Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: THE MYSTERIOUS ENCOUNTER

Patrick's finger trembled over the answer button. The unknown caller had piqued his curiosity, and he needed answers. With a deep breath, he swiped to answer.

"Hello?" Patrick said, his voice firm but cautious.

The line remained silent for a moment before the mysterious voice spoke again. "Patrick, we need to meet in person. Your safety depends on it."

As Patrick weighed his options, the voice provided a location and time for the meeting. Patrick's mind racing, he agreed to attend, unsure what lay ahead.

Patrick's heart pounded as he agreed to the meeting. The voice gave him an address in a seedy part of town, warning him to come alone.

"Be careful, Patrick," the voice said before hanging up.

Patrick's mind was racing. Who was this person? What did they want? He looked around his room, feeling a sense of unease.

As he pondered his next move, Patrick's phone buzzed with a text from Sophia: "Where are you? I've been looking all over for you."

Patrick's dilemma deepened. Should he tell Sophia about the meeting or keep it a secret?

Patrick hesitated, unsure whether to involve Sophia. He decided to keep the meeting a secret for now, not wanting to worry her unnecessarily. He typed out a quick response: "Just out for a walk, I'll be back soon."

Sophia replied almost immediately: "Be careful, it's getting late. I'll see you when you get back."

Patrick felt a pang of guilt for not being entirely truthful, but he pushed the feeling aside, focusing on the mysterious meeting ahead.

As Patrick left his house, the darkness outside seemed to mirror his uncertainty.

"Would he find answers or more questions?"

As Patrick walked to the meeting location, the darkness seemed to heighten his senses. Every step echoed through the quiet streets, and he couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched.

Upon arriving at the address, Patrick saw a figure standing in the shadows. The figure stepped forward, revealing a woman with piercing green eyes.

"You're Patrick," she stated, her voice low and mysterious.

Patrick nodded, his heart racing. "Who are you?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

The woman smiled, her eyes glinting in the dim light. "I'm someone who knows your family's secrets," she said, her words sending a shiver down Patrick's spine.

Patrick's mind was filled with questions as the woman led him deeper into the night, further into the unknown.

As the woman led Patrick deeper into the night, he felt a growing sense of unease. Who was this mysterious figure, and what secrets did she hold about his family?

"Tell me what you know," Patrick demanded, trying to keep his voice firm.

The woman chuckled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "All in due time, Patrick. First, you need to understand the truth about your family's past."

Patrick's frustration grew. "What do you mean? Just tell me!"

The woman's expression turned serious. "Your family's secrets are complex, Patrick. But I'll give you a choice: walk away now, or learn the truth and face the consequences."

Patrick hesitated, weighing his options.

"What would he choose?"

Patrick's heart pounded as he considered the woman's words. He thought about the strange occurrences and unexplained events that had been happening around him, and his curiosity got the better of him.

"I'll learn the truth," he said finally, his voice firm.

The woman nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Very well. But be warned, Patrick, once you know, you can't go back."

She led him to a small, dimly lit room, filled with old files and dusty boxes. "This is where the truth begins," she said, handing him a folder.

As Patrick opened the folder, a piece of paper slipped out, revealing a shocking family tree diagram. His eyes widened as he saw the connections, the lies, and the secrets.

Patrick's world was turned upside down. What other secrets lay hidden, and how would this new information change his life?

Patrick's eyes scanned the diagram, his mind reeling from the revelations. He felt betrayed, confused, and angry. The woman watched him, her expression unreadable.

"This can't be true," Patrick said, his voice shaking with emotion. "My family would have told me."

The woman's expression didn't change. "Would they? Or would they keep it hidden, like they've always done?"

Patrick's anger boiled over. "Who are you to claim you know my family's secrets? What proof do you have?"

The woman smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "I have proof, Patrick. And soon, you'll see it for yourself."

She handed him another folder, filled with documents and photographs. Patrick's eyes widened as he saw the evidence, his anger turning to shock and despair.

Patrick's world was torn apart. Would he be able to reconcile his past and present, or would the secrets destroy everything he thought he knew?

Patrick's anger reached a boiling point as he confronted the woman. "You're trying to destroy my family, aren't you?" he accused, his voice trembling with rage.

The woman's expression remained calm, but a hint of sadness flickered in her eyes. "I'm trying to reveal the truth, Patrick. Your family isn't what you think it is."

Patrick's fists clenched, and he took a step closer to the woman. "You're just a manipulative liar," he spat.

The woman didn't flinch. "I'm willing to show you the proof, Patrick. Are you willing to see it?"

As the tension between them grew, Patrick's phone buzzed with an incoming call from Sophia. He hesitated, wondering whether to answer it or confront the woman further.

As Patrick's phone buzzed, he felt torn between answering it and confronting the woman. The woman's eyes locked onto his, a hint of a challenge in her gaze.

"Answer it," she said, her voice low. "See how much you can really trust those around you."

Patrick's thumb hovered over the screen as he hesitated. Suddenly, the woman's eyes flicked towards the door, and she mouthed a single word: "Run."

As Patrick's heart raced, the sound of footsteps echoed outside the room. The woman's eyes locked onto his, and she whispered: "It's too late. They're here."
