Chapter 409: Mega Steelix vs. Mega Gyarados! (Part 2)

This was the fundamental difference between a simulation and a true, high-level

Pokémon battle.

In the games, the outcome was dictated by base stats, IVs, and the calculated

efficiency of a move-set. It was a game of numbers and rigid rotations.

But in reality? A Pokémon fought with its entire biology.

Mega Steelix wasn't just a pile of stats; it was a master of electromagnetism.

It could manipulate the floating metallic debris around its neck to buy time for

a defense or launch a sudden, jagged offensive.

To the Steelix line, controlling metal through magnetism was an instinct as deep

as breathing. And Mason Chu's Ace had refined this instinct into a surgical art

form. It had integrated its biological quirks into its tactical repertoire,

creating a style that turned the usually slow, clunky Iron Snake into a

surprisingly deceptive and flexible combatant.

"Steelix!! Screech!!"

"Gyarados!! Counter with Roar!!"

Both behemoths opened their maws simultaneously, unleashing a wall of sound.

The high-pitched, grinding metallic wail of Screech collided mid-air with the

deep, guttural bass of Roar. The two sonic waves buckled against each other,

creating a localized pocket of distorted air that eventually neutralized into a

dull silence.

Having failed to lower Gyarados's defense, Mega Steelix didn't wait. It gathered

the orbiting metal shards into a focused mass and lunged forward, using the

debris as a lead-blocker.

Facing the charge, Mega Gyarados whipped its tail around for another Aqua Tail.

Mega Steelix predicted the arc perfectly. It shifted its magnetic focus, forming

a "Metal Shield" out of the shards to intercept the tail. While the water

hammered against the metal, Mega Steelix's head snaked around the flank,

unhinging its jaws as they crackled with electricity.

Thunder Fang!!

"Substitute!!"

POOF!!! —

Mega Gyarados triggered a decoy just in time. The jagged, electrified teeth

clamped shut on a mass of blue energy, which dissipated into mist. The real

serpent reappeared a safe distance away.

Mason Chu was playing a "dirty" game. He was kiting with a tank, refusing to

give Mega Gyarados a clean opening for a counter-strike, and immediately

retreating after every trade.

"Gyarados!! Use Flamethrower!!!"

"ROAAAARRRR!!!! —"

Although Gyarados was a Water-type, its move pool was vast. It had spent months

practicing its special attacks to ensure it could handle any matchup.

It opened its mouth and unleashed a roaring pillar of fire that lanced across

the field toward Mega Steelix.

The iron snake responded by forming another metal shield of floating shards.

The flames slammed into the shield. Under the intense, concentrated heat, the

metallic debris began to glow a dull, cherry red. Within seconds, the "Iron

Shield" looked like a mass of forged iron fresh from a blacksmith's furnace.

However, the fragments shed by a Steelix weren't ordinary steel. If they were,

the Flamethrower would have melted them into a puddle instantly.

These shards had been tempered for a century in the extreme pressure and

volcanic heat of the deep crust. Their melting point and structural integrity

were far beyond anything produced by human industry.

While the shield absorbed the fire, Mega Steelix whipped its tail, launching a

barrage of sharpened stones from the floor.

Rock Blast!!!

"Surf!!!! —"

Mega Gyarados didn't dodge. It slammed its tail into the standing water in the

arena, whipping up a massive wave that intercepted the stones, grinding them to

powder before they could reach it.

"Gyarados!!!!! Ice Beam!!!"

The moment the wave settled, Kenji ordered a follow-up. A jagged ray of

absolute-zero energy shot from Gyarados's maw, aimed directly at the red-hot

metal shield.

Mason Chu smirked. He didn't see the point. If fire couldn't break the shield,

how would ice? It was a waste of energy.

But as the Ice Beam struck the incandescent, glowing metal, the temperature of

the shards plummeted in a fraction of a second. The brilliant red faded

instantly to a dull gray as the metal was flash-cooled.

Thick plumes of white steam hissed off the shield, filling the center of the

arena.

Mason Chu had just finished setting up a Sandstorm. The grit began to swirl,

buffeting the field and boosting his partner's power. He smiled, ready to end

the match—but then he caught the look on Kenji's face.

Kenji wasn't looking at Mega Steelix. He was looking at the shield.

Fire... then Ice. Extreme heat... then absolute cold.

Suddenly, Mason's heart skipped a beat. A basic principle of materials science

flashed in his mind: Thermal Shock. Rapid, extreme temperature changes caused

most solids to become incredibly brittle.

And right then, Kenji issued the final command!

"GO!!! Gyarados!!! Maximum output! Conqueror's Infusion! Aqua Tail!!!!"

"ROAAAARRRRR!!!!! —"

The side-vents on Mega Gyarados's fins exploded with high-pressure water. The

recoil acted like a jet engine, launching the serpent forward. It moved so fast

it looked like a supersonic fighter jet skimming the water's surface.

It arrived in front of the shield in a heartbeat. Its tail, now coated in a

dense, pulsing shroud of pure aura, slammed down with the weight of a falling

mountain.

Mega Steelix instinctively reinforced the magnetic grip on its metal shield,

waiting for the impact so it could counter-strike as it had before.

KRA-KOOM!!!!!!!! —

CRACK!!!! —

A sharp, crystalline sound echoed through the entire facility. The massive,

water-drenched tail slammed into the flash-cooled metal shards.

This time, the shards didn't hold. They didn't absorb the force.

Under the combined weight of the Conqueror's Infusion and the structural

fragility caused by the thermal shock, the "indestructible" metal shield simply

disintegrated. It shattered into a billion tiny, jagged fragments that looked

like gray dust.

The barrier was gone.

Behind the pulverized remains of its defense, Mega Steelix stared in wide-eyed

horror at the massive tail that had just erased its shield without losing a

shred of momentum.

BAM!!!! —

The Aqua Tail struck Mega Steelix squarely in its flattened, metallic face.
