'Almost four billion, eh? Damn, it's good to be rich... Ah, this salt and vinegar flavor is much better than the BBQ ones, not bad, as far as chippies from the Alliance go, anyway. They ain't as good as the ones from back home either...'
Max was munching on a large bag of chips, sourced from the Alliance, and he pulled out one handful after another while riding atop Zephyr, which was in its battle form currently.
Normally, this pet Beast Soul happily rode on Max's shoulder in its cute, chibi form. Today, however, Max preferred to be carried. He relaxed on his mount—snacking, smoking, and reviewing his status inventory—while exactly thirteen spheres of condensed God Dust orbited them in a slow loop.
It had been long enough since the last attempted robbery, and Max knew through [Destiny] that an attack would be coming his way at any moment; he was going to deal with this minor annoyance hands-free so that he could smoke and eat on his way to a destination he was excited to experience.
Today was a special day. It was evolution day.
Several days of selling Beast Souls and partying at Glory Shelter had been busy and eventful—in a good way - now Max was really satisfied with his time spent in the First God's Sanctuary and ready to move onto the next Sanctuary.
Max was all done playing shop. He decided it was time to power level for the rest of the duration of this Jump, and was now finally on his way to visit the evolution pool.
Max didn't want to cause a commotion in Glory Shelter with the upcoming episode of 'Theft Target' incoming, so he hit the road and headed towards Steel Armor Shelter—deciding to deal with the attempted robbery away from the city, he also wouldn't be disturbed while visiting the evolution pool this way.
As of last night, Max and his company had managed to sell nearly everything they had, with Max's remaining personal stock of generic Sacred Blood Beast Souls being split evenly between Biao Zhang, Yang Ming, and Wang Wei.
Each had received five, and if they sold them, they and their families would be able to live more than comfortably for generations to come.
This was Max's payment for their five years of service. One Beast Soul per year each, which equated to millions of dollars in salary for being errand boys and keeping Max company.
Three individual notes had been left in each of the rooms where Biao Zhang, Wang Wei, and Yang Ming were passed out from too much good wine and food.
Each one read more or less the same, with Max asking all of his now-ex-henchmen to stay in the First God's Sanctuary and not to follow him, as their futures wouldn't look so good in the Second God's Sanctuary if they became evolvers.
It would be impossible to know where you would teleport to when you entered the Second God's Sanctuary for the first time, and Max would have no way of locating the three men.
[Destiny] had already revealed to Max that it was for the best the three stayed where they were in the First God's Sanctuary anyway... or retired entirely—to avoid a gruesome departure from this life in the Second God's Sanctuary.
He also warned them not to cross the 'Ass Freak', Han Sen, no matter what.
So, early—very early—in the morning, right after leaving the notes, Max, still disguised as Sabretooth, left Glory Shelter and immediately held a hand toward the woods where the floating island was still cloaked.
Several items residing inside the metal building suddenly vanished, accompanied by small flashes of light, all being recalled into Max's sea of soul.
Moments later, the entire alloy storefront sank while dissolving into the island, leaving the clearing vacant—as if it had never been there at all. If all the signs of battle in the clearing hadn't been evident, you wouldn't be able to guess that anyone had ever conducted business there before.
"Well, that was pretty fun. I'm going to sort of miss those three idiots a little bit... Ah well, at least it won't get lonely with you around, Zeph!"
The Kirin was summoned from Max's sea of soul. After receiving a mental command from Max, it entered battle mode and grew.
Max hopped on Zephyr's back and released his hold on the island's photon cloaking while simultaneously giving up control of its electromagnetic field, letting the floating landmass go back to how it was before—wandering the skies aimlessly.
Max and Zephyr made good time on their way from Glory Shelter to Steel Armor Shelter, and at some point along the road, Max got hungry and decided to have a snack and a smoke while checking out his status, which brings us back to the start of this chapter...
'Ah, it should be any second now...' Max thought to himself while he waited for the last group he would have to deal with in the First God's Sanctuary due to 'Theft Target' to show up.
And sure enough, they showed up—all 13 of them—riding various Beast Soul Mounts, getting in front of Max and demanding he stop.
Max flashed an extra savage, and extra toothy smile belonging to Sabretooth, simply setting the God Dust balls loose in response while offering another salt and vinegar-flavored chip to Zephyr.
A gourd suddenly appeared in Max's hands. He pulled a bottle of pills from his pocket—each one of these small, blue-colored pills was the size of a sesame seed.
One of the pills was thrown into the open gourd, which was then closed and shaken before being downed in a single gulp.
