The moment she heard Leo's voice calling her name, Lily's heart leapt.
Unable to hide her joy, she turned sharply, her gaze locking onto Leo, who was running straight toward her.
But then she noticed it.
A swirling reddish-black portal silently blooming into existence just behind him.
The moment it appeared, a chill ran down her spine.
The energy spilling out of it was revolting—so indescribably ugly, twisted, and overwhelmingly evil that it made her skin crawl.
Leo was still running toward her, completely unaware.
Then, in the very next instant, a pressurized beam of blood-red liquid shot out from the portal.
And went straight for him.
It happened too fast.
Way too fast.
She didn't even get the chance to warn him before the attack pierced straight through his heart.
Blood exploded from his chest, spraying outward as if his own blood had been forced through a ruptured pressure pipe.
