful.

This was the advantage of a top-tier meditation method.

Emiya was genuinely impressed.

Up until now, he had let the mana in his body circulate freely.

The reason was simple.

He had never had a proper way to train magic.

For example, to learn Haki, he trained his body.

To learn Nen, he used Greed to strengthen the aura within him.

For the Breathing Styles, there were breathing techniques.

Telekinesis could be trained directly.

As for Devil Fruits, there was no need to elaborate.

They could also be improved through training.

But mana was different.

Emiya hadn't originally possessed mana at all.

It was only after registering as an adventurer in Axel that mana naturally appeared in his body.

Every time he killed a monster and leveled up, his mana increased.

But that growth was passive.

He had never actively trained mana, because he lacked a suitable method.

As a result, compared to Haki, Nen, or telekinesis, his mana had always lagged behind.

Now, with "Solomon's Wisdom," that weakness was finally addressed.

Mana could also be strengthened through training.

And compared to abilities like Haki or Nen, mana was far more adaptable across worlds.

It was almost universal.

Nen could awaken special abilities, but usually only one or a few.

Mana was different.

It was the foundation of spellcasting.

Without mana, magic was impossible.

And magic was broad.

Close combat. Long range.

Destruction. Creation.

Killing. Resurrection.

Elements. Undead.

Space. Time.

All of it fell under magic.

So having strong mana was never a disadvantage.

That was precisely why Emiya was willing to learn this meditation method.

...

As dusk approached, Kimberly dragged Emiya out of his dorm and brought him to the academy's great lecture hall.

When Emiya asked what they were doing here, Kimberly answered directly.

"An awards ceremony."

"An awards ceremony?" Emiya looked at her.

"For what? And for who?"

"For you. And Akabane Raishin."

"Me?" Emiya immediately ignored Raishin. "Why am I getting an award?"

"Did you already forget the Magic Devourer incident?" Kimberly asked.

"The Disciplinary Committee chairman caused quite a stir inside and outside the academy. The headmaster decided to turn you and Akabane Raishin into heroes to redirect attention."

She paused.

"And there may also be a bit of currying favor involved."

Only then did Emiya understand.

Yesterday, he had exposed Alisa's true identity.

Akabane Raishin had captured Felix.

Together, they resolved the Magic Devourer incident.

From a certain perspective, they were indeed heroes.

But Emiya wasn't interested in that role.

He clicked his tongue.

"What a hassle. Can I skip it?"

"You can," Kimberly replied. "But I think you should attend. It won't take long."

She smiled faintly.

"And afterward, something good will be waiting for you."

Emiya considered it briefly.

"Fine."

Ten minutes later, the ceremony began.

"Raishin Akabane, step forward."

Headmaster Edward's voice echoed through the cold lecture hall.

Raishin walked out from the crowd and stood before him.

Emiya remembered that in the original sequence of events, Raishin had fought Felix and won, but at great cost.

Now, thanks to Emiya's interference and the ring, Raishin was completely unharmed.

Not a scratch on him.

Headmaster Edward looked at Raishin.

"I, Edward Rutherford, hereby recognize you as a Demon King candidate and grant you permission to participate in Walpurgis Night."

Someone presented a silver tray bearing a glove.

Sewn with gold thread.

Made of fine silk.

Radiant and elegant.

Because Raishin's right arm was still in a cast, Yaya accepted it on his behalf.

Lowering his voice, the headmaster continued in a friendly tone.

"From this moment on, you are a Glove Holder. I hope you will serve as an example and grow into an outstanding automaton maker."

Raishin nodded and stepped back.

Then it was Emiya's turn.

Headmaster Edward acknowledged Emiya's status and formally removed the title of "assistant."

Instead, he granted Emiya an official teaching position at the Royal Academy of Machinart, along with permission to host an elective course.

The announcement caused visible shock.

This was the highest academy in the world.

Even teaching an elective course wasn't something just anyone could do.

Emiya rolled his eyes.

He had no interest in teaching.

Especially not here.

The headmaster's goodwill was completely wasted on him.

After the ceremony, Emiya, Kimberly, and Raishin left together.

Despite the late hour, a crowd had gathered outside.

Many students were waiting for Raishin.

Most wore formal attire, just as he did.

While a few showed jealousy or displeasure, the majority were clearly congratulatory.

It took Raishin a few seconds to realize that.

Seeing he wasn't needed, Emiya turned to Kimberly.

"So," he said, "can you tell me what this 'good thing' is now?"

Kimberly nodded.

"Yes. Follow me."

As she turned to leave with Emiya, Raishin suddenly called out.

"Wait, Professor Kimberly."

She stopped.

"What is it, Hero?"

"I want to ask you something."

"Go ahead."

"You proctored the academic exam," Raishin said.

"You know I barely have any knowledge. So why didn't you laugh when I said I wanted to become the Demon King?"

Kimberly seemed momentarily surprised.

Her eyes flickered before she answered quietly.

"It's simple. I also lacked knowledge in the past."

She continued.

"Everyone has a reason to learn. And you must have yours."

"That's all."

Raishin bowed slightly, then turned to join the crowd.

Emiya commented casually, "You sound like a woman with a story."

Kimberly resumed walking.

"Everyone has one."

Emiya nodded.

"I like women with stories."

"So that's why you cheated on Jason?" Kimberly asked lightly.

Emiya laughed.

"You've got it wrong. When I met Medea, her relationship with Jason was already over."

Kimberly froze, speechless for a moment.

Emiya offered no further explanation.

They walked in silence.

Soon, they returned to the teachers' dormitory.

Emiya finally asked, "Don't tell me the good thing is just a better room."

Now that he was officially a teacher, that would be normal.

"Of course not," Kimberly said. "Follow me."

She led him into her dorm room and opened the door.

Emiya followed.

This wasn't his first time here.

But this time, someone else was present.

A woman of overwhelming beauty.

The kind that made you instinctively hold your breath.

She wore a kimono-like dress with an open chest.

Her full, pale curves were impossible to ignore.

A blindfold-like eyepiece covered her right eye, as if deliberately concealing her radiance.

She smiled flirtatiously, her voice clear like a plucked zither.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, young man from another world."

"I am the one you've been seeking."

"Karyuusai Shouko."

Emiya was briefly surprised.

Then he recovered.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Karyuusai Shouko. I'm Emiya."

Shouko smiled, languid as she sat on the sofa.

"I've heard you wanted to meet me."

"That's right," Emiya replied.

"I believe you already know why."

"Kimberly said you want to recruit me," Shouko said.

Her tone was relaxed.

"Yes."

"Then," she asked, "what price are you willing to pay?"

Emiya raised an eyebrow.

"It seems Miss Karyuusai Shouko doesn't mind the idea of being recruited."