"Man, these dry, condensed, juice-crystal pills never cease to amaze... One speck of it is good enough to make a pitcher of water taste awesome... What do you think, Zephie? Good chippies, eh?"
The God Dust balls, controlled by Max, pummeled their targets, moving around way too fast to be blocked or dodged. Zephyr nodded its head up and down in acknowledgment of Max's earlier question.
The sunlight caught on some of the jade-like scales on the Kirin's head as it nodded, so Max summoned the Reed Specials, making himself look extra gangster as he lit up another smoke.
By the time smoke started to trail from the end of the freshly lit cigarette, thirteen unconscious bodies had hit the ground, and 13 orbs slowly hovered before turning back into metal particles and disappearing into Max's sea of soul.
"Well, that was kinda nifty. Now they've all seen 'my' face—sorry, Sabretooth. Looks like you're getting pinned for assault in another reality... Hahaha!"
Max laughed and then turned off the image inducer on his wrist. The rugged look and clothing normally belonging to the X-Men Evolution variant of Victor Creed, aka Sabretooth, faded away, replaced by the blue hair and other features of Toriko he was emulating in this Jump.
The standard orange jumpsuit the image inducer normally produced faded from view as well, revealing their true form: the black and white tracksuit he had been wearing when he entered this Jump.
A thick, black, hair-tie Beast Soul was summoned, and Max tied his hair back into a samurai-like knotted hairstyle—aka a 'man bun.'
Despite joking about framing Sabretooth, Max didn't really care if anyone knew what his face looked like from this point on, as he wouldn't be sticking around one area and operating a Beast Soul store any longer.
He planned to roam the Second God's Sanctuary like a 'warrior-nomad,' doing battle, getting stronger—rinse and repeat.
Max took back Zephyr, stored his smokes and everything else on his person that was not a Beast Soul in his backpack, and then sent the backpack Beast Soul to his sea of soul as well.
He crouched down and then rocketed into the sky while cloaking himself, heading straight for Steel Armor Shelter.
After arriving in the skies overhead his destination, Max immediately landed and entered the 'Evolution Palace' inside the shelter.
A massive rectangular pond dominated the center of the temple-like Evolution Palace. Guarding its waters, four monstrous stone heads carved into the corners spat clear, mysterious fluid into the pool.
'Ah! Just like in the book! Man, I can't wait to try this out—this should double my raw physical stats... so sick! Hahaha!' Max thought to himself with a huge grin on his face.
After sending his tracksuit and high-tops into his sea of soul, Max hesitated for just a moment. He dipped a toe into the liquid to test it, finding the temperature perfectly pleasant. Satisfied, he stepped forward and slowly waded into the evolution pool, letting the lukewarm fluid envelop his body.
...
The 'God Seed' inside of you is reacting to a nearby power, allow genetic changes and spiritual upgrades to occur? Y/N?
...
The interface screen materialized before his eyes on its own suddenly, displaying the ominous warning that always preceded a profound, agonizing transformation heading into a Jump.
For half a decade in the sanctuary, Max had gorged himself on high-tier creature meat and life essences, yet his interface hadn't blinked. This sudden interface interference confirmed it: the liquid he was floating in was about to change his current state drastically.
"Yes!" Max gave his interface the go-ahead eagerly.
In the blink of an eye, the liquids' properties shifted entirely.
Max's mind flashed back to the text of Super God Gene, remembering how Han Sen had described his initial evolution as reverting back to a joyful embryo undergoing a miraculous rebirth.
To experience it firsthand was something else entirely.
Free from heat, cold, or harsh stimulation, the transformation was so natural it felt like an inherent part of his own biology. It was a spiritual and physical overhaul, expanding from his inner core outward—unlike the painful changes at the start of both Jumps he had been on thus far... Nice change!
He was actually enveloped in pure tranquility.
A wild strength suddenly flooded his muscles, bones, and veins, leaving him with the distinct impression that he could level a mountain range with one simple punch or kick. Max recognized the psychological illusion of rapid power growth, yet he couldn't help but marvel at the feeling of power he held at the moment.
Feeling lighter than air, Max felt like a divine being, freshly cleansed of all mortal sins.
'Evolution successful. Status of evolver gained. 100 years added to lifespan. Super body 'Twins of Fate' gained.'
The same voice that usually called out kills, and the Beast Souls they yielded, sounded off in Max's head.
"Twins of Fate, huh? Let's see if it is as good as Han Sen's 'King Spirit' super body..."
Max quickly noticed the Super God Gene sub-section of his interface had been updated.
