Chapter 77 - Rule holes

Adam: Greg... Before the Point Poker game, I told you that Todor came to me and after some talk, he started to count back, and as he said one, the radio in the hotel spoke up, asking every player to gather in the main hall. I have a feeling you have an explanation on how Todor did that too.

Greg: Hehehe, yeah. One thing is for sure, the game announcements can happen at any random time. There is no system to it and is most likely not predictable, even though Todor hacked the system.

Adam: Then how?

Greg: Simple, he didn't know.

Adam: What? But-!

Greg: Calm down. He didn't know, yet he was the only one who could have done it. Let me ask you a question before I would tell you actually. So far at that point of the game, what kind of games were being created in the show?

Adam: The games? Uh- Wait, we did mention it, don't we? The games always had some grey area, a hole in the rules!

Greg: That is right, but it's not just that, what is the meaning of them? Think Adam, I think you can get into the conclusion yourself.

Adam: What? No I am sure not! I wouldn't even think there is anything beyond just the fact that the game master likes these kinds of games!

Greg: No Adam, I wanna hear you say it. You can notice a pattern, something about those holes.

Adam: I, don't know...

Oli: You should tell him.

Greg: No, I won't tell him anything further from the plan if he can't deduce it.

Adam: ...

Oli: Useless...

Adam: W- wait...

Oli: Wait? What?

Greg: Hehe, you figured it out?

Adam: Is it that... it was always... and Todor was the only one who could use them in his advantage.

Greg: Right! So what does that mean? That they were specifically made for Todor to find!

Adam: And he did find them... That also means the game master knew Todor very well, right?!

Greg: Suddenly so sharp! Yeah, indeed! So the conclusion is that the game master or the CEO wanted him to win! This is why I wanted to be eliminated in the Point Poker game and "win" in a different path.

Adam: By the way. Then what you two did in that game then was all just an act?

Oli: You want to know if I was acting? The answer is yes. I knew what would happen already.

Adam: Oh, so you wanted to misdirect Todor? I think you two succeeded, no one could tell even Todor.

Greg: Well... It's not only about that.

Adam: The hell?! Then what else!?

Greg: We also wanted to trick the game masters that we are enemies! Oh I almost forgot, we wanted to trick you to think that as well Adam.

Adam: It wouldn't be you, right?

Greg: Hey, it was actually important for the plan, you will understand.

Adam: I still don't get something. How in the hell you two were able to communicate then? You two literally didn't leave a single giveaway on the fact that you two are allies in secret.

Greg: I'm actually glad you asked. So after I found out that Todor is a player as well in the show, I started seeking for an ally, and found Oli who might worth it to be one, so I wrote a message to a piece of paper, but I didn't handle it to Oli yet, because I knew I will be playing in the same match as him. Since I didn't want anyone to have even the slightest chance to notice we have ever communicated.

Adam: So you were waiting for the perfect moment?

Greg: Exactly, and then it happened, the perfect moment.

Adam: Wait! Was it when... Todor out of nowhere stood up and said "I go out"?

Greg: Yes, the cameras were showing Todor, every player and even the referee watching what Todor is doing, so I was easily able to slip the piece of paper into Oli's pocket without anyone noticing.

Adam: What if he would have noticed it right away and read it right there?

Greg: That was part of my plan, I knew it could happen. I put the message into his pocket so he can feel that I did that. If he checks right away, then I know he is not worth being my ally.

Adam: And the reason for that is..?

Oli: I knew he timed that. He would have done it before if it wouldn't be because he wanted our communication to stay hidden. So I knew that I should only check it in my room for example, where there are no cameras that could catch me reading it.

Greg: I wanted a very smart ally, especially if facing Todor, but it was still only the 1st phase of the verification for him to become my ally.

Adam: Really? So... Even the message itself was a code to crack?

Greg: Yeah, it was. The message was actually a blueprint-like drawing of the ground floor of the hotel and two numbers that represented coordinates and one word, which was "untrackable". This was the puzzle given to him by me.

Oli: I figured out that the untrackable is connected to the only room that is not trackable because there are no cameras in there, it was the restroom of course. There the floor is covered with square tiles, the coordinates were the rows and columns of the tiles, and the only one that was corresponding to the coordinates was removable, under it was a hidden message, and from that point on, we used it to communicate.

Adam: Woah... that's... impressive, I guess.

Greg: Eventually, he solved it as you know it already.

Adam: WAIT-!

Greg: . . . . . I'm listening.

Adam: I got what you just explained to me now, but back to Point Poker, why wasn't you the one to win instead of Oli?

Greg just smirks at first, then starts laughing

Greg: You see... That's what I was planning originally... But if I would have done that... Then I would take a step... Right into a trap... that Todor placed... Directly just for me.
