P.E.G.A.S.U.S. Facility – New Mexico

The desert night trembled with power.

Miles beneath the sand, in a labyrinth of reinforced tunnels and humming generators, the Tesseract blazed with unnatural life. What had once been silent containment was now a storm of light and sound. It was moved from deep storage to the facility.

Technicians shouted over the alarms, data flooding across monitors faster than the systems could process. Dr. Erik Selvig stood before the energy core, eyes wide.

"It's moving on its own!" He yelled. "We're not doing this!"

Agent Maria Hill rushed in with a squad of security personnel and behind her strode Director Nick Fury, his long coat trailing in the wind that seemed to rise from nowhere.

"Talk to me, Selvig."

"The Tesseract's behaving like it's… alive," Selvig answered, voice trembling. "Someone or something is making contact. We're pulling maximum containment power, but it's not helping!"

A sudden pulse of blue energy erupted from the Cube, blasting the chamber in waves of light. Instruments shattered. Power died. The entire facility groaned as though reality itself had cracked.

Hill barked orders. "Evacuate! Seal lower levels!"

But before anyone could move, the beam hit the central dais. Space twisted, bent inward and opened.

A shape formed out of the light: a man cloaked in emerald, black and gold, crowned with a gleaming golden horned helm. His eyes burned with cold amusement.

Loki of Asgard had arrived.

He landed lightly, as though gravity itself bowed to him, the scepter in his hand glowing with blue fire. The Tesseract's pulse mirrored the weapon's heartbeat.

Fury steadied himself, hand on his pistol. "Sir, please put down the spear."

Loki's smile was razor-thin. "Ah… I see the mortals have been busy since last we met. So much machinery. So much ambition." His gaze swept the room, hungry. "And yet you play with powers beyond your understanding."

He raised his hand. The scepter flashed.

The blast sent agents flying; the air itself screamed. Loki stepped forward, calm amid chaos and placed the scepter's tip against Selvig's chest. Blue light rippled over the scientist's eyes. They turned glassy, obedient.

Then he turned to the man aiming an arrow at him. Clint Barton, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

"You have heart," Loki murmured, pressing the scepter to Barton's sternum. The same light consumed him. When the glow faded, Hawkeye straightened, face empty of doubt, now bound to the will of the god.

Loki spun the scepter once, looking around at the ruin he'd wrought. "You were made to be ruled," he said softly. "In the end, you will always kneel."

Fury holstered his gun, glare unflinching. " We have no quarrel with Asgard."

For a heartbeat, the two simply stared at each other. Mortal defiance against divine arrogance. Then Loki smirked.

"An ant has no quarrel with a boot."

He blasted Fury across the floor.

Selvig and Barton were already moving, following Loki as he strode toward the Cube's containment unit. He plucked it effortlessly from its cradle—the energy stabilizers failing instantly.

"Sir! He's got the Tesseract!" Hill shouted, opening fire.

The hallway erupted in chaos. Fury rolled behind cover, pulling a small case from his coat and slamming a tracker beacon onto the Cube's transport unit. "Let him go. We need eyes on that Cube."

Moments later, the entire subterranean complex began collapsing as the Tesseract overloaded. Loki, Selvig, Barton and a handful of enthralled agents escaped in one of the facility's trucks.

The rest of the personnel scrambled for the surface as the P.E.G.A.S.U.S. Facility imploded behind them, consumed by an implosion of blue fire that reached into the night sky.

Surface – Minutes Later

Hill's helicopter hovered above the devastation. Fury stood on the sand, wind whipping his coat, the scorched desert glowing faintly with residual energy.

Hill's voice came through the comm. "Sir, the Cube?"

"Gone," Fury said flatly, staring into the burning horizon. "So is half my team and the tracker beacon."

He knelt, pressing the transmitter on his wrist. "Coulson, you reading this?"

Coulson's voice came through static. "I am, sir."

"We're at war."

"With who?"

Fury looked toward the stars. "Someone we don't have a name for yet. But they've got the Cube and that makes them everyone's problem."

He paused, then spoke the words that would change the world once again:

"Activate the Avengers Initiative."

New York – Parker Tower

Peter jerked awake in his penthouse, the residual hum from the Celestial Forge resonating faintly through the air. Gwen stirred beside him.

"Peter…?"

He looked toward the night sky, where faint streaks of blue energy danced on the horizon. Remnants of something cosmic that no human technology could hide. Yet.

His voice was barely a whisper. "It's started. Gwen we are at war."

The world's greatest minds had just declared war against a god.

And the web of destiny had begun to tighten.
