Hate, anger, and fear— those were the emotions Evangeline most often saw in the eyes of those who dared to look at Hades with anything less than reverence. Even among his own subordinates, there was a different shade to their gazes such as respect, sometimes admiration, and more often a careful restraint shaped by loyalty and caution. But Crius was different. What flickered in his eyes was neither fear nor devotion. It wasn't even curiosity.
It was pity.
Sometimes Crius would gaze at him as if he knew what Hades went through but didn't want to make it obvious, so there was always a strange subtle which only now did Evangeline understood.
