Chapter 418 - Chapter 408: Mega Gyarados vs. Mega Steelix

Chapter 408: Mega Gyarados vs. Mega Steelix

[Mega Gyarados] (4-Star) Gender: Female Level: 90 (Champion) Type: Water / Dark

Base Stats Total: 820 (HP: 122, Atk: 200, Def: 140, SpA: 90, SpD: 168, Spe: 100)

Abilities: Mold Breaker, Pressure Moves: Aqua Tail, Dragon Dance, Waterfall,

Outrage, Ice Fang, Scary Face, Crunch, Protect, Hyper Beam, Iron Tail... Items:

Radiant Bloodthirster, Radiant Edge of Night, Radiant Quicksilver Potential: S+

Upon Mega Evolving, Gyarados's primary Ability shifted to Mold Breaker.

It was a devastating combat trait. Mold Breaker allowed the user to ignore an

opponent's defensive Abilities during an attack. Defensive staples like Wonder

Guard or Sturdy—the very thing that had kept Mason's team alive in the first

half—were now completely bypassed. Against Mega Gyarados, there were no safety

nets.

However, losing its Intimidate Ability meant that while its "Conqueror's

Infusion" technique was still available, its raw debuffing power was slightly

lower than before.

Still, in terms of sheer raw stats and scale, the jump from base form to Mega

was monumental.

"Steelix!!! Use Stone Edge!!!"

"STEEL!!!! —"

Mega Steelix initiated the assault. With a deafening roar, dozens of razor-sharp

stone pillars materialized around its body. With a violent flick of its tail,

the massive projectiles shrieked through the air toward Mega Gyarados.

Normally, a Water/Flying type would have to be extremely cautious against a

high-tier Rock move. But in its Mega state, Gyarados was now Water/Dark. The

crushing type disadvantage was gone.

Furthermore, even though Steelix's Sand Force Ability was at peak efficiency,

Gyarados was now a Level 90 Champion. It was done playing defense.

"Gyarados!!! Surf!! —"

"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"

Mega Gyarados bellowed. In an instant, a towering wall of seawater erupted from

the arena floor, rising into a crashing tidal wave that acted as a physical

shield against the incoming Stone Edge.

BAM! BAM! BAM!!!! —

The kinetic force of the wave was so great that it shattered half of the stone

pillars upon contact, grinding them into pebbles.

Behind the curtain of water, the vents on Mega Gyarados's side-fins flared. It

ejected a massive burst of high-pressure water, using the recoil to launch

itself forward. Riding the very wave it had just created, it rocketed toward

Mega Steelix.

"Earth Power!!!"

Mega Steelix slammed its tail into the ground. A reinforced stone wall erupted

from the arena floor, standing like a dam in the path of the oncoming wave.

BANG!!!! —

The wave slammed into the wall. The stone groaned and the arena rattled, but the

barrier held firm.

KRA-KOOM!!!! —

But then, the water exploded. Mega Gyarados tore through its own wave, leading

with its massive, armored head. It smashed into the stone wall with enough force

to turn the reinforced rock into splinters.

Emerging from the debris, it whipped its tail around for an Aqua Tail strike.

Mason Chu's experience was vast. He hadn't expected a single wall to stop

a 4-Star monster. Mega Steelix had already prepared its counter—a fully charged

Iron Tail.

CLANG!!!!! —

Metallic tail met liquid-coated scales. The impact was like two mountain ranges

colliding.

Mega Steelix was pushed back several meters, its massive weight plowing a deep

trench into the arena floor. It skidded to a halt, but to the crowd's surprise,

it looked completely unharmed. It even let out a small, metallic chuff that

sounded like a smirk.

The trade had been even, but Gyarados's strike had failed to leave a dent. This

wasn't because the move was weak, but because Mega Steelix's physical Defense

was simply absurd. With a base stat of 230 in Defense—magnified by Mason's Elite

Four-tier training—it was likely the sturdiest biological entity in the Huaxia

League.

"Steelix!! Autotomize!!"

"STEEL!!!! —"

Mega Steelix began to vibrate, shedding a layer of its outer metallic skin. As

the excess weight fell away, the Pokémon's movements became noticeably sharper

and more fluid.

Autotomize: Sharply raises the user's Speed by shedding weight.

"Hydro Pump!!!! —"

"ROAAAARRRRR!!!!! —"

Mega Gyarados unhinged its jaws, unleashing a massive, high-pressure torrent of

water.

Despite the Speed boost, Mega Steelix's base agility was still bottom-tier. The

beam was too wide and too fast to outrun.

"Substitute!!! —"

POP!

The Hydro Pump struck home, instantly vaporizing the silhouette of the iron

snake. But the real Mega Steelix reappeared a few meters away, looking slightly

more exhausted but entirely unscarred.

"Rock Polish!!"

Mega Steelix didn't counterattack. It coiled its body, its scales grinding

together with a sound like a factory floor. Under the influence of its

Ground-type energy, the surface of its body became as smooth and polished as a

mirror.

Rock Polish: Sharply raises the user's Speed.

"Hydro Pump!!"

Kenji ordered a second blast. This time, Mason didn't use a decoy.

"Protect!!"

BOOM!!!! —

The water slammed into the emerald barrier. The shield held, but the force of

the blast was so great it nearly shoved the multi-ton snake across the arena.

"Rock Climb!!!"

"STEEL!!!! —"

Using the momentum of the reset, Mega Steelix launched itself. Despite its size,

it moved with a newfound, terrifying grace. It lunged at Mega Gyarados, its

movements echoing the way a serpent climbs a sheer cliff face.

"Aqua Tail!!!"

KRA-KOOM!!!! —

Mega Gyarados swung its tail downward.

But Mega Steelix was ready. The metallic debris circling its neck suddenly

converged, forming a localized "Iron Shield" just before impact.

SHATTER!!!!! —

The shield was pulverized by the Aqua Tail, but the sacrifice bought Mega

Steelix a split second. It twisted its head, dodging the worst of the downward

blow, and lashed out with a counter-Iron Tail aimed directly at Mega Gyarados's

skull.

BAM!!!! —

The hit connected. Mega Gyarados was knocked back, its massive head snapping to

the side from the kinetic force.

"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"

The blow had landed squarely on its forehead. Mega Gyarados, already on a

hair-trigger of rage, finally snapped. Its eyes turned a solid, glowing crimson

as it stared at the iron snake. It no longer wanted a battle.

It wanted to tear Mega Steelix into scrap metal.
